I’ve thought of creating a team that, character-wise, are inspired by the Ninja Turtles. The idea is that they each had a few levels of Monk (3-5), before multi-classing.
(NOTE: Since there have been multiple iterations of the four, my primary influences will be the original comics and the 2003 cartoon).
For the characters based on Leo and Raphael, Way of the Kensei seems the best way to go. Mike would probably work best as a Drunken Master, given him being the resident clown.
Donatello is the one I’m stuck on. For the team’s resident genius, which Tradition would you recommend (since I plan to multi him to Artificer)?

If you're allowing Critical Role content then Way of the Cobalt Soul could be a really good fit as it's somewhat knowledge based? It's also just a good sub-class IMO. There otherwise isn't really a "techy" appropriate path, but Cobalt Soul should combine decently well with Artificer I think.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
Not planning on Critical Role. I know monks aren’t exactly known for being Tony Stark, but what about the more wise/scholarly bookworm types?
Other than Cobalt Soul there isn't really an ideal sub-class for Donatello I think; you can however still have an educated Monk through your choice of background and skill proficiencies, for example the Sage background.
Not sure what the best sub-class in that case might be; the whole gang are quite weapon focused so you could almost do Way of the Kensei for them all. You might consider Way of Mercy as more of a support sub-class, it's not really techy but you could reflavour hand of harm/healing as gadgets of some kind? Maybe grab the Crusher feat to complement his use of a quarterstaff? Either that or Skill Expert to double down on out of combat utility?

I could see a reflavored Four Elements (with the spells and effects being gadget-based) working for Don, as like a proto-artificer
