INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND Heyo I've been running a "tutorial" modified phandelver campaign (transitioning into a modified curse of strahd campaign) for a bunch of new players, but recently we just lost a couple players due to scheduling issues, so I'm looking for 3-4 players with level 5 characters to replace them.
TIME SLOT Ideally we can keep the same timeslot we had, which is 8PM-MIdnight CST Tuesdays (that's 9pm-1am EST; 6pm-10pm PST), but I'm free every evening around the same time, except Mondays, and my 2-3 players might be flexible too.
MEDIUM Online, over a Discord voice call, using Roll20 for maps, and D&DB and the Beyond20 browser extension for character sheets.
CONTACT My discord ID is zionswasd feel free to add me and just tell me you're from D&DB.
ABOUT ME I've got almost a decade of on-off experience DMing, I LOVE crafting characters/stories/worlds, I'm very passionate about writing, and as a DM I try to put in the prep-work moreso than most DMs I've played under so as to make it a neat experience (although sometimes I get lazy but I'm good enough at improv to make up for it usually lol).
I get a lot of joy out of teaching new players about D&D/TTRPG's, and I dislike dealing with routine-metagamers, extreme minmaxxers/powergamers, murderhobos, and rules-lawyers; I don't mind and can have fun with players building pretty powerful characters or acting goofy as hell or psychotic or violent... to the extent that it makes sense and isn't disruptive overshadowing to others, and to the extent that it doesn't pull me out of the game.
If you're familiar with the common "player types", I prefer the storytellers (drama/plot lovers), actors (character roleplay lovers), casual/audience members (just there to vibe and have fun), specialists (single extreme character lovers), and tacticians (group-efficiency maximizers).
I'm usually character-homebrew friendly, and use a few homebrew rules of my own, and I try to generally keep it rules-lite for the most part, sure I know pm all the rules but I mainly follow the rule of cool to maximize the story themes/characterization over all else, and will make rulings on the fly as it suits that purpose, bc I prefer not to spend the valuable game time arguing over/looking up rules.
And I generally prefer to keep it lighthearted overall personally, I don't get along with people who take themselves or the world so deadly-seriously or who can't take a chill pill, I have enough stress and craziness of my own to last a lifetime, D&D is my escapist vacation.
THE CAMPAIGN The present "tutorial zone" campaign is a modified version of the Phandelver campaign, made to be a sort of proving ground/gauntlet to test the party's mettle; but since it's mostly over except for the final dungeon; once it's through, we're going to transition straight into a modified Curse of Strahd campaign afterwards.
The Curse of Strahd campaign is going to be a survival-horror/action-horror/gothic-horror/cosmic-horror/dark fantasy with an evil vampire lord as the main villain —think Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Berserk, Darkest Dungeon, Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry, or Castlevania— it can get a bit dark (but nothing too extreme), and in shooting for a medium-fantasy "Nobledark" setting (basically a mostly grim and dark world, but with a few points of light and honor remaining here and there), while I prioritize highlighting the party characters' stories and their heroism; it can get pretty brutal, grueling, and down to the wire in a souls-like fashion, especially in boss fights, so make sure you can take a punch in stride, and know that while I can be brutal (possibly a little sadistic lol) as a DM, I am still on your side in telling a cool/fun story together!
It's gonna go from level 5 to level 10, maybe 12 depending on how much you explore; and I'm gonna try to finish it ideally by the end of 2024 or early 2025.
FYI presently we have a Kitsune Divine Soul Sorcerer, an Owlin Drunken Master Monk, an Aasimar Ancients Paladin, and a Silver Dragonborn Life Cleric; but again don't worry about the party comp too hard when thinking of characters bc I can balance towards any mixture.
I do usually try to integrate player character backstories into the campaign, so once I give you a vibe check and add you to the party proper I'm gonna give you a decent bit of homework to come up with at least a basic backstory, but I have a framework of questions that should help make it easy, it doesn't have to be that much.
Hello! I'm very interested in joining this campaign! The time slot is perfect! I am a player who absolutely loves weaving stories and interacting with others to create a collaborative adventure! My Discord is pretty_chill_brain_freeze
I do want to note that my Discord won't allow me to communicate unless I friend you first. I don't know how to turn this off, so if you see my user trying to friend you know that I'm here for the campaign ✨️
I am very interested since I have been waiting for an open slot for a Curse of Strahd campaign for a little while now and I have 2 characters that would be great for this campaign, (one mechanic wise and the other back-story wise) and the time slot works great, I just need to ask if it’s a week day or week-end thing. We can discuss more in DMs. This is my Discord: Soldier_Gaming.
Hello, interested as well. Time slot works for me. I have been out of playing for over 20 years, so would say I am new, though a lot of experience previously. New to 5e and online so hopefully looking for a helpful group as I get used to the systems and online play as well as 5e rules.
Have a lot of ideas of characters, and like to work the backstory into it as well. my discord is TexasTroop and I can share thoughts and ideas as well as some Characters on D&DB
Hello. I am interested in playing these campaigns, especially Strahd. I played about 15 years ago, edition 3.5, but I have played several 5.0 sessions. I'm glad to find a game who are also mature players/DM. The timeslot is very convenient for me, and I do consistently attend game sessions. My discord is brothercrazyfists748 if you want to contact me there. I have a Bard available for the game, but contact me and we can talk what the party needs. See Ya.

I'm interested and can work with the time slot. I have 10+ years experience, if a bit dated, and am new to online play.
