Hello! I am rather new to DnD but I'm picking it up pretty quickly. I have noticed that there is a lot of need for DMs and this is something I'd definitely be interested in doing. However, being new to the game I don't feel like I have enough experience to offer my services as a DM. So I was wondering if I could sort of mentor with an experienced Dm, who I could ask questions of etc. Would anyone be interested in doing so?
These forums are a pretty good place to get advice or share your thoughts, and from what I've seen you'll get multiple perspectives which maybe even better than just one mentor. Another approach to getting that mentoring experience, something I found really helpful, is to watch / listen to lots of different DnD streams (from all over the world), so you can see the different approaches taken by the different DMs, and think about which styles will work for you. Not just the big ones either (i.e Critical Role, Dimension20 etc, Dicebreaker), but search for as wide a variety as you can in streamers / podcasts. It's been really useful to me as I refine my style to think about how a certain approach to world building or story telling or combat or RP fits with who I want to be as a DM, and the kinds of games I want to run. Good luck!
Hi! If you'd like you can join our discord group, The Gen X guild of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We're an 18+ group of mostly older folks, pretty laid back. We have a separate DM chat where you can get tips and pointers. Multiple campaigns are running right now, and I'm sure you'd be welcome to listen in on the games. We're at https://discord.gg/mKqqCs.
