People have said a lot of things about the city of Somber. That it's a den of filth, sin, and debauchery. That it's a symbol of man's hubris laying claim to a stretch of nothingness in the middle of the desert that's doomed to its own destruction. That it's filled with a plentitude of monstrous types all vying to tear each other to bits and ******* pieces. No one's trying to say any of those things are right.
They are. But no one's admitting to it.
You can't walk five minutes without catching the reflection of the neon lights against the scales of some mermaid on a smoke break or narrowly avoiding a fly by vampire trying to convince you that it was a total accident bro. For the most part we've done a pretty good job of covering it up. Somber still gets a ton of tourism and no one is writing any yelp reviews about the fey cursing their children. They are writing google reviews but like, no one reads those, so it’s fine. Just make some fake emails and spam the star rating back up. You're a new member of our little organization, a branch of the Somber tourism board. The job is simple. Keep the city’s dirty little secrets, secrets. Perks include discounts at most major hotels and quite a few connected eateries. Cons include almost being eaten by ooze people so.
Ya know.

In this setting technology is common and magic is fairly rare… outside of Somber. And Somber would very much love to keep that fact quiet. Still, they can’t help their plentitude of extraplanar ancestries and whatever makes verdan just… grow like that. The Tourism Board tries to spin it as “well we’re just a big melting pot haha!” but folk have their ideas. We should ignore those.
