I don’t totally agree with this. I like my current job, but at base bottom it’s just a job to me. It’s my hobbies (D&D, among others) that really make me happy. And the friends and loved ones in my life. My job is defo secondary. If I had really put my job first I would’ve pushed myself harder to make partner at my old job instead of leaving to find something that gave me a better work-life balance.

It's great to have someone's opinion! When I created this thread I wanted peoples thoughts on quotes, but no one seemed to comment on them, until now. Now looking back on this quote and remembering how much I love D&D, I think I agree with you.

There's a podcast where they just discussed a very similar topic. It's called Brushes and Keys. (She's a painter. He's a composer.) They were talking about doing what they love for work and doing what they love for themselves and where there is and isn't overlap. (The episode is "Artist vs. Audience". They go into other things and often go into tangents about nothing in particular and silly stuff.)
Personal experience: I hate being paid to play piano. I did that once and refused all offers afterward. I love playing piano. I know that I hate doing it as a job. Computers are boring, but it's what I can do for monetary necessities. (People make computers interesting or frustrating. Computers just do what someone told them to do. See? Boring.) I don't hate computers. I'm just not passionate about them. (Again, it's all about the people for me.)

PRAISE FOR BRANDON SANDERSON AND THE WAY OF KINGS:
"I loved this book. What else is there to say?" --- Patrick Rothfuss
"Sanderson, the author of Elantris and the Mistborn trilogy, once again creates an interesting world with a novel system of magic, but the best part of this series launch is the compelling, complex story of Dalinar, Kaladin, and Shallan as they struggle through emotional, physical, and moral challenges. Verdict: Sanderson is a master of hooking the reader in the first few pages, and once again he doesn't disappoint. Fans and lovers of epic fantasy will find the end satisfying, yet will eagerly await the next volume." ---- Library Journal
"It's rare for a fiction writer to have so much understanding of how leadership works and how love really takes root in the human heart. Sanderson is astonishingly wise." ----Orson Scott Card
"Sanderson's skill and pure narrative power did not lose me at all over the course of the time it took me to read the book or [over] the great page count he took to tell the story. Though it is a long novel. . .I can't say that it felt like a long tale. It felt epic and powerful, a story and world I was pleased to be immersed in during the entire reading experience of the novel. Sanderson has proved with his past novels he is a voice to be heard and recognized in the fantasy genre. With The Way of Kings, he stakes his claim as one of the preeminent purveyors of the fantasy genre---he will be spoken of in the same breath as Tolkien, Leiber, Moorcock, Jordan(on his own merits and not just because he is completing the wheel of time), and George R. R. Martin. I have extremely high anticipation for future volumes in this series, and despite this being the first of a multivolume series, it ends with closure. I give this book my highest recommendation and think The Way of Kings will be one of those landmark novels of epic fantasy against which future novels will always be measured." ----Rob H.
