Cause he’s the one who has really been the focus of the Upside Down. He’s like the chosen one, but in a dark sense. He’s the only one who understands the Mind Flayer well enough to battle it on its own terms (yes I do think the Mind Flayer is coming back, same with Vecna). Also Will is the only one who’s not part of a couple, which might not mean anything but I have a feeling it does. I just feel like Will’s gonna sacrifice himself at the end of Season 5, kinda like Eddie did last season.

One thing I noticed was that Max was completely absent when Elle tried t ofind her in her mind. They said before in the series that Vecna absorbs the people that he consumed. As such, I think they will bring Vecna back to try and save max's soul from inside of him. I am also concerned that she might become the bad guy, having been tainted by vecna - or perhaps vecnas soul will come through as well, possessing her.
