Group preferred: Online for now, ideal would be face to face when the world isn't falling apart Experience: New Veteran. Played extensively 20 years ago during AD&D 2nd Ed. Just started again in 5e. Old dog, new tricks. Location/Timezone: Central Time (GMT -6). Preferably +/- 2 hour time zone, but flexible. Half of my real-life coworkers are all over the world, so I can manage Availability: Weeknights (7pm - 11pm CST) and mostly anytime on weekends Preferred role: Player Game style: Somewhat casual balance of combat and roleplay. I enjoy the strategy of the fight, but also the thoughtfulness of roleplaying out the situation. Not a fan of counting the details of experience points for leveling up, but rather the DM's judgement as to de facto leveling up. I tend to dislike power-gaming where everyone and the rat mouse familiar has a vorpal blade after the first adventure.
I am in the Austin area and tend to favor a group in central Texas for whenever the world is less insane we could play in-person, but I am 100% comfortable with virtual gaming and having been doing that for the past few months. In real life, back when it was a thing, I've traveled all over the US and world am totally cool with playing with folks from wherever, and chances I'll probably be traveling close to you sometime soon. I enjoy playing with experienced players as well as total newbies. I think that's kinda cool for a group balance.
My primary experience has been in 'classic' D&D settings - Forgotten Realms, Dark Sun, Ravenloft, etc - and way back when I also played Vampire The Masquerade, Werewolf, Cyberpunk, and other stuff I don't remember. My preference is probably Forgotten Realms, but so long as the group is good to go I really don't care. Homebrew works just as well.
I've been working on a gnome bard that I would call more old-school versus romantic. Not so much about the charisma, but rather the shenanigans of wheeling and dealing knowledge, favors, trinkets, and supporting the group as opposed to being a charismatic street musician. But I'm totally flexible in rolling a new character to fit the group needs.
i am currently interviewing for a game i am running on wed eves a Horror themed FR campaign( not the Rime of the Frostmaiden although i may steal good bits from it when it releases) for my longstanding group (18+ yrs and running) we used to do exclusively FtoF sessions but a member moved to TX and that mucked things a bit two of us are in (NC EST) and two in TX(CST) we are a rp intensive narrative and character development(we dont stifle in downtime activities but we do make well rounded 3 d characters) based group with cbt scattered in and have a pretty fixed Wed night game going from 9 cst to 12 or 1 thereabouts we use zoom for face to face and mc for sound soundtrack and D&D beyond characters i also employ dungeondraft and Encounter+ for encounters and maps i too only recently broke into the internet gaming world preferring Fto F and the intimacy of a in house group but covid and the times have changed that so ...i am a dinosaur adapting to the new tech world I usually interview prospective new players and if we get on then we pow wow a character concept and backstory to pre gen into the party s current level(approx 7th atm) to get some prerspective magic items found before joining this party and add some depth to it before dropping you in.
