They said something about it ‘not being normal for Apollo kids to resurrect things’ and that ‘He should be teaching the other Apollo kids how to heal, he’s the quickest and best medic we’ve ever had.’ Cal sheepishly says, trying not to come off as bragging.
"That's really great. We always need more medics. There's been... a murder problem lately."
“I stayed up late last night, still thinking about how I resurrected that little bird. I’ve wanted to see if it works on, well, demigods, but I feel so tired just from all the healing I’ve done. Have there been a deaths lately? Is it really that bad?”
"Stay safe. Hades doesn't like people bringing back the dead. And yeah, it's bad. Evan told me Dan found a dead octopus on the beach, and worse, there have been dead campers. Most we know the cause of... probably Clover, but everyone is too scared to approach her about it."
“Can you.. lead me to the..campers? I want to try, even if it takes a lot out of me.”
"No." Kota says firmly. "Do you know the story of Asclepius?"
“No?”
"He was also a son of Apollo. Figured out how to cure death. Hades... punished him. Apollo let him ascend under the condition he would never cure the dead again."
“Then I probably shouldn’t try to do anything like that, right? I don’t know, all of the things that have been happening after I came here are just..confusing, especially the things with you in them” Cal says, trying to make sense of not only the story but also what’s happening with him and Kota.
"Yeah... Um. There's a library here... We have some mythology if you want to learn. I can also fill you in on recent events."
“Can I just… stay with you, here, for a bit? And talk? I’m not really ready for anything, I feel like I don’t know about anything here, and for the time being just being with you is all my brain can really process.” Cal leans towards Kota, making sure not to get too close.
"Uh-okay... Sure."
Cal ends up falling asleep, still holding hands with Kota while leaning back against a tree.
