Game: D&D 5e (Exandria if possible) Group type: Online Experience: a few years (mainly listening to others play while watching Critical Role and reading the manuals. I have played a bit of earlier editions.) Location/Timezone: EST Schedule: Flexible Roles sought: DM Game style: Midcore, interested in exploring unique game concepts that may or may not involve adventuring.
The character's (an albino gnome wizard) main objective is to create a Compendium of Monsters. Basically the Monster Manuel in the game. I want to explore unique ways to interact with creatures to study them rather than the usual murder hobo route, although obviously combat needs to be a thing. I want a solo campaign because my time frame cannot be scheduled and I want to just let the game happen organically.
Here is my character background (it was originally written for Exandria, but I can adjust it no issue if we want to standard 5e):
Arkaia Eustus Crem was born to Eustus and Velba Crem in the 9th month of the year 804PD. They were a simple, middle class Gnomish family. Eustus made ends meet with his tinkering skills and Velba helped by taking seamstress work as she could while raising their only son, Arkaia. The pair had moved to Ank’Harel from Kraghammer five years prior.
Arkaia was different from other Gnomish children. His skin was very pale, his hair white from birth, and his eyes were a piercing magenta. He had a very difficult time fitting in and was often teased by the other children. At age 7 his magical talents manifested in an incident which ostracized him even further.
The children were being particularly unkind one day, calling him names and laughing at him. Then, an older, larger human child threw a rock at him. The rock struck Arkaia in the head, causing him to bleed. He wailed and fell to the ground, clutching his bleeding head. For some reason, this caused the other children to pounce on him. Hitting him with sticks, kicking him, spitting on him. It was awful.
Arkaia feared he would die and in desperation threw his arms out screaming, “STOP!!!!” A thunderclap and concussive force sent children flying in every direction. Many were seriously injured and the boy who had thrown the rock broke his neck and died. The sound was heard by everyone nearby and when the guards and other people arrived on the scene they found broken and bleeding children all over the place and one lone, albino Gnome at the center.
The authorities ruled it to be self-defense, but his family’s reputation was severely tarnished. His father’s wares were high quality and so his business did not falter much, but they were ostracized from the community.
One evening a few months later, Arkaia couldn’t sleep. He crawled out of bed, intending to go to the kitchen for a drink of water when he heard the voices of his parents in a serious discussion. He crept to the doorway and listened.
“What are we going to do about Arkaia Eustus?” his mother worried. “He’s so alone and I fear for his future.”
Eustus replied, “We haven’t seen anyone of his magical ability in our family since great, great Uncle Emeril. He was an albino too as I understand it and very eccentric. Quite the loner, always pouring over tomes about the creatures of Exandria, seemingly obsessed with learning every detail about them. He was so eccentric the family in Kraghammer even distanced themselves from him.”
“Regardless, Arkaia needs to learn to control his abilities and we have to send him to the Crystal Chateau as soon as he is old enough.”
“I know you’re right dear, but I don’t like the idea of sending him away to live with strangers,” his mother said, on the verge of tears. The conversation continued, but Arkaia barely heard it. He made his way back to his room, fixated on what he had heard regarding great, great Uncle Emeril. This ancestor sounded just like him and he vowed to seek him out one day.
He entered the Crystal Chateau at age 14. Magical training was a 10-year process and he was only allowed to visit his family once a year. It was very clear half-way through the program that Arkaia had a knack for the Arcane and he was placed on the path to becoming a Wizard. It was a relatively uneventful 10 years. He was dutiful in his studies and kept to himself most of the time. He was not an exceptionally talented Wizard, but definitely above average.
Upon graduation, he returned home to visit his family.
