Game: D&D 5e, Ghosts of Saltmarsh Group type: Online Experience: Veteran Roleplayer, a few years DnD experience, New to DMing Location/Timezone: EST (GMT -5) Schedule:
Now until August 30th: Application Period
08/30 - 09/05: Applicants chosen and added to Discord Server. Character Creation/Brainstorming
Every Friday we will meet at the time we as a group have agreed upon. We will play sessions of either 2 or 4 hours depending on preference, with a 10 or 20 minute break respectively. The game will last until the adventure(s) I have planned complete or 09/27, whichever comes first. See below for more details. I am available anywhere from 6:30pm-2am EST.
Roles sought: Players (3-5) Game style: Semi-Casual, meaning some OOC chatter, coming up with plans, and jokes are great, but we will be spending the majority of our time adventuring. Consistent, meaning I need you to plan and commit to these Fridays at the times you agree upon. More details on that below. Roleplaying is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED but not necessary, especially if you are a newbie.
THE SINISTER SECRET OF SALTMARSH
Four miles east of Saltmarsh, just inland of the old coast road, stands a haunted house. Until twenty years ago, it had been the residence of an aged alchemist of sinister reputation. Even then, locals avoided the house because of its owner's mysterious activities. Now, two decades after the unexplained disappearance of its occupant, the house has taken on an even greater air of evil and mystery. Dilapidated and long abandoned, the house presents an unwholesome appearance. Those hardy souls who have infrequently sought entry (pursuing rumors of a secret hoard of alchemical gold) all returned with naught save grim tales of decaying chambers presided over by monstrous perils. Indeed, such is the reputation of the house that the fields around it, though ripe agricultural land, remain untended and rank with weeds.
My rules are short and simple:
- Respect one another as players. In Character (IC) ≠ Out of Character (OOC). While our characters may have flaws that mean friction among the party, we as players must remember that we are all here to have fun as a group. Discrimination of any kind, be it on the basis of age, gender, sexual orientation, or anything else in OOC chatter will not be tolerated. No discussion of real world politics, religion, or the shape of the Earth; we have fantasy debates to be spending our time on.
- That being said, 'evil' or morally grey characters ARE allowed. However, those types of characters must be able to cooperate with a group... at least until the adventure is wrapped up...
- No meta-gaming or spoilers. Some people may be newbies and we want them to have the thrill of discovery should some classic DnD monsters or items crop up.
- You must show up to every session on time. Emergencies, sickness, and traffic happens. If you have to miss a session, that is fine. In such cases your character will be put on auto-pilot by the DM or a fellow party member (your preference) while the group progresses. However, if you are late (15+ min) without prior notice or absent more than once, you will be removed. This is a short campaign and everyone's time is valuable.
Character Creation:
Ghosts of Saltmarsh is interesting in that it's suggested you make a character from Saltmarsh or the surrounding/involved areas. There are also 'Background' options exclusive to the module and suggestions for adapting the usual ones to Saltmarsh itself. I will share this info with my players during the week-long character creation stage. As far as race and class options go, I am going to be using the Adventurers League rules.
Experience: (No experience necessary, just curious!)
Availability: (Which times are you available and what is your preference for session length?)
Role Interested In: (Tank, Healing, DPS, Support, etc. You do not have to have a firm idea in mind and can pick multiple.)
What about DnD interests you?
Players will be selected by combo of availability, desired role, and responsiveness to the questionnaire. Ultimately I would like a group willing to take the same time span per session and one whose roles will compliment one another. So if you see more than 6 applicants in the thread, don't be shy to throw in your lot! Any questions, feel free to drop them below!
Experience: I played 2e once a while back, but I'm trying to get back into it. I know the basics, but some 5e stuff is going to require some learning.
Availability: 7p-3a, Fridays
Role Interested In: Support or DPS, most likely a Rogue
What about DnD interests you? I really liked it the first time I played, but I never had time to get really into it. Now that I have some time, I can participate more.
(I sent this already but I though you might prefer a post in the thread)
Player Name/Handle:
Andy/Dictator4Life
Experience: (No experience necessary, just curious!)
I am fairly new to D&D and most of my time has been spent DMing. My experience as a player consists of several sessions of first edition AD&D and one session of 5e. As for Dming I've run a short game for some of my friends and I am currently running a play by post game (both 5e).
Availability: (Which times are you available and what is your preference for session length?)
I am available all day on Saturday and on any other day after 4:00 pm EST as long as it is agreed upon in the week before. I prefer a longer session.
Role Interested In: (Tank, Healing, DPS, Support, etc. You do not have to have a firm idea in mind and can pick multiple.)
DPS/support. I'm probably going to play a wizard
What about DnD interests you?
I'm interested in participation in creating an interesting story and imagining myself in my characters' shoes
Experience: (No experience necessary, just curious!) I've have a bit of experience with D&D (about a year) and have a good understanding of the rules as written.
Availability: (Which times are you available and what is your preference for session length?) I live in Australia and the time (6:30pm GMT -5) works pretty well for me!
Role Interested In: (Tank, Healing, DPS, Support, etc. You do not have to have a firm idea in mind and can pick multiple.)Tank/Healing! Cleric for the win! Although a paladin might be interesting.
What about DnD interests you? I like creating characters and having character arcs! Solving puzzles also interests me.
Player Name/Handle: Dave/GreyDragon2570 (#2375 on Discord)
Experience: (No experience necessary, just curious!) Played Basic, Expert and some AD&D many years ago. I have played 5-6 sessions of 5e within the past year, but can still be considered a newbie.
Availability: (Which times are you available and what is your preference for session length?) I'm available after 6:30 PM EST on weeknights and available on weekends after 9AM. I'm fine with 2-4 hours sessions.
Role Interested In: (Tank, Healing, DPS, Support, etc. You do not have to have a firm idea in mind and can pick multiple.) Tank or DPS
What about DnD interests you? Going on an adventure with like minded people and not knowing what's lurking around the next corner or in the room.
Experience: Played much in the 80' 90 and early 00's, 2nd edition. Played roll 20 when it first came out with the same group of guys I played with during all those years. I miss the game and would love to play again.
Availability: (Which times are you available and what is your preference for session length?) I probably wont be very available at all in Sept since my high school son is a college prospect and I have a bunch of colleges to take him to go see in Sept. I see myself driving alot on Friday nights and hoping on planes. I would love to be able to log in though on my time and watch and get to know you or the group for future events, if that sounds cool to you.
Role Interested In: (Tank, Healing, DPS, Support, etc. You do not have to have a firm idea in mind and can pick multiple.) I've always enjoyed the rogue class or cleric.
What about DnD interests you? Fantasy at its best!

What about DnD interests you? Fantasy at its best!
Just to be clear, you'd be privy to spoilers for the first two Saltmarsh campaigns (lvls 1-3) if you were to be given access to our group discord. Is that alright with you? Or would you rather just be in contact with me/on the short-list for a similar run in the future?
Experience: (No experience necessary, just curious!) Total newbie, played a one shot with randomized characters at a camp (as a finisher to a class on how to play Tabletop RPGs) but never played a real game.
Availability: (Which times are you available and what is your preference for session length?) For FridaysI'm down for anything after4pm EST, but would mostly prefer after 8 or 9pm EST, i am okay with any length from 2-4 hours, I'm a night shifter and am used to being up at that time, and have Fridays off.
Role Interested In: (Tank, Healing, DPS, Support, etc. You do not have to have a firm idea in mind and can pick multiple.) Probably DPS? I'm not entirely sure on the roles part yet, but would likely like to play a rogue type character.
What about DnD interests you? The stories, the interactions between players, and I love Fantasy settings.
Experience: (No experience necessary, just curious!) i've only actually played for about three sessions before our dm left, and am currently dming a group of newbies. so, not much.
Availability: (Which times are you available and what is your preference for session length?) im available pretty much any time other than saturday 2pm-4pm MST. im fine with either two or four hours, whatever's preferable to the party is fine.
Role Interested In: (Tank, Healing, DPS, Support, etc. You do not have to have a firm idea in mind and can pick multiple.) im not positive but i would prefer to play a warlock or druid.
What about DnD interests you? the fantasy elements and exploration of it really interest me. also, how the plot can be so intriguing and interchangable depending on the campaign.
Experience: Played mostly edition 3.5 but was still quite newbie at it. I've been doing A LOT of research to do 5th Edition and get it right. and I play all sorts of RPGs (mostly video games.).
Availability: Open to almost any time and/or any day but saturday, and the beginning 3 days of the month.
Role Interested In: DPS/ (Warlock)
What about DnD interests you? The story-telling and the legend of the original grandad of RPGs.
Player Name/Handle: Jazzy Clark
Experience: New to D&D as a whole but learning from my husband.
Availability: Same as my husband.
Role Interested In: DPS/Support (Sorcerer)
What about DnD interests you? I get to be in a story and play as MY character, to make HIS/HER story.
Experience: (No experience necessary, just curious!) I have years of general roleplaying experience but just recently started to delve into D&D. I've got a few months worth of experience with 5e.
Availability: (Which times are you available and what is your preference for session length?)I would be available from 5pm-2am (EST) on Fridays and would prefer 4 hour sessions.
Role Interested In: (Tank, Healing, DPS, Support, etc. You do not have to have a firm idea in mind and can pick multiple.) Tank or Healer
What about DnD interests you? I like character creation and I love the roleplaying aspect. I really enjoy improving character interactions and developing characters as stories progress. I like getting sucked into the story.
Experience: Started playing dnd at the age of 6 back in 1989/1990 with my brother and a group of 3 brothers who were friends of ours. DM was 12 or 13. Played on and off since. Roll20 w/discord last three years, but I also have a local group I do Call of Cthulhu and some DND with (not so much lately though)
Availability: I live in Norway, but Friday evenings I usually stay up late, and would like to spend the evening/night playing DND ;) I am however 7 hours ahead of you, so I guess I'd have to set a limit at 4am my time(gmt+2), 9pm (gmt-5).
Role Interested In: I suppose I prefer dps/tank, but lately experimented with spellcasters and found that to be enjoyable :) Ideas so far are a fighter (part of the city watch, or used to be at least), or maybe a traveling knight, or knight errant just starting out from the Saltmarsh area (Could be paladin or fighter), a wind witch (some kind of wizard dedicated to control over wind and waters to support the local fishermen), hexblade warlock ('cause they seem to be awesome, haven't played one yet), or a barbarian of the ancestral guardians path.
What about DnD interests you? I enjoy the storytelling and visualizing everything. I also enjoy the banter with the mix of seriousness and hilarious situations that arise.
Everyone who will be joining this campaign has been messaged! If you did not get a message, please do not be discouraged. Players were selected by similar availability, experience, desired roles, and the amount of information provided in their responses.
I would be happy to consider everyone who applied as priority players in a future campaign or as back-up players if someone should drop out during this campaign! Please let me know if you would like either.
I appreciate everyone for their consideration and time.
