Hello there! I'm an intermediate GM, just began my d&d journey in 2019. I'm a world builder, and would love to make an interesting story with you! The basis of the setting is below.
New Players and Experienced Players are both welcome to play!
We are LGBTQ+ Friendly! You must respect all players and be kind to everyone on the spectrum.
We use voice chat rooms on a private server, everything is online only.
This will be a roleplay heavy game, with combat, and will be character driven.
We are looking for 2-3 players, we currently have 3, and I am the DM.
The Campaign Setting is Homebrew, but we are running on 5e with a loose rule structure.
In order to be considered, you must answer these questions in your message:
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (include race, class, and background with small ideas on backstory)
Are you willing to play a brand new character? yes/no
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this?
Have you played D&D before?
What is your favorite thing about D&D?
The World of Ihelda: Basic Information
Environment: The World is Lush
The world of Ihelda holds more lush forests, deserts, and high mountaintops. Every biome is full of new and interesting plant life. There is so much to discover and research, but the political sphere deals in more trivial matters than discovery.
Demeanor: There is Balance - Savage and Sophisticated
Between civilized cities and towns are large masses of land ridden with thieves, bandits, monstrosities and nature. Even within the nations of mortals, there are savage nations and empires that believe in earning freedom, where slavery is a normal part of society and life is valued differently. Killing a citizen over theft is normal. If you can’t defend yourself, you deserve to get taken advantage of. Contrasting these savage nations, there are sophisticated, elegant nations and empires of love, equality, and democracy. The worship of the gods is a huge part of their lives, and upholding the law is of utmost priority.
Technology & Resources: We Learn from the Gods
The technology is different in certain areas. Overall, most civilizations have the classic fantasy setting: torches, swords, shields, armor, magic. No guns, no high-tech weaponry, no electricity.
Magic: A Gift from the Gods
Magic is a gift given to mortals from the gods. When the Majhen were first created after The Great War, mortals were gifted with the abilities of the different types of magic. Divine Magic is able to be given from each god dependent on their domain, where as Abium is the only god able to give out Arcane Magic. The Majhen are able to discuss the different schools of magic, and explain how they work. Some past Majhen even taught the ways of magic to students at different monasteries. However, now magic is widespread, and although not all are able to use magic, most people are aware of it. Magic items are a lot more difficult to come by.
Politics: Magic Abolishment & War Ridden
The Valaruanian Empire is currently at war against the Nation of Faenudra, and other surrounding nations due to its need to eradicate magic. The worst parts of the war have yet to begin, but everyone is in panic. The Neutral Nations hold their swords high against the ever-growing Valaruanian Empire, knowing that they will be the next targets for expansion. Slavery runs wild in certain untamed areas. Vromir continues to create chaos.
Pantheon: The Gods are Listening
The gods are always listening to prayers, and actively offer help to the mortal world. They watch over Ihelda to ensure peace and prosperity. Some of the gods are less active, but those of lawful good alignment are always listening and ready to give help. Especially since new evils have risen in the world.
Monster Ecology: What’s Not Ours is Theirs
Monsters roam the forests, the Wildlands, and other environments outside of civilization. Some even own parts of the forests due to their magnitude. Apart from other monster-like races (orcs, goliaths, and goblins), the additional roaming of monsters is what keeps kingdoms, nations, and empires from expanding rapidly. Colonies of large spiders, ghouls, banshees, many monsters inhabit large sections of forests and expand their own colonies, which caused the guilds to spring into action.
Tropes: Overrun by Humans, Elves, and Halflings
This fantasy world is your typical one. Humans, elves, half-orcs, half-elves, and halflings are the most common and overpopulated species that reside in typical cities and towns. Orcs, goblins, goliaths, gnomes, and dwarves stick to their colonies in the mountains, in the Wildlands, or unclaimed territories. Tieflings are quite rare. Within Krivona, they are easy magic-using targets. And due to their infernal heritage and connection with devils, most cities in Faenudra won’t grant them citizenship. Aasimar are only seen around Faenudra, although fallen ones may venture into the Wildlands or seek citizenship in one of the Neutral Nations.
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (include race, class, and background with small ideas on backstory)
Human paladin or cleric. Below is a rough back story that I can edit to fit into the world.
Garrick Lightbringer
Garrick is the son of a simple human blacksmith who lived in a sleepy village. Growing up Garrick had the bare necessities and not much more. Nevertheless, he was happy. His mother died giving birth to him, leaving Garrick’s father and three children. It was customary among blacksmiths for children to take on the family trade. However, Garrick’s father and his siblings were killed by invading orcs before Garrick was old enough to begin his apprenticeship. Having hidden in an old barrel during the attack, Garrick was saved by a group of paladins led by a cleric. Unfortunately, many of the other villagers had already perished. The cleric, who had never fathered children, took Garrick in.
When he came of age, with no other family and little opportunity in his hometown, Garrick decided to take the cloth and become a paladin. His faith became his sanctuary and his purpose. Garrick’s duty is to protect the people of his faith and smite those who would oppose them. He is not tolerant of other religions and does not like to associate with orcs. Garrick wants to find peace through a unified religion so that others will not suffer the same losses.
Are you willing to play a brand new character? yes/no
Yes
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this?
I hope to learn the ropes and have the opportunity to create deep story-driven experiences with other players.
Have you played D&D before?
No
What is your favorite thing about D&D?
The opportunity to engage with others in a meaningful way which facilitates long term friendships.
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (include race, class, and background with small ideas on backstory) A fighter, unsure of his pursuits in strength. A half elf druid/cleric, looking for where he fits in. A Ranger/rouge wanting a change. Involves a bit of homebrew and a lot of silliness, Kuo-toa chef that worships a plate of spaghetti and searches for the perfect ingredients to give his 'god' a physical body. Homebrew cook/chef class, or perhaps a paladin or cleric.🤔 I have some rough ideas, but I tend to fill in what I think the party is missing. Plus details depend on questions I have. I know you said the setting was Homebrew, but what about the characters? What classes are the confirmed players thinking of? That would help determain the details.
Are you willing to play a brand new character? Sure, I tend to create a character sheet, then I tend to make a back story from that, so I'm a bit more flexible when it comes to characters.
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this? A fun story. This also ties in with the last question, but I enjoy the story that is either told in the narrative/interactions of the characters, or a course of actions that make a good story.
Have you played D&D before? About a year now I suppose, for 5e at least. I did play a few years as an early teen on a combination of 1e/2e rules, but that was long ago, so only the good but vague memories remain.
What is your favorite thing about D&D? As stated above, story. Fun or interesting. It is up to us, players and DM, to make it a good one 😁
A quick bit about myself, I'm 30+. I do try to help others when I can in chat as it also helps me remember things too. A unique quirk, I sound like I have a permanent accent that people always try to guess. XD
I look forward to hearing from you, and if not, have fun and cause some chaos.
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (include race, class, and background with small ideas on backstory)
The character that I am planning to play is either a elf or a orc necromancer and his story is that he comes from a place where the weak are the one who are fated to die and the strong rule which is why he took the hand of a woman with a bunch of undead around hers hand and was then led the path of life and death which then lead him to become a necromancer
Are you willing to play a brand new character? yes/no
I am willing to play a new character gladly
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this?
I am hoping to get a fun experience with many surprises and friends
Have you played D&D before?
I have not I would be a complete newbie
What is your favorite thing about D&D?
My favorite thing about dnd is that anything can happen, for example you being able to meet a god which many people hope to reach but ultimately never because people believe they only reach god when they die
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (Me and my friend wish to play aasimar Vikings. Mine will be a cleric and his will be a paladin. With the background we will either go sailor or inheritor. Both children that fell from the heavens into a goliath viking village the brothers were raised by seperate parts of the village. Magnus my charachter would stay with the men learning to sail and be a raider while my friends charachter Arnbjorn would go with the women to learn survival and become a hunter. Both brothers once they were of age would set out to seek glory)
Are you willing to play a brand new character? (Possibly so yes)
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this? (A cool story and adventure that gives our charahters room to grow and explore. Overall I would like to have fun play some dnd)
Have you played D&D before?(Yes)
What is your favorite thing about D&D? (I really like making charachters but if have to say role playing and combat can be two of my favorite things. My friend really enjoys being his charachter.)
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (include race, class, and background with small ideas on backstory)
I have some ideas. I usually play martial classes but looking to start playing more caster classes. I have an idea for a tabaxi bard urchin who spent most of his life in slavery and recently escaped and a gnome wizard (divination) sage who from a young age was selected by his people to be their oracle but has run away from the pressures of it. But open to playing really whatever.
Are you willing to play a brand new character? yes/no
Yes
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this?
Just some good times with good people. Also looking to understand the rules of casting magic better.
Have you played D&D before?
Yes, I've been playing for almost a year now. I play a rogue and a monk in my other campaigns.
What is your favorite thing about D&D?
The escapism. So much bullshit in the real world it's so nice to just hop into a character's mind and play them and not worry about what's going on in the world. Also of course i love combat and RP too.
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (include race, class, and background with small ideas on backstory) Female Air Genasi / Fighter, Monk, or Rogue. Have not fully decided on class just yet. She is a new character and I am currently working on her back story. Shes mostly going to be a loner, with probably a bit of rebellious to her. With the back ground of the towns, could go her only friend that "looked" like her was abolished from her childhood town, thus she is on a path of love and peace no matter the cause.
Are you willing to play a brand new character? please see previous? but yes.
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this? I am looking to play again for Nostalgia mostly. Some of my best memories were me and my friends playing til 1 to 2 am. I've also been a huge fan of Forum based RP / and was very active in Amtgard (LARP) all through high school. Sitting and watching critical role has made me even more Nostalgic, and have been trying to get said group back together, but everyones schedule and Covid happened.
Have you played D&D before? Yes! I am new to 5 e but was originally taught 3.5
What is your favorite thing about D&D? Back in the day, (I was 18/19 maybe, playing 3.5 e) I was playing a druid named Adomsk. We had a paladin in our party whose Wisdom, was 6. Yes, his sword and horse was smarter than him. We stumbled upon a Grey Render. Everyone, including his sword and horse, told him not to charge. And he did and we TPK'ed... Being able to remember and tell stories like this, is my favorite thing!
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (include race, class, and background with small ideas on backstory) tabaxi, monk, way of the drunken fist. Outlander background
i was born into the snoring mountain clan, in my village the people always told stories of the world around and their fights. i was always interested in the fights, not the fights themselvs or what people fought for, but how they fought, their tecnics and wepons of use. so at the age of 16 i left the village to learn more, and i stumbled into an old monk. he was nice and i got to see some of the moves he used, he said he was willing to teach me if i wanted, but i would have to join him in the temple. i have now trained there for 6 years and i have begun traveling out into the world to learn more about it and how it works.
Are you willing to play a brand new character? (if need be) yes
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this? having fun playing with people and getting to know the game even more than i already do
Have you played D&D before? yes
What is your favorite thing about D&D? how you can create so many stories and have so much fun playing
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (include race, class, and background with small ideas on backstory)
A human warlock. Perhaps a pact with one of the gods of the world? I also like the look of the UA Genie Warlock. No name as of yet
In terms of backstory, found as a child, floating on a shipwreck at some coastal town, with a naval hat beside him. Adopted by a local fishman, grew up believing his parents were in the navy/coast guard of one of the nations. Has always wanted revenge on pirates and bandits. Strong sense of right and wrong.
However, made some pact as an adult, perhaps from a questionable traveller, to have powers from a god or otherworldy being. Could even have grown up in Valaruanian Empire, raised against magic, but made this pact as revenge on bandits and pirates is more important to him?
But perhaps he's hertitage is not as straigh forward as it seems...His parents were pirates/badits (Am I taking inspiration from Will Turner in Pirates of the Carribean? Aheh...Perhaps.... )
(Additiona info only for DM)
As for background, either fisher (to match with adopted parents) or city watch/investigator, as I imagine the character would have taken that as a career, perhaps even just as a volunteer
Are you willing to play a brand new character? yes/no
Yes of course. Happy to work with the DM and make a character that'd suit what they envision for the campaign
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this?
A chance to get really stuck into DnD. I've played a few one shots at stores, but never got the chance to have a long running campaign. I'd like the opportunity to have memorable experiences with a party and really flesh out my character.
Have you played D&D before?
Just a few one shots. Tried DMing, but couldn't get a group enthusiastic about playing
What is your favorite thing about D&D?
The unknown of it all. Unlike a book or video game, there really is endless oppurtunities. I tend to stick with the obvious path but I love the idea that I could do anything
(Note: I am from Ireland, but the time works out as 19.00-21.30, so that is fine with me)
Type of character - I have no real preference as I have some amazing ideas for just about anything
New Character? Of coarse!
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this? Well, I hope new friends and a hell of a lot of fun!
Have you played D&D before? Ehhh... a little many years ago
What is your favorite thing about D&D? It’s like being transported into a mythical land that we get to explore!!
Hi, I’m Hannah! I’m 37 and would love the chance to join instead of just read. I have had my adventures in real life and unfortunately I’m retired in that aspect so I seek a new adventure with you all.
Hello, this would be awesome. Finally something that is in my timeframe :-)
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (include race, class, and background with small ideas on backstory) To be completely honest I have no idea, so I am open to roll something up with the group, that would benefit everyone. Depending on that I would create some background information.
Are you willing to play a brand new character? yes/no Yes definetly
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this? Fun mostly, I want to share laughs and tears, anger and joy wit ha group that respects one another and is listening to the DM and other players that are rping.
Have you played D&D before? Sadly no.
What is your favorite thing about D&D? That the potential is limitless
Looking to play a bard, wizard or druid. Race would be something medium sized most likely, and something that grants the requisite wisdom, intelligence, or charisma to my class of choice.
Yes I am fine with playing a new character.
Looking to make friends and have a good group of people to enjoy my time with. When chat in character feels natural and flows with good vibes, that's what I'm after.
I've played Dungeons and Dragons a lot, from both sides of the screen.
My favorite thing is the heroic moments, banter between characters and using epic gear to do crazy stuff.
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (include race, class, and background with small ideas on backstory?
I have a slight problem with rolling up new characters when I'm bored so I'm flexible but the front-runners right now are:
Human Path of Storm Herald Barbarian - Former sailor who left the sailing life behind after his captain was killed in a mutiny
Half-orc Monk - Grew up in a gladiator arena and has left it behind for a life of adventure
Elf Forge Cleric - Haven't really figured out a backstory here but the general idea is that they come from a line of smith's and are looking to perfect the art of forging weapons
Are you willing to play a brand new character? yes/no
Of course
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this?
Looking to have some fun and build a great story with cool people
Have you played D&D before?
Yeah. I played a few 3.5 campaigns years ago and finished a year and a half long 5e campaign about a year ago
What is your favorite thing about D&D?
Monks. Also roleplaying discussions between characters/NPC, whether that be making a vital decision, haggling with an NPC, or just cracking jokes in the tavern after a dungeon crawl
I am a relatively new player but I have a great character concept -"Old Man Malcom" . A rouge with delusions of grandeur as a young lad he was put in a school of magic. But after the first trimester he was expelled out because he failed everything he tried and almost accidently hurt a person. His family didn't want to hurt him and didn't shared the information with him. He kept on going to the school and refused to leave. So his school came up with a plan to get him to quit. They told him that he had become the worlds greatest wizard and that they couldn't teach him anything. However, a curse had been placed on him and blocking his magic over the years.
Malcom left the school. He aged fast his golden years where behind him as if in the blink of a eye one day he finally turned 80 and received a dream calling him to adventure and so he set out on a quest to find the other members of the party in his dreams. it most likely his delusions of grandeur but maybe just maybe it was the god of prophesy starting a new adventure.
I'm willing to play another character
I'm looking to find a group of players that share my love for DND and exploring the vast worlds of our minds.
I've played DND once before but the campaign fell apart
My favorite thing about DND is watching the story happening around you.
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (include race, class, and background with small ideas on backstory) A character that I want to try out is a human fighter which is multiclassing with sorcerer and as for background I was thinking of having them be a heir to a noble household but I can change this depending on whats going on with the campaign.
Are you willing to play a brand new character? yes/no Yes
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this? Just some good banter and good times
Have you played D&D before? I've played one campaign that started to fall apart towards the end
What is your favorite thing about D&D? The fact that anything can happen due to imagination and dice rolls
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (Stout Halfling Monk Criminal Background)
Rayden grew up in one of the savage nations. Kidnapped as a young boy by slave traders, he was often moved place to place as he was sold and resold and resold again. He has no clue where he originally came from or his full name. After many years of slavery, he was fed up with being treated as a disposable tool. Without money to pay for a weapon, he punched his own cage day after day. His knuckles bloodied, he eventually punched straight through the bar; it was then that he knew he was ready. He waited until an opportune moment to strike, and killed his current owners with his bare fists. His freedom was assured, but he had to wonder and steal to survive.
Are you willing to play a brand new character?
I just made the character above to fit into your world.
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this? Have you played D&D before?
I'm hoping to get regularly scheduled games with real story. So far I've only played random encounters in pickup games.
What is your favorite thing about D&D?
I like the infinite possibilities and interacting in hilarious/interesting ways with other players and NPCs.
Additional Info:
Discord: Refectus#2595 22yrs old. I just got into DnD recently because of a show called "The Dungeon Run."
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (include race, class, and background with small ideas on backstory)
Xandor the Ghostwise Halfling Ranger with Outlander Background- Backstory Idea- His village was raided by goblins stealing and killing all they saw very few survived. Those that did left to find a new home except for Xandor he chose to stay and live off the land in hopes of one day finding the goblins who did this to his home and bringing them to the justice they deserve an arrow through the eye.
Are you willing to play a brand new character? yes
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this? Just looking to have fun and enjoy getting into a new game.
Have you played D&D before? I've played in 3 groups before, it's been a while and I'd like to get back into it again.
What is your favorite thing about D&D? The variety everytime you join a new campaign or start a new day in one it's always changing and exciting.
What type of character are you thinking of playing? (include race, class, and background with small ideas on backstory)
Simic Hybrid (re-skinned if possible) Storm Sorcerer, Inheritor: The offspring of a Harpy and Siren they enjoyed a life in a grove. It wouldn't take long before collectors would catch wind of a rare species. Uprooted and on the run this young one would have to adjust quickly.
KalashtarBarbarian Far Traveler: To their surprise when a traditioned coronation with their ancestors produced unexpected spiritual guest things were surely shaken up. Taking it in stride and wandering to the request of these newly befriend apparitions they would find themselves in one silly situation after another
Loxodon / LeoninCleric Folk Hero: A once renown local hero has long since become a family man. Past his prime and secretly wishing for any excuse to live out his midlife crisis he "begrudgingly" sets out on an adventure.
(not much of a min/maxer so I go with things I find thematically amusing) (the races are flexible, I picked them to make it easier to envision the intent)
Are you willing to play a brand new character?
For sure :)
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this?
Very much enjoy improv and seeing people be able to succeed with overcoming nerves. So hoping to play a longterm campaign to sink my teeth into the mechanics and hopefully become a DM down the line.
Have you played D&D before?
Watched shows and listened to podcasts. Only played once in this current campaign that's roughly 7-8 sessions in. Playing a CN Monkey Goblin Druid named Oggy :)
What is your favorite thing about D&D?
The improv and flexibility an imagination based game provides. As well as thinking outside the box for more memorable / intricate characters. Any excuse to sneak in some biomimicry is a good day.
GL with your campaign regardless :)

Good Morning!

(Note: I am from Ireland, but the time works out as 19.00-21.30, so that is fine with me)
I don’t have a character at the ready, I would like to create one with the help of the DM to fit the best the story
Yes
Having fun and create an interesting story with a group
no
Being able to discover a world with only your imagination as a tool
(Note : I am from France but the time works out)
Hello, this would be awesome. Finally something that is in my timeframe :-)
To be completely honest I have no idea, so I am open to roll something up with the group, that would benefit everyone. Depending on that I would create some background information.
Yes definetly
Fun mostly, I want to share laughs and tears, anger and joy wit ha group that respects one another and is listening to the DM and other players that are rping.
Sadly no.
Are you willing to play a brand new character? yes/no
Of course
What kind of experience are you hoping to get out of this?
Looking to have some fun and build a great story with cool people
Have you played D&D before?
Yeah. I played a few 3.5 campaigns years ago and finished a year and a half long 5e campaign about a year ago
What is your favorite thing about D&D?
Monks. Also roleplaying discussions between characters/NPC, whether that be making a vital decision, haggling with an NPC, or just cracking jokes in the tavern after a dungeon crawl
I am looking to Join Your campaign.
And also watching DND videos like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H-1WJtuzPg&list=PLFOaJWATTt_A7thZA9WFGEpZRC9CBjkWY this one
Btw I am also on roll20 and discord Ak45 on roll 20 and Ak45k on discord
A character that I want to try out is a human fighter which is multiclassing with sorcerer and as for background I was thinking of having them be a heir to a noble household but I can change this depending on whats going on with the campaign.
Yes
Just some good banter and good times
I've played one campaign that started to fall apart towards the end
The fact that anything can happen due to imagination and dice rolls
