I’m Completely New To This. Someone Help, Please!

I am new to D&D, but it seems so fun from everything I've heard about it! None of my friends or family members play it or know it, so I have been wandering blind. Can someone help me out? I wanna get started in a game and go on an adventure but I'm not sure how to! I just get confused looking at numbers, statics and stuff. I'm more of a word person anyway. If anyone can help me out and/or get me set up with a group or something, please do, I'll be very greatful!!

I prefer to do a roleplay style and I just love character development. I prefer to do things online and such. I am in the Central Daylight Timezone, incase anyone was wondering or something??
