The Chronicles of Erradon - Out of Character(OOC) Posting Guidelines
When Posting on the Game Thread, please post In Character(IC) actions only. If you must post an OOC message in regards to what is happening, please do so inside parenthesis. Example: Bertrum walks along the corridor, searching for traps.(DM, what should I roll for this?) - Any OOC questions not pertaining directly to the situation at hand in the Game Thread should be posted in this OOC thread instead, or may be sent to the DM as a Private Message.
If the Party is split, please precede your post with the current location of your character. Example: Bertrum is in the Inn, Cora is in the General Store. When Cora's player posts, she should put "General Store" at the top of the post, and then continue on with the post as normal.
If rolled checks are required, please put them at the end of the post, and describe what the check is being rolled for. Example: Bertrum walks along the corridor, searching for traps. Perception Check: 16 searching for traps
When situations require round structure(normally combat, but not exclusively so), the DM will call for an initiative roll. The player will then create a post containing only the initiative roll, without description of character actions. Those will be handled during their character's turn in the round.
In combat, your turn consists of your character's movement and action. There are Free Actions available, as well as Bonus Actions that can be triggered by certain spells or class features, and movement can be split by the actions your character takes( Please see Movement and Actions ). When completing a post describing your character's actions during combat, please use the following format: Description of what the character is doing. Movement: Free Action: Action: Bonus Action:
Example: Bertrum runs into the middle of the room, throws his dagger at the goblin, and then hides behind the pillar. While there, he takes a moment to gather his strength. Movement: 15' toward the center of the room Free Action: Draw Weapon, Dagger Action: Attack - Throwing Dagger at Goblin 1: 24 Damage: 5 Movement: Using remaining 15' to get behind the pillar Bonus Action: Using Feature, Second Wind - Gaining 5 hp
When your character is speaking, please differentiate the text with a color change. Example: Cora lifts her glass. "And here's to another job done." She takes a long swallow of the wine then, and returns the glass to the table.
Please refer to the following thread on instructions for how to use the forum's dice roller: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/play-by-post/2985-rolling-dice I do not foresee any reason we might need anything beyond the dice rolling tool, but instructions are given to manually enter your rolls, if you prefer.
Alright, well that's about it for posting protocol. Good luck, and have fun!
Introduction to the Kingdom of Erradon, the Duchy of Oristand, the village of Colbrook
Colbrook lies within the Duchy of Oristand, which itself lies within the Kingdom of Erradon. The Duchy of Oristand holds the northwestern reaches of the Kingdom of Erradon, it's northern border being the Qorren'Tor Coast, with the independent city state of Brae Larquette holding against the Duchy and Kingdom's western edge.
Two main population centers exist within the Duchy of Oristand, the coastal border city of Ebrem and the Duchy's seat of power, Aerodyl. Colbrook serves Ebrem.
A small rural village, Colbrook is populated primarily by farmer folk, and the tradespeople who support them. There are a couple hundred residents who claim Colbrook as their own, though only fifty or so live in the village itself. You grew up here, but decided some years ago that you were not interested in farming or the associated trades. Fortunately for you, Colbrook falls within Ebrem's rule.
Ebrem, the Starlight City on the Sea. It sits on the delta of the River Landsing, a wide slow moving waterway originating from mountains in the far southern reaches of the kingdom upon which sits a number of cities. As well as being an important trading hub, Ebrem's position at the northwestern point of the kingdom, where a majority of contact with outside powers is initiated, means that it is as cultured as it is fortified. Within the tall marble towers and buttressed cathedrals of Ebrem's Oglibrio District exists many centers of learning and faith.
The wealthiest and most influential families of the Kingdom of Erradon send their progeny to this city to study and gain the political acumen needed to prosper in their future endeavors. But under the direction of the Kingdom, they are not the only ones afforded this opportunity. Understanding that the best and brightest might not also be the wealthiest, it has long been the tradition within Ebrem that every two years trials are held in the Oglibrio District, during which time anyone present may take part. It has been decreed by the King that each institution of learning and faith within the Oglibrio must accept a set number of applicants who pass their trial, at no material cost to them for food, lodging, or the supplies required during the normal course of training and study.
Four years ago, you took part in these trials, and were the pride of Colbrook when you passed the tests and were accepted. Since then, nine months of every year have been spent in Ebrem's Oglibrio District, learning what you may and preparing for your future. From July to September however, you find yourself back in your home of Colbrook.
Colbrook's environs are very familiar to you. North of the village are the apple and pear orchards. To the east is a mile or two of farmland with a couple of ranches beyond before the land opens up into a wide plain of tall grasses. To the west are wooded foothills of oak and birch, ash and elm. Those rolling hills precede the northern reaches of a long mountain range of craggy unforgiving peaks which stretches far away south out of sight and thought. These are called the Glimmerholt Shield Range. A fast moving stream comes out of the Glimmerholt, named Hawk's Eye Creek for the flecks of amber and quartz that can be found in it's bed, which wraps around the north side of the village of Colbrook and continues south around the village's eastern edge. It travels south for many leagues after that, finally emptying into Long Lake, a lake three miles long and a half mile wide which sustains a number of vineyards along it's fertile shores. Between Colbrook and Long Lake, along the eastern banks of the Hawk's Eye Creek, sits a long swath of farm and ranchland.
The village of Colbrook itself is a fairly simple place. There's a mill on the north side by the stone bridge which spans the creek. On the east, just villageside of the bridge crossing the creek there, is a stable and cartwright. The cartwright serves the carter's guild of the kingdom, The Wayfolk of Erradon, who endlessly travel the main routes and byways of the kingdom from village to town to city, collecting goods and fulfilling orders as they go. In a small squat stone building sitting across the street from the stable is the hamlet's smithy, belching dark smoke from a short chimney most days. An herbalist who serves as the village apothecary resides in a small hovel on the west side of town under the eaves of the forest there. The center of Colbrook is dominated by the square, which holds a community well in it's center. On the north side of the square is a long single story wooden building used as a general store and trading post. On the square's western side is a temple to Paladine, more a shrine really. It's a small stone structure, capable of holding a hundred people when full, thought its the most well constructed building in Colbrook, with a marble pillared platform before it's silver plated double doors, Paladine's silver triangle embossed upon them. Across the square from Paladine's shrine is a two story grey cut stone building which stands as the magistrate's residence, who is the appointed village chief. This structure also serves as the courthouse and the office of the local sheriff.
Finally, across the square from the general store and trading post is a two story wooden building which houses the local pub and inn. It has no name per se, but the placard above the door reads Meat and Mead, giving a simple description of what can be expected within. To the locals of Colbrook, it has simply become known as The Meat and Mead.
And it is here your characters find themselves now, just sitting down for a late breakfast as they meet to discuss their plans for the upcoming trip back to Ebrem to resume their studies at the beginning of next month.
