DM here. I have a player who is playing a level 11 monk. He appears to be using Legacy monk as I instructed, his character sheet references Ki points not Focus points and doesn't mention any of the new monk features. However, his unarmed strike says it does a d10 for damage, not a d8. Any idea why it's doing this? He doesn't have any magic items that would alter the damage, no feats, nothing.
Ever since the 2024 core books were released, D&D Beyond has been using the 2024 Martial Arts die progression for both versions of the class. This is very frustrating, but apparently fixing it is a big deal and they haven't gotten around to it yet.
I'm seeing the issue with 2014 Monk! But my players character sheet must be referring to the old table cause it doesn't show the damage at all. When I recreated the character sheet it started using only a d4 for damage with no scaling. Then I created a whole new character and it was using a d10 at 11th, same as 2024. So I'm guessing when they attempted to eliminate 2014 for 2024 then brought it back they must have never restored the original table for it?? Messing up the core feature on a class is unacceptable especially when I'm paying for a subscription. Or just give us the ability to homebrew Classes not just subclasses. Cause I even tried home brewing the sub class to fix it.

Why can't he use 1d10?
Because they are playing with the 2014 rules.
