Hello Brave adventure! I see you have some curiosity about DnD and how its done.
Well you are in luck. I'am a DM with many years(12) of experience in both online and real life games. I have run dozens of custom campaigns, ranging in difficulty and theme with groups between 3 to 10 players.
I think it would be fun to put together a "one off" with the purpose of allowing people to try DnD and learn the basics without having to commit to a recurring game. So if you are new and not sure how it's done, or have been following the game but never had a chance to play. Now is your chance. We will use character sheets from DnD beyond. The game will likely be 3 hours at a time and setting to be determined based off who signs up. It will be beginner friendly, i only ask you come in with an open mind and a serious desire to give it a shot!
I will be using discord for voice/video and fantasy grounds for the table(all you will need is the demo game as i have the DM license for this, so there will be no cost). Lets shoot for 4 people to keep the group small to allow for more questions to be asked during the game without bogging us down to much. Newbies only please experienced players need not apply!
I would like to join this, but how do I do the character sheet? Can I not use one of the characters I have already on the D&D Beyond website? I need more explanation on that part. Also, I have no mic... What do we do with that? Also, is there a campaign link or a date set for this? I am really confused.
Like the universe, but never played actual tabletop D&D (Euro/GMT timezone). The obvious question is regarding the pausing of the game during Christmas/New Year (periods where people go on holidays).
Hello, I would love to join you all on this journey. I am new to D&D, I've never had anyone to join me, and would truly enjoy if I would participate. although I will warn you I'm socially awkward but in my own self-acclaimed charming way.
Hello All! Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the delay! I host thanksgiving so have been a bit busy.
The response has been great so it looks like we will get this game off the ground! Now lets see if we can find a time/day that works for enough people and then we can set a date for the one off. So if you are interested please post what your availability is for a sunday game we will do a 3 hour game. So the type of response i would like would look something like:
"hello I can play in between 7am and 11am Eastern Sundays. I cannot play between 11am and 7pm eastern. I cannot be part of a game that runs later than 11pm eastern on a sunday."
Now for more specific questions:
Cosmix - We ill use fantasy grounds for the virtual table"https://www.fantasygrounds.com/home/home.php" You do not need to buy it. The demo version will meet our needs as we will just use it for maps and dice.
ShadIn - There will be no need to worrie about theses types of breaks as this is a "One off" Meaning just one game with the intent of giving people a taste of DND.
Flatkap, ShadIn, RCGrimshaw, DM_Galdrheim - As far as time zones go. Just post what your availability is for sundays in general and we can see if we can make a time work for enough people. If you can post the times in Eastern US that would be helpful for me : ) if not that's ok just make sure you note what time zone.
We are full.

Edits for clarity:
* Voice will be required aka you need to be atleast able to speak. Cams are good but not required.
* Time of the game will be determined by the people who sign up.

I have an odd obsession with the Oxford comma.
I'd love to play! I'm in central time or GMT -6.

I can play anytime from 11 am eastern-11 pm eastern. I can't be part of a game that starts after 9 pm eastern.
Another question. Could we use an already created character? And if so, could it be a race that is not part of the race list on ddb?
I could play on sundays anytime between 9AM-9PM EST
So looks like we can make a Sunday time work:
ShadIn, Flatkap, ScatteredA - you all look good for a sunday game(date TBD).
ScatteredA - what rase were you thinking? Im not going to be very picky about much given the intent of this game will be to focus on mechanics and RP.
So The next one or two who respond with a similar window of time will round out the roster.
Hey, I'm good with Sunday at anytime after 6 or so if that's alright.
I have an odd obsession with the Oxford comma.
6:00 pm, I apologize for not making that clear.
