“Now, as I was saying, heroes are powerful in the heart. That is what makes a hero worthy of a song. I am the hero to sing these songs, not to be in these songs. Do you think you are a hero worthy of a song, friend?”
"Well, calling me a hero would be a bit of a stretch, but there are most definitely songs made about me, that's for sure!"
“Oh! May I hear one! I love songs!” He grins, relieved to have changed the subject.
"Oh, I wouldn't know any off the top of my head... but if I happen to remember any, I will tell you..."
“Thank you! You’re very kind.”
"Why thank you, Duan. You are kind as well."
“Well, you know what heroes are, they’re kind.”
"That they are... that they are."
“Well! Would you like to hear a song about a villain? I have plenty of those.” He winks.
"Sure... That might be amusing."
“This will absolutely blow your mind.” He starts to play by warming up his fingers, playing random cords that are somehow still melodic.
“Long long ago, there was a land, a desert so dry, covered in sand. In the village there was a boy, but maybe not a boy, maybe a toy. The sand grew high, the water grew less, the boy knew he would have to go on a fateful test. To get the water he went, telling those he met for his family he was sent.”
The being nods along, listening.
“He traveled so far to save his friends, but every good thing must meet its ends. The boy was good, his heart was true, but he became vengeful after not attaining even a drop of dew. He found a place, with water fresh, and carved a river made of the citizen’s flesh. He brought his town, but on him they looked down, and he was left alone, with only a river of blood.”
The being laughs, smiling with mirth.
Duan laughs nervously. “Well, I did not intend to make anyone laugh with that tale, but thank you, thank you!”
"No, no, that was a good tale... Where did you learn it from?"
“The library of Macca! Me and a few others went down there a while ago for some stories, and I was able to turn a few into songs. Macca used to be a place where people could send all their records safely. That was before the fall.”
"Oh... could you take me to this... library...?"
“It’s within the city. Do you really want to go there?”
"Oh... shadow's aren't that hard to deal with."
“Well, for you they probably aren’t. But for me? So hard.”
"... I suppose so... you do seem rather... fragile..."
"Hey! I'm normal!"

If I’m being annoying, tell me to shut up. Seriously. Just say “Bananer shut up.” And I will. For a few seconds!
Don’t listen to the folks down at Adohands. It’s good for me to overwork myself.

A lone figure stands outside the gates of the city, leaning on a mahogany cane alit with flickering flames, somewhat obscured by all the pollution and smog. A hand raises into the air in greeting.

Duan rummages around through the cabinets of the tavern before he finds a piece of paper, a quill, and a pot of ink. He carefully begins to scratch out an outline of the city, circling a few areas and writing what they are. There’s the center palace, the library, and the main square. “The main square is especially dangerous. Shadows love to flock there as that’s where most people show up.” Duan explains as he continues to write. The map comes out a bit smudged, but intact and simple to read. Duan must be an artist as well as a singer to have that kind of skill, or maybe like he said, he has an excellent memory. “There are maps inside the city as well, probably better than mine, and there are definitely some in the library. Take one if you see one.”
