I need to go on a diet or die, according to my parents. I'm working on a new story, but I'm not certain what I need to change and what to develop. I have a plot outline, but I need to continue building characters and a power system and such. It's the classic team-up between a cannibalistic-yet-sympathetic serial killer and a naive police investigator, the former learning to hope while the latter learns that he actually lives in a dystopia and needs to do more than the bare minimum if he wants things to get better.

My triglycerides (blood fat, basically) are at somewhere around 460-480. The healthy level is sub-150. This could harden my arteries, increase my risk for dementia, or destroy my pancreas as I get older. Generally bad news, especially since a destroyed pancreas means you kind of die over the course of days in terrible agony.
Have you read H.G. Wells' The Time Machine? Where on the surface there are the happy Eloi and belowground are the Morlocks who maintain the machinery that keep the world running? Imagine that combined with Bioshock. Up top, it's an idyllic city filled with wealthy people who worship the machines and systems that keep them safe. Those who maintain the systems live below as a literally lower caste of laborers who keep society running through constant innovation and cannibalizing the machines that allow the people up top to live. Biotech is a huge things, human lives are massively devalued, and the surface-dwellers can pay a fee to be resurrected, assuming their brain can be recovered. It doesn't have to be intact, just there.
