I'm playing as an Oath of Devotion Half-Elf Paladin that just hit level 8 after the fight with Baba Lysaga. I've been chosen by the team to use the Sunsword, and I have 16 strength, 10 dexterity, 14 constitution, 10 intelligence, 12 wisdom, and 16 charisma. Baba jumped in her skull and spent most of the fight 25 feet up making me useless for damage after my javelins were used up. Now that the last ASI has come up I'm a little unsure how to use it, and I was wondering if I could get a second opinion on the options I'm mulling over
Sentinel: The DM isn't fond of backing up without disengaging (Which is fair) meaning I don't get to use my reaction very often. With Sentinel, I'd potentially be getting an extra attack every turn to get more use of the Sunsword, and keeping some of the heat off my allies
Charisma plus 2: I'm happy enough with my melee damage from the Sunsword and Dueling style so I was looking at making my spells a little better. It also has the benefit of making my aura of protection better to support my team (Given all three like to play up close too)
Magic initiate: After the fight with Baba I felt like a new range option might be wise. I don't know if I'm likely to fight many more flying enemies, but I do know that vampires can spider climb. In particular, I was looking at Sorcerer with Fire Bolt, Lightning Lure (Pull them off the walls?) and maybe shield. I was also considering Warlock for Eldritch Blast, Lightning Lure, and undecided on the spell. I'd considered Cleric for flavor too, but my wisdom is pretty poor which works against it
My party includes a Circle of the Moon Druid (Favors melee as a bear or wolf), a Hunter Ranger (Prefers twin wielding silver shortswords, with a backup longbow), and an Eldritch Knight Fighter (Greatsword with Fire Bolt backup, poor luck with attack rolls!) all also at level 8. Any thoughts or alternative options would be appreciated =)
After I've taken another look at the Sun Blade, I learned that it has the ability to shed sunlight to a pretty decent range. In another question, does the Sunsword share this ability? Just curious as the Sunsword in the character sheet lists the damage and bonuses but not the light ability
If it does share it then that makes my choice a lot easier, and I'll probably choose between the +2 Cha or sentinel!
(Also maybe worth mentioning, the DM has said that this campaign will end with us at level 10, so this is the last ASI this character will get)
The Sunsword shares the properties of a sun blade, so the Sunsword will shed sunlight.
Since this will be your last ASI for the rest of the campaign, would you rather have more options for your character (Sentinel), or would you rather do what you already do better (+2 CHA)?

I'd say ASI to either Str or Cha; probably Cha. I tend to go for the max-out on pallys and Charisma. It essentially makes you proficient in all saves.

Went with sentinel in the end and got some use out of it in yesterday's session Thanks for the input =)
