For dual wielding the second weapon does not get your ability score modifier. Monks martial arts does not override that, as far as I know. It doesn’t matter if it is finesse or a monk weapon, dual wielding only gives the modifier to the second weapon if you have the Two Weapon Fighting style.
And using that second weapon uses up your bonus action for the round so no unarmed strikes or Flurry of Blows either.
I am new to 5th edition and recently built a Monk. Not sure if the following is correct.
Level 1 Monk
Human with Feat variant and takes Dual Weapon Wielder.
Monk uses Shortsword as it is considered a Monk weapon.
In combat, can I attack with both shortswords (with Dex bonus to hit as weapon has Finesse), and make an unarmed attack as a bonus action?
Hope this makes sense as I typed it.

I missed the second weapon attack being a bonus action. That clears it up. Thanks!
