Basically i've set up another group its going super everyone is delightful and one of the players is now DM'ing and its all good and I've got the itch to set up another group and DM.
Yes I will DM but also I'm lazy & I can't be bothered to control everything and have a linear completely thought through carefully planned campaign and I want to have fun too - I have a life and need to make money
I want to be entertained by you, dance for me make daddy happy (not in that creepy controlled way), I'm not going to put out unless its worth it - you as a player need to bring something to the table something good some tasty character role playing - one or two can be going through a tough time be introspective and using RP as a bridge to building your confidence growing and exploring human interaction as a person and we can nurture and love you. But most of the team need to bring something and by that I want to see strong character play and effort (remember I"m lazy you need to do the work) and do that nurturing for the quiet one who's great just needs a bit of love before they explode from bud to beautiful flower
Along with being lazy I love food and art - Good food always starts with the best ingredients (are you a good ingredient) - Matisse paints with colour all perfectly matching (are you going to get along and be fabulous friends and laugh and joke with quality GIF's or bad pun's)
I'm thinking of running Yawning Portal - run through the book of adventures (How lazy is that)
I'm (its me me me isn't it well I'm the power mad DM what would you expect) looking for people who will make the game colourful, i haven't watched critical role (I'm old i watch dead people playing jazz or young men or ladies fighting each other) so I can only tell you my own view of D&D as a player focuses on flaws and trying to survive playing someone different to myself and learning what others might do if placed in a challenge.
As a DM i want you to bring something unique to the table (a unique tasty casserole not an abomination) we to bring those quality ingredients and work together to prepare a great dish and with that i'm expecting the players to to 80% of the work (peeling spuds) bring the dynamic have the characters the motivations drive it all forward.
I'm not looking for great voice actors or those filled with there own vainglorious nature (well you can but i will take the piss without mercy)
What makes a good character well its something interesting and what makes something interesting good question very subjective question, to me anyway it might be something dynamic and allows you to go somewhere with it have a character arc something like this;
My character is motivated by his love for others his core is an altruistic/empathetic core or nature feeling for others and wanting to support and also be liked.
My character is also flawed while he is empathetic he is also needy with deep insecurities coming from the need to belong be that a place in society the party and can at rare times be overcome by jealousy causing him to undermine his friends in order to secure his status and position
Perhaps more illuminating is what makes a bad character one i will allow to die quickly and painfully in a humiliating way (DM Abuse), again subjectively from my position.
He come's from the dark dark streets growing up alone suffered terribly (being terribly dull) ....... I trust no one I live only for revenge a dark lonely loner walking the lonely path alone (FFS you need to work in a group... this is a group activity) .... I seek a destiny that my great abilities alone can bring never changing from this fixed path moving inexorably to my fixed destiny (As DM I want to kill you now you pretentious bleep)
I've got 2 / 3 players I'm thinking 6 with a view that 5 is the ideal and at least 1 will drop out for reasons
- I'm going to make it easier -
Your character for reasons of monetary gain or other such reason i leave at your discretion has joined a mercenary company
The Honourable Mercenary Retinue Company - HMRC
HMRC has a heraldic shield, this shield has a blue background on it two swans one white one black stare face to face with necks entwined as if star crossed lovers looking deeply longingly into each other souls for eternity, they stand proudly on a pile of gold kept in a nest woven form the words of the HMRC most fitting moto 'Ego tibi expendibiles'
You have to give more tell me something more than that and really based on the group I envision have some life experiance. There will are groups for all types when I started I just loved combat and numbers and charts lots of charts. How can you make my life as a dm a breeze
I'm interested in this campaign idea, been playing for about 6 or 7 months, just looking to play another campaign where I could expand my knowledge and my play style. Saw this and was very intrigued. Would love to know more !!
Tell me what you can give and not what you can take and ideally its someone who has ideas perhaps you like reading Dumas or something interesting, i'm not intreated in passive as in i'm looking for a new campaign or to learn there really isn't learning to D&D I don't read the rules or learn them its more what are you going to do and what experience are you going to create. Honestly this could be here for a long time to find the right people I'm happy to wait
Looks as if we got 4 Players now - one i've done sessions before a lovely person - based on the last time i set up a group a few dropped out as they didn't like the style or group dynamics which is fair enough so theres 2 slots even before the drop outs (i'm looking to put together a band of friends) - so i'm leaving this up and see what happens - just ping me can't say i'm the most intelligent or cultured not looking for academia standard greek analysis just people who are interested and therefore are interesting if that makes sense. I'm more into understand why people do what they do than telling what they should be doing the older i get that could be wisdom or laziness we can have a chat about it.
By the way the others appear normal guy from Belgium is a film maker and a delight so don't be put off two much by me i'm a softy at heart
Not going to lie this sounds like an absolute blast. Would love to get in on this. Been looking for a good party with some good RP. Love playing the flaws of my characters to increase that immersion.
Sounds cool. I'm into the roleplaying aspect, although don't have much experience at higher levels. I'm adaptable to the style you wanna play, from kinda serious motivations, to silly quirks that somehow work (hopefully), so it's a matter of what the group prefers. I think i can bring out-of-the-box solutions and stupid enough decisions to keep you on your toes (although i'm not necessarily a derailer), and i'm chill, so i don't create issues and i'm easy to talk to. If open / interested let me know
Concerned you might be in the wrong timezone raptor its tricky getting uk/european players aligned - i will message you skatefox just concerned you might be too young i don't want to feel like a peado - i saw an advert for a DM once with no Nonces which made me laugh just thinking while having multiple viewpoints and ages is good below 21 might feel odd
thursday works well as a time for me, so I'm interested. I've experience as a writer and a lot of time under my belt roleplaying and DMing. I've a general focus on Roleplaying and character development as a player, and a couple of ideas for a good character line dup. My characters tend to be low on edge value and I'm fully capable of giving as much or as little backstory as required.
I haven't played in 17yrs (yeahhhhhh, I'm getting old) but my love for the game never went away. I've got a pick pocketing warlock tiefling in mind with a small backstory of how she got her patron. She's chaotic neutral, loves to steal, sometimes forgets or ignores the plans that were made, freedom above all, looking for things to sacrifice for her patron, and so on...
I'm curious about your style of DM'ing (cause your intro really made me laugh) and the group dynamics. I love seeing individuals coming together, how bonds grow and how the dice can make you cry of laughter cause of epic fails or great wins :D
If there is still a place available, let me know! :)
Ok I will keep you in mind we already have 5 lovely people playing all intelligent, articulate and highly creative, amazing RP'ers all from different parts of the world all with confusing accents making understanding each other almost impossible.
While i planned for and indeed insisted that they agree on some sort of group cohesion with the concept of party unity it appears that even after only session one this is a lost hope, a fragment, a dream never to be made real, its clear now that its utter chaos and with this chaos any vestige of authority i might have hoped of stamping my ego my will has gone, my very manliness has been trampled on. Every player/character is stamping there unique will onto the world shaping it, attempting something new something not even hinted of in the adventures plot.
Let me give you one such example of the chaos; Fat Tony a character who sees every cleric as a peado stealing children trapping them into a crate and then selling them into slavery, now have a group interact with a cleric which has information to proceed with the plot line.
As a DM i'd rate myself as poor i've imagined a lot but fail to communicate most of it leaving everyone lost in confusion. Poor again as I'm not giving players enough freedom and i push players to move forward with the module follow the fixed plot lines without allowing them enough freedom to determine action or fate.
Session 2, i'm hoping I can shut up more and that we will have more Undead Pirate sea shanties from one player 'who has an amazing singing voice' and i will accept no embrase the chaos as i'm already doubting module that one line description of the NPC village cleric of Pelor there to provide a snippet of information never mentions this lady gnome is infact not being a ring leading kidnapping peado slaver, and for myself having Fat Tony finding so much evidence....
ummm i don't know whether im a little late or not or whether i fit your criteria. i'm a british university student and very new to dnd but want to try and go all out with a bit of rp. i have a character idea set up kind of a 'psychotic' character but actually fully making the character is a little bit of a problem as im not sure on what to do. no worries if not but thought i'd try as your campaign sounds like a laugh
Sounds like life tbh, you've got a plan in mind and it didn't work out BUT we manage in the end. But hey, even tho it might not be how you've imagined, all that matters is that you're having a great time :D

Still looking for some players?
