I am going to be playing in a 1-20 campaign. I want to play an Autumn Eladrin. I think Autum will work well letting me fey step in charm a couple people and then use the Hour of reaping frighten ability.
I want to dip in another class though, Monk is a bit narrow for me. I really don't want to do morethan two levels. Here is a couple I was thinking of:
War Magic Wizard: Go with 13 Intelligence and grab a few slots for shield, Protection from evil and good and absorb elements and a bunch of rituals and a boost to my saves and AC on a reaction.
Bladesinger: I would go with a 14 intelligence probably, getting similar spells to war magic. I think my bonus action is going to be pretty tied up though.
Death Domain Cleric. Get a couple good necromancy cantrips, turn undead and a few 1st level spells. With a good Wisdom I can look at things like Command
Grave Domain Cleric: Like Death Domain Cleric just a little different.
Ranger: I won't be getting a subclass, but this would give Favored Foe, Expertise and some spells
Fighter: Action Surge, so I could use hour of reaping and still attack, Unarmed Fighting style, second wind
I am currently playing a wood elven Open Hand monk with 2 levels in Bladersinger wizard, and I am loving it! I was at level 9 monk when I made the decision to take the wizard multiclass, and my monk had a 14 INT at that point, which works well for Bladesinger. I am level 15 now, and like your planned campaign, we are planning to go all the way to 20.
I usually prepare the 3 defensive spells you mention, plus Disguise Self, and I collect all the rituals I can get my hands on. It has made the character very versatile, much tougher in terms of AC, and the Bladersinger really fits the elven flavor well. Have fun with it, whatever you decide!
