Here are some of the review I've received.
********************************* Newer player to the game but BlackStrum really does a good job!!! playing in his curse of strahd now. I have played in a few others and he really takes the time to set the game up right compared to other gms. Worth the 7$ a game...

Not able to get enough D&D playtime with my live group, I decided to give online games a shot and began looking on Roll20 for a group to join. Came across a listing for a Lost Mine game that was only a few sessions in and looking for players. Have had nothing but positive games with BlackStrum since then. He incorporates many tools that add to the gameplay such as API's, DMs Guild materials that fit within the stories, and a few home rules that add to the game nicely like crit success/fail roll tables and having neg health when you go down to make healing a bit higher priority.
At $7 per session it is more than worth the money for the entertainment that you get out of your sessions. When new players are needed, he includes the entire group to the decision, which helps to make sure people that are added will fit within the group without any conflicts. The Lost Mine campaign has now moved on to Storm Kings Thunder and shortly after beginning to play with BlackStrum, I recommended him to my teenage son and we both joined a Curse of Strahd campaign that is still going as well.

Well what can be said about this DM.
I have had the privilege of being part of his table games. Blackstrum will always be a hero to me, because he pulled me away from a toxic table with a horrible, sexist, racist bigoted DM. (Sometimes no games is better than bad games.)
I was so lucky to be introduced to him. After one single game I knew this is the table I needed to join.
You will experience a DM that will take your backstory and intricalty weave it into the main story, while at the same time stitching well with the other characters back story. He creates situations and opportunities for these amazing moments to shine (or fail) for everyone. You will leave with a handful of epic stories to tell, be they acts of heroism or epic fails. He is fair but will not hold your hand. You can die in his games if you play carelessly, but he will not take any pleasure from this.
He also recognizes problem players or a potential toxic situation and nips it. No one will feel uncomfortable at his games.
He is the best DM to have as a beginner for he teaches the basics in a practical manner and generally makes better players. His stories captivate, and will leave you going to bed and actully thinking about it. He will encourage Roleplay so well that you look forward to his roleplaying texts in between games .
Prepare for adventure with this DM! *********************************
Possibly the best DM I've had the pleasure of playing with in my whole life. I'm also a novice DM as of recently, so I know it is a hard job that no one can do perfectly.
I could say a lot of good things about him, but my favorite thing about his DMing is that he keeps things moving, whether it be in combat, roleplay, exploration, etc, he keeps things interesting and keeps players on their toes.
He also clearly strives to run a fair and balanced game, which I think is impossible but always a goal. There will always be overpowered builds, sneaky or ignorant players, and honest mistakes.
And like any good DM he takes pleasure in putting player characters in difficult situations or on the brink of death but is even happier to see them overcome those challenges. *********************************
I really got lucky with this DM finding me in the forums of Roll20. I didn't know what to expect. I was new to virtual tabletops and getting back into D&D since 3.5. I got everything I could want out of a game and then some. I've been a player in his game for over a year now.
He's very knowledgeable about how Roll20 works. Anytime anyone has a question about the interface, he can explain or do it for you. I was avoiding casting a Chaos Bolt because I didn't know how to make it work. I told him this in game and seconds later made it just as easy as clicking on that spell.
As for running a game, he's amazing. I can't tell when the adventure module begins and the home brew ends. I know I've thrown him a few curve balls and he made quick sensible rulings. "I want to jump into this huge creatures back to distract him from my friends while stabbing him in the back with my dagger." "I want to trip this huge creatures using some rope by tieing it to a tree and making an improvised trip line." "I elbow drop the Redbrand Ruffian who is wrestling with our fighter on the floor." All these would've tripped me up as a novice DM but not this guy. I aspire to be able to run a game like he does.
I like how he encourages role playing but won't push you if you don't want to. I like how he role plays his NPCs. I like how he presents a problem and let's the players figure it out and rolls with it no matter how ludicrous the solution is. I asked him to work my backstory into the game and he did. Well... the party didn't explore it because we had more pressing matters at hand. I do believe he prepped the adventure though. I appreciated that.
I wish I had some actual critiques but I honestly can't think of any. Maybe I didn't agree with a ruling once.
I could go on and on but i should end it. If you have the opportunity to play with BlackStrum, take it.
*********************************
While playing in his games I've never had a moment where he was caught flatfooted (or at least when he let it show!). He puts in the prep, and legitimately loves the game and his players.
He's very responsive, and if you run roleplay or mechanical ideas by him he'll give you a straightforward yes (I've gotten almost all yes's!) or no which I appreciate.
He likes to challenge players, leaves different methods to solve problems, and is flexible when the PCs go a route that he didn't expect.
He's always adding a new elements to the game whether it be through ancestral weapons or great backstory moments.
To summarize I highly recommend, BlackStrum. If you feel like your life is short about three bloodthirsty manticores and your grandfather's greatsword, he'll fix ya up.
