Next weekend is my first full session with an ongoing group. I play an Artificer. One of my party members is an Aarakocra Monk of the Four Elements. One of my infusions is an Enhanced Arcane Focus staff. It gives a +1 to spell attacks and spells ignore half cover. At level 5, I really only have a couple spells that benefit from the bonus. He has Elemental Attunement and Fist of Unbroken Air. Would I be doing him any favors by tossing him my staff after expending my spell slots, before wading in with Thunder Guantlets and a battleaxe? (the staff works perfectly well as a quarterstaff, BTW)
The only use would be as a quarterstaff. Elemental disciplines, I believe, are all saving throw based so gaining a bonus to attack doesn’t help. And they don’t need material components so the focus part doesn’t help either.

not only that but because they are parimarily saving throw or utility based. they also don't care about partial cover which is just an AC boost anyway.
Really that's part of the ignored synergy of the elemental disciplines to the Normal Monk Stuff. Base Monk Stuff mostly is based all around either attack rolls or utility, with the exception of Stunning Strike. 4 elements on the other hand has not only a bunch of save spells to work with but a bunch of different saves to them as well. So if they learn what stats their opponents might be weakest in then they can tailor their combat to some extent to take advantage of those weaknesses.
It's like having access to two slightly different styles of kits in one character. And the only reason they don't go totally to town with it is because of their ki costs limiting their ability to do so at lower levels.
