So I am in a group of mostly new people, yes I am aware this book is not the best for new players just learning the rules.
I decided that since I am the only one with experience other then the DM, and I knew what was in the first chapter and how much the group started with in the beginning, I would build around that. Yes I know "Metagaming is bad". But I used it as a way to build a very narrow build.
1st level was deep gnome monk using the deep delver background feature straight from the Out of the Abyss book. It pretty much Outlander but ONLY for underdark.
Now because of the fact that I know monks are OP in the beginning I multiclassed right out the gate into rogue. Now I did this not for the sneak attack, although useful, but for level 2 ability of cunning action. And we just hit level 3.
Now for my build idea was just underdark survival and scouting, and yes I know that ranger would have been better for that but we already have two rangers and I wanted to play something that didnt require items so that the new people could enjoy the loot when we start getting it.
Not I am thinking of taking the next three levels as monk for shadow monk and start monking around. I am just wondering since the book only goes to level 15, do I do a full 13 levels of monk or do I take a level or two more rogue down the line?
