Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online Experience: New Location/Timezone: North Carolina (EST) Availability: Most Weekends may can make some week nights work. Preferred role: Player Game style: I have never played before so I have no clue what I'm getting into besides watching some videos online. I have played around with creating a character but that's basically how far I have gotten. I have played many fantasy games and read some D&D based books so the setting should be no challenge.
Yo~ I'm a fairly new player as well, I've played a few sessions but it's been awhile and I don't remember too much... so I'm kind of sucky.. I'm most likely available any time as long as it's not suuuper early or suuuper late. Also, I'm more likely to be unavailable on fridays as that's when I tend to pick up shifts.
I'd prefer to play as a player. I've also, never played online before ever so that would be a learning curve - also I'm not okay with video calls, only voice...just saying.
I'm 23 and live in Canada which is EST as well. In addition, I do own a 5e player's handbook, dm book and a monster manual.
I may also have my sister or another friend who may be interested as well, but I'm not sure on that front yet.
Hi, I'm pretty new as well. I have a good understanding of how the game works, but I've struggled to find a group/DM. Add me on discord if you'd consider playing with me! pear_ass#2263
I'd also like to join I play a Brass Dragonborn barbarian and I live in Indiana so (EST). I can play any day of the week as long as it's 5:45pm to 12pm. Discord sad_dad#9614
I happen to belong to an online discord D&D 5e Roleplay group; GAIA https://discord.gg/j2Tb3VnH I have heard that these invite links are failing so my Discord handle is C-h F....#4325
BUT; it is text only and 24/7 not scheduled roleplay play though staff DMs may schedule a special event, some times are slower than others.
To give you an idea of how it works if you decide to join. You find or get on GAIA; [hit link or DM me in discord to see if I have it figured how to get you there that way. And read the starting Rules: [ #rules, #char-rules, and #quick-guide-for-bluebies [ blue starting player tag ] THEN ASK Questions in public chat. you Will have some.
You will use the discord Avrae Bot command [ !randchar (which rolls six ability scores and gives you a total at the bottom) or !threshold -min 80 -tries 10 ] and roll in the roll threads; #roll-1, #roll-2, #roll-3; until you get a roll that totals 80+. That is actually better normally than standard array so.. AND you can place in any order for you character. THEN PING @Admin, this is only to verify you took the first 80+ roll
When rolls okay'd go to #public-chat and look for a DM campaign link in pinned, click it and make a character in that Gaia campaign, that allows you to make the character using BOTH your D&D^Beyond books and that DM's. As well as the HOMEBREW races and items Gaia has allowed.
GAIA starts the PCs at the third level; You then go to your new campaign on D&D^B in "Collections" and start a new PC in the Campaign. At any time if you have questions go to #public-chat and ask, someone, is usually around When the PC is done on D&D^B you go to #character-sheets and type the Avrae bot command !beyond (URL) (URL) being the URL of the character sheet on D&D^B.. then PING @Admin again this time they will make sure you didn't forget something; like the last two levels, or setting the weapons you own to usable.. or even remembering to pick your equipment at all.. we all do it so no biggie they are just double-checking to make sure you got the PC ready.
Some leading advice in Gaia tools make a difference; either ask in #public-chat or go to #willowdale-refinary in pinned and read the crafting magic rules, don't hunt alone, as the rules are the DM is required to set the odds as deadly. Avoid #luckies-pub it is a "Private club" with a half-orc bouncer yakuza invite-only. Remember the Avrae Bot does a lot of work, it runs the combat initiative, rolls saves, checks, spellcasts and attacks for the players and DM.
Once okay'd you are ready to bring your character into the Willowdale #city-square, to let you know when you start you are seeing only one city out of seven (that I know of; I believe they have some hidden by DMs.) You take your PC can to the Adventurers guild #guild-halll [not miss spelled] and join. by pinging @NPC; a staff semi-DM who does shop NPCs. but it isn't required.
as one mentioned wanting to Dungeon master thought I would include an idea of Staff positions.
First is the staff NPC DMs @NPC; you must have the NPC tag; and answer calls in most establishments including the temple.. but not the tavern or inn.. players just rp that themselves. AND gain Staff xp for the first four calls the answer in a day that don't include themselves. If you think you can handle remembering the NPCs and who they are. Ping @Admin in #questions-for-admins and ask for the @NPC tag
Second is actual DMs; like @Willowdale and Eagle's Eyrie DM these answer pings in the outland threads and droup trouble in the PCs that call them. they also get staff xp for their PCs.. IF they aren't in the party. If you think you can handle DMing. Ping @Admin in #questions-for-admins and ask to be allowed to run a Test encounter. with players.. If you fail.. there is still the #DM Classes Voice
there is the @Underground DM, and I have no clue right now how that works but similar.
there is @Admin whose ruling trump DM's, and the the Boss whose server it is. but you have to work you way up to admins.
Wow, that was a lot to take in. Thanks the the info and taking the time to write that out. I'll be honest, I am old, as in 2nd edition old. Paper, pencil with good eraser, and a handful of dice - old. Most of that was gibberish to me. If I decide to give this a try is the learning curve high for someone that is fairly computer literate?
I am Old.. as in 1st Edition we can't let these young whippersnappers get ahead of us.
and if you want to try it out don't be afraid to stop by in #public-chat and ask questions.. even if you decide it isn't for you you won't know if you don't understand it.
I'm thinking I might need to figure out Discord first. :) Still have my first edition book. Never did get anyone to play till second came out. Lucky you.
Actually the easy part is the Roleplay, but to start you do need to follow the Gaia process to get a PC ready to play. But it is mostly using a particular command in a particular place and having your stats okay'd then using those stat's in D&D^beyond to make a PC and having them check again to make sure you didn't forget something.
And I keep telling people to stop of in Public chat and let us know you are there and that is our biggest problem, they don't.
The rest is learn as you go.
