Background: I have been playing TTRPGs most of my life. I fell in love with D & D for its rich lore, endless possibilities and the ability to create evocative stories with my fellow players. It is my belief that D & D (and other TTRPGs) can serve as a version of communal therapy. That is how I want to spend my life, enriching other people's lives through the game we all love. I am passionate about provocative storytelling, meaningful connections with people and catharsis through creative expression.
DM style: I prefer to challenge my players with equal shares of combat, narrative roleplaying, and exploration but I tailor our games based on the needs of my players. I am knowledgeable on the rules as written and I have homebrewed rules to supplement the gameplay experience as appropriate. All my homebrew rules are explained upfront and if I ever need to change a rule, I will discuss it beforehand. I consider myself to be a confident, clever, and fair DM, but good storytelling is to show not tell.
Little is known about the Age of Desolation. Myths and legends from civilizations past and present allude to the notion that when the Elder Gods left creation, other powerful entities emerged to exude dominion over the world of Ios. Some say that the Age of Desolation was when Dragons first started to appear in the skies. Others say that without the Elder Gods to hold the chaos at bay, creation started to twist upon itself belching forth the abominations that haunt us to this day such as vampires, aberrations, and other horrors. Historians estimate that the Age of Desolation lasted somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 years but accounts vary. All that is known that civilizations rose and crumbled under the chaos of a Godless Ios.
Starting Setting: City of Sierrona
Most survivors of the Divine Cataclysm sought refuge in one of the coastal cities of the Ulavari Coast. Each of the coastal cities is under the rule of various competing cartels. The poor suffer under the weight of the elite’s power structure, but trade freedom for safety against the horrors of the wilds. Our story beings in the coastal city of Sierrona. The majority of Sierrona is filthy, cobbled-together houses resembling favelas, the market or the lavish villas of the various power brokers that run the city. Ambitious people attempt to find work with these cartels, foolish people cross them and the wise keep their head down. Which of these people are you? Whatever your reasons, you have surely come to Sierrona for a reason? Perhaps you have lived here since before the war; perhaps you retreated with the rest of the refuges; perhaps you work here for one of the competing organizations or perhaps you are just in town to shop and socialize. Everyone in Sierrona is looking for something, what are you looking for?
