Preferred role: Player
Game style: looking for a game that is more relaxed so that new players can learn. Ive been interested for a long time, just found this and have started learning about creating .y character and reading some intro info. I desperately want to learn how to play, just need a patient group to help me get going.

I'm going to give you some things ti think about. Most people think of when going on-line.. about something mirroring a regular table game; IE.. schedule a meeting time, get together, and maybe Zoom or something. This is Quite common.
The thing is there are PbP [play by post], some like Rpol https://rpol.net/ which you leave a post and wait for the rest to post. This is often slow and relaxed, as it is often something like 1-7 posts per week and sometimes scheduled combat added when needed to speed things up. (which are more like Text Chats) as everyone is there at the same time.
And many Scheduled Party Playgroups, do text chat. and audio chat and or as well as Video chat. and if they are using discord they may mix text in because discord has the Avrea Bot that is officially linked to D&D^B's character-sheets and players & DM-owned D&D^B 5th ed assets. and the bot actually does the rolling off of the sheet in the discord.. using player and DM typed text commands.
There is another style of Play where you Join a D&D Roleplay Community; they are often officially 24/7. but what that means is once you create your sheet according to the Community Rules, often time rolling for ability scores in their discord in assigned threads, checking with the server Admin as you build your character. What you need to realize is that they have discovered that all too often newer community players need help finishing the Characters. You start to play by Entering the RP threads and starting to rp with those players present. Often you will "just" RP until enough are online that you can leave the "Downtime" roleplay; enter the "outlands and ping for a DM.
So if you are interested in learning how the basics of; D&D^B, discord, Avrea, and 5th edition, You might want to start in a community RP campaign to learn RP and combat for your characters. And keep looking for a scheduled table-style game as well. I have been told my discord links aren't working, my discord handle is; C-h F....#4325 This Link is for Gaia https://discord.gg/TZtkmCKVwS A community RP game go to public chat tell them you are new and check out the rule, and let the folks help you understand how building your character works.. If You're interested.
