The Savage Frontier (also known as the North) is a cold, rugged, sparsely populated land of snow-capped mountains, rocky hills, sprawling forests, and foggy vales. Isolated strongholds, ancient burial mounds, and the ruins of many forgotten empires dot this vast landscape. Bounded by the Sea of Swords to the west and the desert of Anauroch to the east, the Savage Frontier extends as far north as Icewind Dale and as far south as the town of Daggerford. Old roads stretch across this great expanse, linking the dwarven strongholds and mines in the mountains to the coastal settlements, frontier towns, and fortified outposts of humans and other folk. These roads are long, lonely, or poorly defended, making them dangerous to traverse. In fertile valleys, towns and cities have sprung up, separated by dozens if not hundreds of miles of untamed wilderness haunted by bandits, barbarians, and monsters.
Evil dragons stirred into action by their dark queen, Tiamat, threatened the settlements of the Savage Frontier for a time. Ultimately, they were defeated and forced to withdraw to their lairs, while Tiamat was banished to the Nine Hells. Fear of the dragons’ wrath has faded quickly with the coming of a new threat: giants. The peoples of the North are no strangers to giant incursions. Frost giants have long claimed the Spine of the World as their demesne, and hill giants are known to scrounge for food in the untamed hills. But now, in the past couple of months, giants of every kind have emerged from their strongholds in force to threaten civilization as never before — and not just frost giants and hill giants, but also stone giants, fire giants, and cloud giants. All of the giants are in an uproar. Reports of giant attacks throughout the North have reached the coastal cities of Luskan, Neverwinter, and Waterdeep, stoking fears that the giants are waging war against humans, dwarves, elves, and other small folk.

Arisa, Vhuman arcana cleric of Mystra: NG Background: Hermit
Raised in isolation and living on her own as a feral child and then adopted by an elderly hermit cleric, the death of her adoptive mother led her to discover a horrible secret that she must enter the broader world to address. (Details campaign specific, up to dm)
A beautiful but extremely shy human girl in her 20’s, she speaks little, as one who is not accustomed to company. Belkas is haunted by the terrible things that occurred when he became a warlock. He has tried to bury it and run away from it, to no avail. It sometimes comes to him as a shadow on the wall, a bloodcurdling nightmare, a memory that refuses to die, or a demonic whisper in the dark.
Description:
Belkas stands just under 6 feet tall. He is thin and pale, with intense dark green eyes and dark brown hair. He has tattoos of infernal runes running up his arms that appeared the day he received his magic, and his powers seem to flow out of them.
Backstory:
At Belkas' birth, his elven father promised the newborn's soul to a demon. His mother died during the ritual, and his father fled, leaving the cursed child to grow up with his mother's human family. They hated and resented the half-elf, and he became quick and stealthy to avoid the other children's torments.
A strong band of orcs moved into the territory when Belkas was an adolescent. His family traded him and other less desirable community members to the orcs in return for peace. They, in turn, traded him to denizens of the Underdark. Used for exploring and cleaning out old mines, Belkas discovered a statuette of the demon lord Glasya. He begged her for help. On a whim, she appeared to him, and liking the force of character, she decided to help him. First, she showed him how to break the weakly formulated agreement that previously held his soul. She then convinced him to pledge his soul to her in return for occult powers and a way to escape his captivity. Having nothing to lose and everything to gain, Belkas accepted. Later that day, when he was sleeping, she appeared, killing all the guards and other prisoners in terrible ways. Horrified at the massacre, he made his way to the surface of the Sword Coast, where he hides from agents of the Underdark who he fears may pursue him.
While not evil himself, Belkas is both enraptured of, and horrified by, his patron Glasya.

A young bow starving in the harsh winter of ten towns on the verge of death a mysterious woman comes to his rescue. Alone Richard survived a few days with what his dad left him but soon he was on the streets begging for coins. Years would past and the two were know to help folks in need. They had heard of the recent giant attacks but at the time the attacks were just rumors. One night however thing would change for Richard. A sudden attack of fire giants began, his master was on the front line helping those to escape. Richard stood side by side but as a novice without his own spell book he couldn’t do much. Then a sudden boulder came flying into a near by house knocking him unconscious. When Richard awoke the town was ruined, and his master was gone. The only thing he had was a book she kept, instead of being sad he was frustrated by his own weakness. Determined to find his master he began to study putting different formulas and theories into it. She wasn’t able to teach him a school a magic but she did teach him the theories behind magic as a whole. He would use this knowledge and save the woman that saved him all those years ago!

She displays her noble birth through the fine clothes she wears underneath her armor, which has the family crest emblazoned over the heart. She is friendly, and smiles often. backstory: Elzni's father was the useless son of some minor noble, who was always trying to rebel. One day he decided to marry some orc woman he came across, expecting to horrify his father. Ten months into that marriage, after a Elzni had been born, the man got tired of his wife, especially since her hunting skills had endeared her to his father. He eventually ran off to seek glory and left Elzni with her mother and grandparents in the family's keep. Elzni had a decent life, filled with love, toys, and candy. Her grandfather and mother treated her well, and even her grandmother came to like her, because Elzni had a certain amount of charm. Elzni was very content, with the exception of one thing. Her grandparents would tell her stories of great mages and the spells they could cast, and she wanted to be like them. She spent many years fantasizing about traveling the world looking for magical secrets and using spells to defeat evil things. One day, while searching through the keep library for a book related to spells, a voice spoke to Elzni. It said it had noticed her in the library, searching for magical knowledge, and that it could teach her magic. All she had to do was agree to help it from time to time whenever it asked. Elzni happily agreed to help the voice if it would teach her magic. The voice then started instructing her, and granted her magical powers. Little did Elzni realize that she had made a pact with a devil. Now that she has a little magic, Elzni travels. She wants to help people where she can, and her magic might actually let her do that. Recently she has heard that giants are causing trouble, and she is looking to see what she can do to help.
Meet Osmord. He is not evil, he is just misunderstood.
The swamp stirs. Soft soupy ripples creep outward, causing cold water to lap against the muddy bank. A toad croaks in fright and leaps into the water as a dark shape breaks the surface. Fetid swamp weed clings to the great shell as it emerges from the depths, growing ever closer to the shore. Osmord blinks away water as his ancient head emerges, and as he slowly clambers up onto damp ground. He blows putrid liquids unceremoniously from each nostril. Reaching into his shell he produces the old bone walking stick that serves him so well before making his tired way between the withered black trees.
He soon spies the damp hollow he calls home. There is no roof here, he carries that with him, neither is there furniture or anything else most would associate with a dwelling. Osmord mumbles something under his breath and a small campfire in the centre of the hollow springs to life. Continuing his litany of unholy words the fire blazes and darkness seems to cover the hollow like a shroud. Satisfied, Osmord makes his way to the fire and sits, drawing yet another item from his shell. A book.
Silently he leaf's through the damp pages, all the time muttering under his breath. At last with a heavy sigh he sets the book aside. This swamp had taught him all it could and the passage of time was as ever relentless. If he was to master his arts and truly become a necromancer of great power then he would need to leave this place. He would need to place himself in the way of harm and seek knowledge in the wider world. It would be a dangerous undertaking, there was much ignorance out there regarding his kind and even more regarding his craft. He grimaces at the thought.
Just then a raven enters the hollow, releasing a startling cry. Osmord cocks his head to one side studying the bird and then with a quick grasping motion he reaches out and conjures a ghostly skeletal hand which sinks it fingers into the raven and ends its life in a screech of agony. The corpse hits the ground with a thud and Osmord reaches over to pick it up.
"And so I will go..." Osmord murmurs before biting into his meal.
