The frontier town of Phandalin is built on the ruins of a much older settlement. Hundreds of years ago, the old Phandalin was a thriving human town whose people were firmly allied with neighboring dwarves and gnomes. Then an orc horde swept through the area and laid waste to the settlement, and Phandalin was abandoned for centuries.
In the last three or four years, settlers from the cities of Neverwinter and Waterdeep have begun the hard work of reclaiming the ruins of Phandalin. The new settlement is home now to farmers, woodcutters, fur traders, and prospectors drawn by stories of gold and platinum in the foothills of the Sword Mountains. The arrival of a white dragon threatens to destroy all that they've worked to rebuild.

Zalmanni’s elven father died at their home in the mountains from wounds sustained from an Orc raid hence their favored enemy status. On his 18th birthday, Zalmanni’s human mother gave him his birthright, his father’s chain shirt and his cloak, the only two remaining possession she had of her late husband. Travelling for what seemed like an age, he had headed north finally reaching Neverwinter. Never had he seen such a town and quickly decided to stay. He found work as a labourer due to his strength but instead of remaining in Neverwinter, his employer sent him to some backwater town, Phandalin.

The small town is thriving but not as much as it could be and less than it should be: Some wares have vanished from the town and the authorities in Neverwinter are worried, though not much. For this reason only a single investigator is sent to inquire about the situation, an investigator who even just finished training.
When Jairo was young he admired his father for what he did. Being a City Guard he gained his sons respect for keeping the city of Neverwinter safe and it was clear for him that he wanted to step into his fathers footsteps. This became even clearer when his father was killed on duty during a convoluted bank robbery. Now he wanted to do this even more to honor his Father, tho his mother now was heavily opposed to it, but her stayed stubborn and entered training to become a city guard. His sharp mind and swift eye quickly made clear that his potential was wasted and he was put into espionage programm which he finished successfully.

Her whole life, all Laila ever wanted was to be a fairy princess.
Every day she'd have tea with the Fairy Queen and talk about it. Mamma made the Fairy Queen for Laila's birthday, and she was the most special friend Laila had. They'd have tea and talk about everything. Sometimes Neeka would jump onto their little table and knock the teacups off the table and Laila would shout, "No, Neeka! Go chase mice!" and sometimes Neeka would leave and sometimes she would just sit on the table and look at Laila and lick her paws. Neeko was a bad kitty sometimes. But eventually he would leave and the Fairy Queen would wave her magic wand and clean up all the tea.
Then the dragon came. Lots of people were being brought to Mamma to be fixed up. Mamma's a great fixer - she even lets Laila help sometimes. Laila's especially good at mixing. But lots and lots of people needed fixing because of the mean dragon. Then someone died. Mamma couldn't help them.
That night when Laila snuggled the Fairy Queen to sleep she asked and asked and asked her to help her get rid of the mean dragon. When she woke up, the Fairy Queen was gone - and instead Laila was snuggling a wand! It was purple with a pink star, just like Laila always knew it would be. And then later she heard that some people had come to take care of the dragon - and she knew.
Laila is based on an adorable 4yo. She'll be played as such, though with the understanding that this is a game that others are trying to enjoy, too. No meltdowns. She's not the kind of adventurer the others will want on their team, either; she may have to tag along unwanted until the others finally give up on getting rid of her and accept her.

Never one to shy away from challenges, Stone grew quickly to local prominence for mastery of forms. Years passed until Stone believed he had learned all he could from his isolated home. He gathered his few possessions and set out into the world.

Ailas Traren is an older slight appearing elf with dusty white hair. Most of his younger years were spent as a local guard in Waterdeep but while he exceled in the physical demands of the job he grew bored with the monotony and following orders. Searching for a better way to apply both his brain and body he started a private investigating business. The challenge of solving crimes and the occasional scuffle brought out the best in him and he thrived in the work.
Unfortunately, his talent as an investigator often put him at odds with his old partners in the guard. Eventually they grew tired of his melding and drove him out of town. Disheartened to leave Waterdeep, he decided to take his talents and business to the up and coming town of Phandalin hoping he could do some good and continue to push his abilities.

Mugatur is a half-orc born to a half-orc father, and an orcish mother. Mugatur never really had much of a rough upbringing, growing up in a large house on the outside Daggerford with himself as an only child with several paternal relatives living with him at the large family house. Muga was a very decent student, great athlete, and had pleasant demeanor that won the favor of many he met. In his teenage years, Mugatur enjoyed the fruits of youth hanging out with a group of ruffians who regularly got into trouble, much to his parents dismay. Done with his schooling and passing his trial into adulthood, his parents started to fear their only son had no plans in life and was going to turn to a life of crime in Daggerford. They would send the young man off with an uncle who captained a trade ship, hoping the experience gave the young man some aim in life.
Traveling upon the trade ship, Mugatur would befriend his fellow crew as easily as his peers in Daggerford. They taught him the ways of sailing, playing music, and occupying yourself with life at sea, his closest friend being the Chaplin of the ship who worshipped Umberlee. For two years, Mugatur would befriend a group of scholars who traveled with the crew and would learn the ways of the magic and orientation. By the end of his 8 year voyage, Mugatur was a full-fledged sailor with a new lease on life, and newfound knowledge. For his efforts working upon his ship, his uncle left him a stipend for 8 years to live comfortably on his own. With this stipend, Mugatur used this new lease on life to travel north to find his own destiny.

Background: Archeologist
Backstory:
Joslyn grew up amongst the ruins and tombs of ancient people and religions, and she loved every minute of it. Her early years were spent running around and playing tag with the other children her parent’s colleagues would bring with them. The first discovery she ever made was during one of these games, a large red egg that didn’t seem to be in any nest or have any birds watching it. Holding it in her hands, it felt warm, as if there was something alive inside of it. She hid it from her parents, not wanting them to take it away so they could return it to where she found it. Even if nothing ever hatched from it, it was such a pretty color that she wanted to keep it. It never hatched, but every once and a while when she shook it it felt like their was still something in there, something that was still growing.
As she got older, she started to help with the work, and developed a friendship with four of her parent’s closest colleagues’ children who started to do the same. The five of them became very skilled at delving into the delicate parts of ruins to observe and document the things they found there. As they grew into adulthood, they started work on their own sites and digs. They followed the rule their parents always told them when they were young though, ‘You should leave what you found where you found it, but if it’s not safe there, take it to a museum.’ So the five of them continued to explore ruins, taking the more dangerous magical artifacts to the museum for them to hold and do their own investigations on. They started taking on other types of jobs though. On occasion, thieves would break into the museum and steal artifacts. Joslyn and her friends (now known as the Wanderers (name a WIP)) would be hired by those museums to locate the artifacts and either return them to the museum, or take it back to the site it was found at.
One night, Joslyn and the Wanderers were met by a noble. He offered them a substantial amount of gold to hunt down the thieves guild who had broken into his home and steal the orb that had been taken from his collection. He didn’t care what they did with it, just that it was out of the hands of those thieves. After a long discussion, they agreed. They tracked down the thieves and broke into the warehouse they were sure the orb was being stored in. Joslyn and Ayre snuck in through the roof and found it hidden amongst a stack of crates. Ayre reached out to grab it, but Joslyn’s hand stopped it as she stared at the orb. Besides the returning things to where you found them, her parents had one more rule. If something looks cursed and feels cursed, don’t touch it. And this orb felt wrong to her. The two of them dug through boxes looking for something to hold it in, and that’s where their mistake was made. A box shifted the wrong way and went crashing to the ground, and after a moment of breath being held, the two of them started to hear footsteps heading quickly up the stairs. Running out of time, Joslyn quickly bundled the orb up in her shirt and the two of them booked it to the agreed upon meeting site. After a brief recap of the nights events, they found a small box amongst their possessions to put the orb in. They made their way to the site the noble claimed the artifact was found at, and deposited it somewhere deep inside where hopefully no one would be able to find it.
Something still must have gone wrong though, because in the next few nights Joslyn began to have strange nightmares. Dreams she couldn’t remember. And a strange arcane ability she never had before began to manifest as well. Everyone else noticed it too, and so it was decided that they would split up and try to seek out what exactly that orb was. To return to their favorite ruins in a year with anything that they found, and to see if Joslyn was getting better.

Brikabrak is a young man who comes from a colony of Kobolds in the mountains surrounding Phandalin. Although it was the way of his people to work together for the benefit of the colony, Brikabrak was always away and on his own, exploring the deep tunnels or outside climbing mountains or getting lost in the alpine forests. Because of his lack of help, he was in danger of being exiled from the colony, but his few friends worried about him living out on his own, so they devised a plan to to have Brikabrak help the colony by joining a nearby friendly druid circle. As a druid, he would safeguard the mountains in which the colony lived, protecting the colony while allowing Brikabrak to be out in nature.
The circle agreed and Brikabrak became a druid. He was still an apprentice when that circle was destroyed by an encroaching white dragon. His masters were killed and Brikabrak swore to continue his duty by ridding the area of the dangerous dragon. He knows his colony is not up to this task, so he heads to Phandalin to warn the townsfolk and find help.

Name: Skorli Bonebreak Race: Hill Dwarf Class: Cleric
Ability scores: 121311111512
Description: Skorli is a stocky young dwarf, about 4' 4", and 200 lb. His hair and beard are red, and his skin ruddy. His bulbous nose makes his dark eyes look squinty. His beard is braided with silver bands engraved with tiny crescent moons. He wears heavy armor under his priestly robes, which are a shimmering white color, and seem to repel all dirt and stains.
Skorli was orphaned very young, and taken into an orphanage run by priestesses of the Moon Goddess. Growing up in that setting, he frequently got into fights with bullies and other delinquents. Once, he lost his temper and gave an older dwarf such a thrashing that his opponent's arm was broken. That day, Skorli earned a month of nothing but gruel to eat, and his surname.
Over time, the gentle priestesses were able to tame Skorli's aggressive instincts, and teach him to follow a holier path. Feeling shame for the many injuries he had caused in the past, Skorli began a new path studying the healing arts, and how to draw upon divine power to mend flesh and knit bone. At last, when he was too old for the orphanage, the priestesses bid him to go into the world and find his place, although he would always be welcome to return for a (short) visit. They also delivered to him a small chest that they had kept since his childhood, that contained all that remained of his family heritage.
While searching through these keepsakes, Skorli discovered a letter that had been written to his mother from a cousin of hers. He had invited her and her family to visit him in the village of Phandalin. Skorli makes his way there searching for remnants of family.
As an infant Aelyn was left at the doorstep of the Moonsong tavern of Neverwinter with a simple note reading "His name is Aelyn please take care of him until I return." But no one ever returned. Young Aelyn was always found listening to the songs and stories told at the tavern, stories about magic and adventure. Aelyn was eventually dragged into the criminal underworld of Neverwinter and found a trade as a con artist helping himself and others less fortunate to some of the wealth of the citys nobility. In a recent less than successful heist Aelyn came into possession of a strange deck of cards which turned out to be a mischievous sentient entity granting Aelyn eldritch powers. After the heist Aelyn decided to lay low for a while in the frontier town of Phandalin. But adventure was never far away.
(The deck of cards would be a variant of the Archfey patron where the deck also would serve as an arcane focus if that´s ok.)

(The deck of cards would be a variant of the Archfey patron where the deck also would serve as an arcane focus if that´s ok.)
