Im making lore for pseudo zombies in my cyberpunk campaign and i ve got some but some advice would be nice to fill in the blanks.
here it is
The infection is primarily bloodborne, but can be transferred if a zombie attacks with the intent to turn their victim. If they have that intent, the enzymes that transmit the disease will flood into their saliva so that their bite turns the victim.
At first all that happens is swelling around the wound. Then, it slowly turns necrotic, turning the flesh around the wound black. This is accompanied by nausea, fever, and muscle spasms, along with extreme fatigue. Next, the bite victim will become pale and cold, and their heart rate will slow. All of the flu-like symptoms go away, and the bite victim will claim to feel good as new. However, this is the metaphorical eye of the storm. Following the brief burst of health, the victim's extremities will begin to darken, eventually turning black. It's harder to notice in victims with very dark skin, but in those cases, you can determine this by examining the palms and nail beds, as well as the general hue of their skin. At this time, the victim's heart will fully stop beating, but they will still remain in a state of pseudo-life. Additionally, their irises will also turn black. When all of their extremities and eyes have fully turned black, a zombie is considered fully turned. They retain their mind and sense of self, however, which makes it more difficult for them if their community shuns them.
The myth that zombies survive on eating human flesh is exactly that: a myth. Zombies can only eat fresh raw meat. Any other food will turn their stomachs, causing them to vomit. Though this meat can be of any kind, in large cyberpunk dystopian cities, raw meat is hard to find. The most readily available form of raw meat, however, is human. This is what perpetuates the myth.
Being a zombie is difficult. Their eyes are hypersensitive to light, and they are always cold. Not to mention, if a zombie chooses not to eat its fellow man, it will essentially starve, never dying but being forced to live in a constant state of weakness and starvation. A hungry zombie is prone to fainting spells, muscle weakness, and nausea, as well as panic attacks and other forms of emotional overstimulation. It has been observed that some of a zombie's symptoms when they do not eat mimic the symptoms of a human with hypoglycemia who hasn't eaten. Zombies also need more sleep than living humans, and they can and will sleep anywhere.
