On this next “Update” / One D&D? I’m actually very sure that at the least I’ll be waiting a year to update, even if the new system allays my fears and really sells itself, but an even bigger concern for me is: how will DDB handle the prior version so many of us know and love? I’m not a fan (at all) of DDB adding a “Legacy” tag to my original 5e Books. It would be better and more respectful to have some kind of toggle between the two versions, or even go to a different page when looking at Sources and Tools. But depending, I “might” be able to handle it. Maybe. I’m still very anxious about this whole thing. So I’m curious: for those of us that still love playing Fantasy TTRPG’S what alternate systems might you recommend, what systems are you possibly even considering?
The game works just fine without Beyond. Arguably it works better, in fact.
I've been wanting to try Mausritter, Lancer, and the Dying Earth RPG. Would a hypothetical D&D Beyond crash cause me to find a group for any of those games? Probably not. But a girl can dream, I guess.

Gotcha, thank you. As a digital player now, would you recommend any of those as being more accessible for playing online?

Nope. I think Lancer's community has developed some cool tools for character creation but I'm not really involved at all so I can't say much. (The theming on that game is VERY different from D&D though. And it's pretty deeply integrated into it. You're not gonna be reskinning Lancer into a medieval fantasy game.)
Edit: The only reason I mentioned it was that I misread your post lol. It is still a gridded party tactics game with a rules-light social pillar and individual PC progression paths and modular equipment. So I suspect there's some real overlap in interest between the two games. But it doesn't really fit the thread.

I'd play 5e.

I lean towards pathfinder. I have a few starter games using 5e, but my main campaigns now are with pathfinder 2nd edition.
Fate. It's less crunch focused and is designed to play out more like a comic book, and actual creativity is rewarded for both players and GMs.
It's what I think will work for my group. Not for everyone, though.
Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.
