How long has this partnership between WotC and Extra Life been going on? I’m happy about the charity, but with the Pinkerton thing, it just seems like a sus way to clear their name. I could be wrong, and my brain is just speed running the darkest interpretation.
Goes back to at least One Grung Above, which was 2017 ... if you just google WotC and Extra Life you'll find lots of dated press releases about WotC contributions to the charity.

Ok. So it’s not a recent issue gong. I renounce my suspicion.
I'm beginning to think WotC has lost it's damn mind...
I'm not sure what was going through the head of the person that hired the Pinkerton agency, or what was going through the heads of their agents who showed up at a Youtuber's home threatening arrest and legal action, but there are a million other ways this could have been solved.
Might explain a lot of the brutish nonsense going on at the company lately, eh?
(2025 EDIT: The link disappeared. Well, here's another one that also details the connection; should it also vanish, I've sent the link to the Wayback Machine... and also downloaded the HTML, just in case.
the guy not picking up his phone is not a valid excuse, you send a certified letter, then you have your lawyer send a letter, then you either sue for specific action, get local law enforcement involved or have your lawyer send their thugs... assuming neither of certified letters had the desired outcome because the person was willfully withholding your property. You definitely have to confirm that they are refusing to return your stuff before you go with any of the "nuclear options".
Did you seriously just necro a two year old post? Why? Besides, the guy who got Pinkertoned changed his story multiple times, and he never sued WotC for anything. Had he really been somehow in the right, he would have at least threatened with a lawsuit. But he never did.

That's not how that works. Failure to sue (or to threaten to sue) is NOT some sort of proof of being in the wrong... *especially* (but not only) considering we're talking about an average citizen here, not some mega-corp.
Normally, I would agree with you. But when he finally settled on a story, it was clear that what he described was assault and invasion of personal property. That's not a kind of thing you just let go if you did nothing wrong.

Yes, some people (really, *plenty* of people) do, especially when intimidated. Whether they should is a different matter entirely.
I get some people thinking, "yeah, some corporation messes with me, I'll SUE their butts in a hot minute!" But imagining everyone thinks that way is completely unrealistic.

What's going on is, at least a couple WotC execs are former Pinkertons themselves. (Bottom of the article - https://news.yahoo.com/magic-raid-wasnt-first-time-162558008.html)
