Hey does the monk ability, Ki-Empowered Strikes, overcome the damage reduction ability of the barbarian rage?
Ki-Empowered Strikes - Starting at 6th level, your unarmed strikes count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.

No. Barbarian Rage grants resistance to all Piercing, Slashing, and Bludgeoning damage, magical or not.
Someone pointed out that there are enemies, like ghosts, that have resistances to all non-magical attacks. So the Ki-Empowered Strike allows for monks to have magical attacks to over come this resistance that ghosts have. Since rage just specifies specific types of attacks and not if they are magical or not, then that implies that rage gives resistance regardless of magical or not. The monk ki-strike specifies "nonmagical attacks and damage" to overcome. So if ghosts have resistances to non-magical attacks, regardless of the type, this ki-strike overcomes that resistance. Rage doesnt give you resistance to non-magical attacks, only specific types of attacks regardless of magical or not.

I think that's how it goes
Ki-Empowered Strikes will overcome all of the following examples:
The damage resistance of a shadow, which cares if the attack is magical.
The damage resistance of anything under the effects of stoneskin, which cares if the damage is magical.
The damage immunity of a jackalwere, which cares if the attack is magical.
Because of its highly specific wording, it will also bypass the immunity of a demilichwithout triggering its resistance.

Yes their resistance is not magical resistance it should label it as magical resistance against bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.
Essentially your strikes become magic unarmed strikes.

Oh really hm, must be because I only saw it granting that and not specifying.
