I am 5th level and I am considering 1 level into cleric, considering peace domain. Benefits plot and want some spells, and of course the domain features are cool with the Emboldening Bond die roll.
Peace cleric is a really powerful dip at later levels but less so whil your 0rof8ciency bonus is just 3.
On top of that you need all the ki you can get, and a way of dealing with enemies resistant to non magical damage (which are likely to get very common). Evasion and ASIs are also things you want ASAP.
I would not take the dip until at least level 9, and it might well be worth leaving it until after you have diamond soul.
It depends on what level your campaign plans on going to. Some find after 5th level, to get extra attack, is a good time to dip. Jegpeg has some good points as well for delaying it further. If you don’t have a magic weapon to use on monsters resistant to B, P, S damage and you are running into them already then getting level 6 in monk would be a good idea.
But other than that, I say go for it. You have extra attack, and if your group is typical and won’t see the higher levels, don’t wait and have fun. MCing monk is a balancing act, there are good reasons to wait and good reasons to do it early. It’s up to you to decide what the best choice is for character.
If you are doing it for character development and story then go for it. If you are looking to optimize then war cleric is also good. Divine favor (works with unarmed strikes) and shield of faith are great domain spells. Proficiency in martial weapons (for longsword) and war priest for bonus action attack with longsword or ranged weapon are all excellent for a 1 level dip.
