Game: D&D 5e. Characters to be based on PHB rules. Adventures to take place in a homebrew but traditional medieval fantasy setting, not Forgotten Realms.
Mode preferred: Looking to recruit 4-6 players who can get together every few weeks or so. Face-to-face is my preferred method, but on-line seems like the only realistic option once we consider player availability and quarantine restrictions. So I’ll probably use Roll20.
Experience: I am a veteran, but new players are definitely welcome. Age is not really a factor, but maturity and a certain level of “seriousness” are. (See what I mean below under “game style.”)
Location/Timezone: I am in the Pacific Time Zone (southern California), but you don’t have to be.
Tentative Schedule: My ideal would be to run games on Saturday or Sunday mornings, 3-4 hour sessions, but NOT EVERY WEEKEND. I am a family man with a career, and it takes time to properly prepare a good session. Therefore about every 3 weeks, give or take, is the sweet spot for me. Ideally we would shoot for every 3rd week, but obviously communicate and coordinate our session-to-session availability.
Game style: D&D is a cooperative game. You may play a character who is somewhat obnoxious or even a little self-serving if you like, but PCs should not be actively sabotaging each other or the quest. I also want my players to take the game “seriously.” What I mean by this is that the players have some investment in the internal integrity of the fantasy story, game world, and character development. Joking at the table and with each other is welcome and encouraged—out of character. The characters themselves, however, are serious people in a dangerous world, and the “4th wall” should not be broken. (Bards should not know about Beatles songs, and there will be no Dark Tower-esque “workarounds.” Gross!) I appreciate players who put some love into their characters’ backstory and personality. I do not need “voices” (I don’t do voices myself), but if that’s your personal jam, then you do you. I try to balance combat with exploration, problem-solving, and world-building. I also employ a detailed system of living house rules, in order to address issues that I feel are inadequately handled in the 5e rules as written. However, my rules are designed in the interest of game-flow and player enjoyment, not simply draconian rulings to make life miserable for PCs. I believe a DM is a fun-facilitator, not an opponent.
If all of this sounds like the kind of game you want to play, please get in touch. You can PM me here or on Discord: Geoff#3380.
Hello. I've been playing D&D regularly for about two months now with a group of friends/friend-of-friends and most of us are rather inexperienced. I've been itching to play a little more frequently, however, and I've been scouring the net for just such a proposal like yours. You said Saturdays and Sundays in the morning work for you. I understand if you intend to lean towards Saturday, but due to strict work constraints, Sunday is the sweet spot for me. Please let me know what you think about what I've said thus far. Thank you for your time.
I forgot to say, I live in the South-Eastern US, Central-time.
@Sandy That sounds good so far. Saturday and Sunday are about equal for me; just depends on what’s going on with kids, and some Sundays are out because I’m in another party with some old friends, and we play about monthly. Are you “KuzcisPoison” on Discord?
