I am delighted to inform you that you have been accepted into Strixhaven University. We are thrilled to welcome you to the Strixhaven Community, and look forward to the unique and extraordinary contributions we know you will make.
Your first year here at Strixhaven, you will attend courses of general studies, laying the foundation for more specialized work to follow, along with courses of your aspiring college. During this year, you will wear a uniform of black, white, and gray, which will soon be provided.
Orientation Day will be held in the Biblioplex's Hall of Oracles, which will set off your first year here on campus and introduce you to the vibrant and dynamic campus life that defines Strixhaven.
More information is provided to you in your acceptance package. I once again extend my congratulations to your admission to Strixhaven and welcome you to the Strixhaven family.
Hey everyone! I am currently looking for 3-4 players to join a long-term campaign set in Strixhaven. This will NOT be a 1-1 of the book, and will be about attending Strixhaven as a whole.
About the DM - Me!
I am 21 years old, and have been DM-ing for 7 years now and I love every bit of it. I have been a player in a few one-shots and joined in one of my player's campaigns, but I found myself not enjoying it as much as when I DM.
I love the story-telling aspect of D&D - as such, my DM-ing style reflects that. I use soundtracks and ambiance to set the scene, and make sure to describe in detail what your characters see/hear/smell etc, and definitely have an emphasis on role-playing.
Here are some things you can expect from me as a DM!
Handmade maps! - I will use some maps provided by the book or other creators, but the majority of maps will be made by myself
Music and Sounds! - As I said above, I will use a variety of things to help evoke emotions and paint a picture for you
Backstory elements! - Incorporating character's backstories is always a blast, and I will carefully entwine your backstories with your life at school!
Rule of Cool-ish! - I care more about the story than getting bogged down by mechanics. Not saying I stray from RAW often, but I definitely have no problem doing so
The Campaign
Strixhaven is a wonderful and vast magic school, with many types of students enrolled in it. As such, you will have the opportunity to meet and form friendships (or make enemies) with tons of different students and teachers.
This campaign will also be very role-play heavy - exploring the jobs and extracurriculars available to you, participating in school events, relationships with your peers, and advancing your academic career. Here are some things that may excite (or bother) you:
Making a legitimate schedule for your character
Role-playing moments at a class, job, or extracurricular
Sandbox-y world
Actual quizzes
We will begin at level 1 and end somewhere between 12-15 using milestone leveling. Characters and rolls will be made on D&D Beyond (I will share my books with you), with rolls being made using the Beyond20 extension. We will use FoundryVTT (no money on your part) to play on and Discord to communicate. I tend to run a mixture of "theater of the mind" by using images or backdrops for basic scenes, but switch to battlemaps when it comes to combat or more important events.
Every session will be held Thursdays at 8PM CDT. I aim for 3 hours each session, but will go shorter or longer if the situation calls for it. Again, this campaign will be long-term, so please make sure you will be able to attend the majority of sessions held at this time for up to a year.
About the player - you!
I've only had 1 problem player in my 7 years of DM-ing, so while I'm not worried at all, I do have some requirements to apply.
18 - 30 years old - Age isn't really a huge bother to me, but for the sake of everyone involved I think it's best we are all around similar age range
LGBT+ friendly/Respectful - Goes without saying I imagine
Willing to engage - As this is a sandbox-style campaign, I will need players that pay attention and engage in the world around them
Active outside the campaign - I don't want to just have players that show up and play D&D, I want a group that will form a bond together and play games outside of D&D as well
Mature - This campaign will mainly be happy and exciting, but there will be some dark moments that are serious and grim. Think Harry Potter!
Conclusion
If you've made it this far, thank you so much! Attached below is an application form for you to apply with. Please take your time and answer each question correctly, as I will ignore those that aren't. Private messages will also be ignored. I will leave the form open for 24 hours and then I will start going through the applicants. If I am interested in you, I will reach out to you on Discord to conduct a short interview. Thanks again, and good luck!
