I'd love to DM, I have no problem telling the story and setting the scene, but knowing how to create and scale encounters is where I have problems. What can what 'monsters' do and when. So it's how to run combat that baffles me. I can't find a resource to help me decide that.
Case in point, the very first combat I ran, I had 3 goblins for a single level 3 bard. In his first turn he decided he was going to cast Shatter and from what we both understood... he killed all three goblins in that single move. Poof! Done! It gets funnier the more I think about it, but in the moment, it was pretty demoralizing.
So, it's DM lessons I'm looking for. If anyone has an online resource that can provide that service, or if you make online resources and haven't thought to cover that topic, please help a blossoming DM in need. I promise I'll continue the tradition and forward my new found skills to others.

All the best!
