So in the vein of other anime power systems like Haki or Cursed Energy, the system is called Flux, and is the energy of the change that everything undergoes over time. The Flux of every individual substance/element manifests as an organ/tumor-like, semi-living artifact called an Incarnate, which can physiologically 'bond’ with multicellular organisms. Incarnates change their forms upon bonding with a person, depending on how they have bonded, becoming either Feasted or Grafted Incarnates. A Feasted Incarnate, having been consumed by the Flux user in question, will possess the memories of all past Flux users who bonded with it. On occasion, the current Flux user will be sent into a dreamlike state in which they live out the memories of past users, called a ‘reverie feast’. Grafted Incarnates are attached to the user’s exterior, and while one can avoid reverie feasts, one’s Flux manipulation will be more… detached, so to speak. Additionally, Grafted Incarnates can be torn off the body with mundane physical action. Either way, every Incarnate has eminence over a substance, from something as powerful as karma, wind, or iron, to something as minor as a specific subspecies of cactus.
There are three forms of Flux manipulation: Ebb, Flow, and Phase. Ebb is the ability to use Flux to destroy the substance one has eminence over, and manifests with the onset of negative emotions. Flow is the ability to use Flux to create the substance one has eminence over, and manifests with the onset of positive emotions. Finally, Phase is the ability to change the state of the substance one has eminence over, and manifests with the onset of neutral emotions.
It is possible to split or break an Incarnate and allow multiple people to use its Flux, but this can often cause only certain types of Flux manipulation to be possible for those who are bonded to a divided Incarnate. Additionally, when one Flux user bonded to a piece of a divided Incarnate dies, that piece immediately rejoins with the nearest Flux user with a divided Incarnate, regardless of whether or not it was originally attached to the divided piece. Divided Incarnates are volatile, and though the ability to manipulate the Flux of multiple substances is a useful one, it can cause harm to the user if they overuse their powers.
There is a serious debate among scholars in the Flux user community regarding the origin of Incarnates. Some believe them to simply be a curious organism that has achieved a perfect form of symbiosis over billions of years of evolution. Others postulate that Incarnates originate from beyond Earth. Plenty also believe that Incarnates have a divine origin.
