Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online – Discord, Skype, or Roll20 Experience: New – about 5 months Location/Timezone: Huddersfield, UK / GMT+1 Availability: Wednesday to Friday and Sunday from 5pm to 1am Preferred role: Player Game style: Roleplay.
I have a character concept I am eager to use in a medium- to long-term campaign. The character is a dwarf sorcerer who is add odds with their new-found magical abilities. They trained as a soldier, and at first glance might be mistaken for a fighter or a paladin. As the character grows, they will start using magic as a power that surpasses their previous military training. I imagine it being a drawn-out process. As such, I'd like a game environment that will pressure the characters to make tough choices, mistrust their surroundings, and make horrible mistakes.
I am currently a DM in two on-going campaigns and a weekly series of one-shot encounters. I like to design adventures that reward different skill sets. I like to work around DPS, race and class archetypes, and unnecessary combat.
What I like in D&D: I enjoy story, both in terms of what the DM has planned and how the players approach the world. I especially like it when the players do things I don't expect, or inadvertently push me to adapt the narrative. As a player, I like dilemmas, opportunities to try different skills, and interaction with the party. In dungeon crawls.
What I don't like: min/maxing; metagame thinking; pre-set spell lists (magic missile, shield and mage armor until level 3 for all wizards); “A monster appears out of nowhere. You fight it to death”; repeated use of a small number of skills (you find a locked door, then another locked door, then a locked chest, then a locked window).
I realise I'm being very picky. Even though I'm still new to D&D, I've played enough to know what style of game I don't enjoy. If I'm not going to enjoy showing up to a game regularly, it's no good to anyone for me to take part in the first place.
I would very much like to have a chat with anyone who thinks I'd be a good fit for their game.
Thanks for reading!
