What's the proper protocol for inviting players to join a potential online game by reaching out to current online game friends?
I'm playing in two different online games and VERY happy with both DMs and all players. I'd play another game with any of them in a heartbeat, and I didn't know any of them 8 weeks ago. Now I would like to start running a seperate game and I'm looking for players. I'd like to build a group of players that have a similar play-style and commitment level, and I might try to recruit 1-3 friends of mine in RL. So the question is, what's the most polite and above board way to invite just a few online players without insulting some others or looking like I'm trying to poach players (which I am absolutely not doing)? In the end, I know I can fill out the ranks with DnD Beyond players who need a group (I was one of those just 9 weeks ago!), but I'd like to be able to invite those I know would be fun to play with. Then, when I have a spot or two, I can reach out and hopefully find good fits and new friends.
In the end it just comes down to how you do it. Be honest with the people you want to play with for your own setting, and tell them you think they'd make a great fit. As long as what you're doing doesn't interfere with the current games you're already playing it's not rude, or even in my mind deception.
Branching out and playing with the people you enjoy playing with, and putting them together isn't you doing anything wrong.. and if someone you didn't invite has a problem with it then that tells you more about that person rather than reflecting on yourself or how you handled it.
Good luck,
Someone who has done this before.
