Hello everyone. I'm making a paladin but can't come up with an oath. He is a white dragonborn with the Oath of Devotion. I'm thinking of he is going after people who slay dragons for sport or profit and protecting his ancestry (also in this world dragons are rare). Can anybody help me?
In a typical D&D setting white dragons are among the evil set of chromatic dragons, not innocent creatures hunted by greedy mortals, but vicious elemental predators that take pleasure in tormenting any mortal communities in their territory. A good aligned white dragonborn might thus choose to build their identity not around protecting their distant draconic relatives from humanoid attacks but rather the other way around, standing up to evil dragons, particularly evil white dragons, and protecting innocent civilians from them. Alternatively, you might consider going for Silver heritage rather than White.
That all assumes generic D&D rules about dragon alignments. If your game is an atypical setting where any dragon type might have any alignment (eberron) or a homebrew setting where each dragon is unique and they don't come in distinct color coded species, then you don't need to worry about it.
You don't necessarily need an individualized 'oath' either. The Oath of Devotion are the tenets of the subclasses. Those are what you're expected to swear to and uphold.
It depends. If you are seeking to honor your ancestry, the oath of glory is a good choice. If you are seeking to avenge your ancestry, oath of vengeance is another option.
