I've been thinking about DMing for a few months. If the following resonates with you, send me a private message here at DNDBeyond or send me a friend request to PDubb#2739 in Discord. If there is enough interest, perhaps I can pull something together.
Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online, using DNDBeyond for Character Sheets Experience:
Me: I'm also an "Old Dog.” I’m 55, and played 1stEdition AD&D long ago. I'm fairly new to D&D 5e and gaming in an online environment. As a modern DM, I am in the early stages of the learning curve. My weakest element probably is the online mechanics. I feel I have a fair grasp of game mechanics, although it has been a while since I kept a game flowing. I certainly don’t know all the rules, but am trying to learn and when in doubt, make stuff up.
You: All experience would be welcome. All players should be tolerant of each other and of my own inexperience. Newer players should be willing to learn. More experienced players should be willing to share knowledge to improve the game.
Location/Timezone: CST (UTC-6, Switch to CDT in March/UTC-5) Availability: Friday, early evening start time, ~3 hour sessions? Possibly could switch to Saturday in a few weeks, as the Saturday night game I currently play will come to a close this month, I think. Preferred role: DM – I'm interested in learning this role. Can also be a Player. Game style: Balance of combat, social encounter, and role playing. In the old school games I played, hack n’ slash ruled the day, but it also burned me out. I’d like to get better at the RP element. D&D 5e seems to be better built for social encounters and role playing than the old edition I knew, and I would like to take advantage of that.
Other Thoughts
Campaign/Module: I have a few miscellaneous semi-homebrew ideas set in the Forgotten Realms, but it probably makes sense for a group to coalesce before that decision is made. As a newbie to 5e and the online environment, it might make sense for me to start with a premade module, and everyone says Lost Mines of Phandelver is good for new DMs. I’m playing it now as a player and suspect that assessment is accurate. It might be a good place to start. But as I haven’t read through the module since I’m playing it, I’ll reserve judgment.
Online Interface - I prefer video chat to voice chat because I think it helps me get more comfortable with the group and I imagine I am not the only one who feels that way.
Session Zero: There needs to be at least one Session Zero. Only one of these games had a Session Zero and it is the most enjoyable of the 3 games I've tried out. It helped establish a rapport that has developed into something resembling camaraderie. This game also happens to be the one using video chat.
Character Development - I enjoy games that weave character backstory into the storyline and allow opportunities for character development. As a DM, I would like this to flavor the game, so would ask players to spend some time thinking about character backstory, motivation, and goals.
Team Play: As a player, the most rewarding experiences for me are groups working together to have fun. Roleplaying evil jerks or edgy Batman types usually works against this; those character concepts are going to be discouraged.
I am old also and have just started playing on discord with my sons, friends and family. I think our group is alike in many ways and would like to become at minimum friends together. I am playing on Saturday nights (Central time). I wouldn't mind getting together sometime. I will give you my tag which is the same on discord which is what you need to play online.
I am 50 year old guy who is missing his D&D looking for a casual group of adults to get back into the game. Prefer group meet once a week at most.

48yr old here in same situation. Found memories of playing 1st edition. Collected books for second edition, but no one to play with.
Kids are growing up and have their own lives, and I find myself missing the game terribly.
Please consider adding me to your group. I'm in EST, but am available most evenings.
