On friday i had my session. My party occasionally calls me "god" jestingly, since my position of DM makes me the god of my fictional world they all play in. But every time it happened this particular session, I raised my arms and began loudly humming, in the most resonant voice I could muster, the theme from Hereditary.(skip to 1:50 for the motif i hummed) Needless to say, the reactions ranged from amused to unbothered to downright dismayed by the flashbacks that theme offered. Before you can stop them, the DM's eyes gain that look again. The look of power. Their haunting melody once again fills the air, their arms rising in an almost ethereal fashion. It becomes blindingly obvious now, you sit here in worship of the arbitrary will of an appointed sovereign. This time, the song seems longer, the refrain repeated twice. Yet slowly, your god's arms lower once more, their song ending on a low note that rattles your very soul.
