For some reason, I have always loved this setting. I blame it on the authors Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis who wrote tons of marvelous novels. Dragons of Despair was one of the first adventures I DMed, ages ago it seems.
Dragonlance is a saga about courage, friendship, love, faith, honor, life, and death. It's setting, Krynn, is a world ripped apart by several destructive wars, where Gods of Good and Evil fight among themselves since the beginning of Time, and in which normal people can become legendary heroes.
Appropriate Races
Most standard player character races can be used without difficulty. Humans, making up the majority of the residents of Abanasinia, are the obvious choice. Half-elves and kenderare almost as easy to work in. Hill dwarves (Neidar) are very appropriate, but any of the mountain dwarf clans need an explanation of why the character isn’t in Thorbardin. Similarly, a full-blooded elf (Wild elves are called Kagonesti, Silvanesti and Qualinesti are two different High elf races.) needs a backstory explaining why he’s not at home with his people. More exotic and monstrous races are more difficult to explain but certainly not impossible. Minotaurs and sea elves are extremely unusual in this part of Ansalon at this point in time. Only a few races are completely inappropriate. Orcs and Half-orcs are unknown on Ansalon. Draconborns (Draconians) are the enemy and could not possibly be a hero at this point in history. Kender are the halflings of this world.
Appropriate Classes
Almost any class appropriate for DRAGONLANCE, in general, would be appropriate in this adventure. However, keep in mind that this adventure occurs in the Age of Despair.
Two important conditions of the universe exist that restrict appropriate classes. First, the gods are absent at the start of the adventure. Characters may have levels of cleric, but unless they serve an Evil god, they gain no god-granted class features (supernatural and spell-like abilities or spellcasting) from this class. Clerics of the Good and Neutral pantheons do not have these abilities until after the Disks of Mishakal are found, and the Prophet and Elistan bring news of the gods to the people. Similarly, other divine spellcasters (ranger, druid, and paladin) do not have their god-granted abilities. If a player chooses to take a level of one of these classes, the character must read the Disks of Mishakal or be ministered to by either the Prophet or Elistan (after his conversion), and then devote himself to a god in order to gain the benefits of the class. Additionally, the Summer of Chaos that will re-introduce ambient magic to mortals is still many decades away; mystic is, therefore, an unavailable class. The bard class may not cast spells. Levels of sorcerer may only be taken by those creatures that have access to ambient magic to begin with: dragons (including bozak draconian), fey, and other natural spellcasters. Ordinary mortals (such as the heroes) will not have access to this class.
Warlocks are available but may not take the Fiend and Celestial patrons.
Wizards in this setting are bound to gods and strict rules. They are beholden to the Tower of High Sorcery and must take a robe after taking a Tower’s Test upon reaching level 5. White robes for Good, Red for Neutral as Black for Evil. The Gods of magic are represented by three moons that revolve around Krynn. Depending on their position in the sky one of the orders has more power. Sorcerers, Arcane trickster, Eldritch Knight and rangers able to cast level 3 spells are asked to pass the Test and integrated into one order. Renegades are hunted down and killed.
Knight of Solamnia have three orders, all begin as knights of the Crown (Fighter) then decide to become Knight of the Sword (Paladins) or stay has Crowns, those who rise to the higher level may become Knight of the Rose, the leaders of Solamnia.
Background:
I'll be taking 6 players. If you know the setting good, if you don't you've missed out. For reading go do http://dragonlancenexus.com/ is the place best place to go.
The story arc of Dragons of Autumn and the following adventures asks that certain role should be provided. These are suggestions and any variants of these will do.
The Prophet This Archetype’s Role in the Adventure The Prophet is chosen by the gods of Light to hear Mishakal’s calling. She obtains the Blue Crystal Staff and, using it, retrieves the Disks of Mishakal—the holy scripture that will return knowledge of the gods to the people. What Could Replace the Character This adventure requires a cleric, for healing during and after combat if nothing else. If Goldmoon is not used, another character with a spiritual outlook (whose player is willing to take at least one level of cleric after retrieving the Disks of Mishakal from Xak Tsaroth) should be created. The NPC Elistan is intended to become the shepherd of the people, so the player taking on the role of Prophet need not be purely devoted to taking levels of cleric. This character must be of good moral alignment.
This character will have a specific role at the beginning of the adventure.
The Leader This Archetype’s Role in the Adventure The Leader is the face of the group. He does the talking in delicate social situations; he negotiates with friends and enemies when appropriate. He is trusted to make many decisions on behalf of the entire party.
The Rogue This Archetype’s Role in the Adventure The Rogue is usually the jack-of-all-trades. This archetype has a wide array of skills at his disposal. He regularly uses these skills to his own advantage, but he also often uses them to assist the other members of his party.
The Sage This Archetype’s Role in the Adventure The Sage is a central character in many fantasy tales. In this adventure, most of the heroes are ignorant of Ansalon’s history, but it is through uncovering and understanding the past that the heroes prevail in particular tasks. The Sage is extremely important to the group’s success throughout the adventure.
The Ranger This Archetype’s Role in the Adventure The Ranger is often seen as a dark and stoic warrior. The party relies on the Ranger for his combat abilities and his knowledge of wilderness and nature when traveling to distant lands. The Ranger archetype is not usually suited to take a leadership role as most rangers prefer not to deal with people in general.
Adventure Background
Five years ago, a band of good friends frequented the Inn of the Last Home, the most popular tavern and inn in the treetop city of Solace. They made a pact to go off on their own in search of some sign of the true gods, agreeing to meet back at the Inn of the Last Home on that day five years later. Each taking a different path, they set out for the far corners of Ansalon. Now the heroes, known as the Innfellows, return to their hometown after finding only futility—the true gods seem to be well and truly gone. However, at the very least, they can look forward to a warm fire, a good meal, and the companionship of their dearest friends upon their return. Unfortunately, they find that Solace has changed in their absence. The Seekers, a misguided religious sect of questionable sincerity, have become the temporal rulers of Solace, governing the region from the nearby Lordcity of Haven. Rumors of war and whispers of monsters and death circulate among the farmers and townsfolk in hushed voices. Solace has changed, and that change promises to become even more drastic.

As posted above you guys know each other and more than that a few among those are your friends.
You start at level 5; Stats are rolled 4 keep 3 and levels will up by milestones.
I’ll hear all propositions and talk about each character to help them fit the campaign and setting as best as possible.
Personally, I have read all 4 books “”Seasons Dragons”” let me call them in this way.. and I dreaming while I’m reading your post... a trip back to the past! Give me a couple of days and you will have my char!
Having read and still own all the books - this has been far my most favorite book series to date followed by Bob Salvatores Drizzt stuff - in another PbP I'm playing a Tabaxi monk/rogue who is very much kenderlike and is a delight to play. My plate is kind of full already with PbP's but this seems hard to pass up given the subject content. Let me think on it for a bit - this really does excite me, I just want to be able to dedicate the time to do this game justice.

I ll prefer to have a really dedicated player than really hectic ones.
I have read (and still own) most for their books (and a few that are not D&D based.) I fell in love with this setting very early in life and have never had the chance to play in them. It would be a great pleasure to join in this adventure if given the chance. I have a ranger already in the works that could be fleshed out.
I'd love to do this, I was and still am a huge fan of this series and would play any type of character to spend some time in Ansalon, although the Sage jumps out most to me.

Vhon - Level 2 Warlock - What shall become of the Drunken Sailor?
As with most, the Chronicles were a gateway read for me into DnD many years ago. I am definitely in for this. You mentioned a minotaur and of course Kaz jumped to my brain lol
Id be interested in playing a minstrel as the (leader) yearning to forge his own story into the histories or possibly a non human race inspired by the story of Kaz trying to become a knight. I can go either way.

Minotaur is a nice race to place in the sense that they are seen as beasts but are really just civilized non-humans. Ministrel would be a bard but remember the bard has no spells in Ansalon much like rangers. They start having powers when Branchala for good or Shinare for neutral come back (for rangers its Habbakuk and Chislev).
I described him as a minstrel for that reason. Mechanically the bard still has quite a few abilities that would be helpful. Would the bard still get bardic Inspiration and song of rest? I would think they would.
I recently read this series and it got me back into D&D again after being away for 5 years. Would love to play, but seems like you may have enough. I would want to play a human Cleric (The Prophet), but I would be fine with any role. Sounds incredibly fun and should be a blast, I'll be watching this one either way.

From the balcony of his chambers, the canopy of the forest of Wayreth seemed almost like a paceful groove. Until the screams and explosions of magic revelas a more frightening truth, for the Tests of High Sorcery were beign conducted. Par Salian, the leader of the white tunic wizards was looking to the forest but his eyes were focused in one particular candidate, a young wizard apprentice that was about to finish her trials. She was wounded, she was beaten, but the old wizard admired the force of will she had showed along her trials. He was worried though, for the magic of the trials had selected a mighty oppponent for her as the last trial. Maybe that final battle will be the end of a promising career.
“Don’t you worry “ said the men that was seated on the table behind him, wearing red robes “ if she is destined to survive, she will “
“ I hope you are right my old friend “ replied the old wizard.
He shouldn’t have doubted.
Shanryar Dalenthar, opened her eyes in a dim room, a fire cracking at the home made the temperature comfortable. Still her whole body was in pain, the Trials had left her wounded and beaten, both physically and in her soul. But as she was regaining the counsciousness she was aware that she had suceeded. She had to if she was alive. She tried to stand but a warm, firm and old hand in her chest didn’t allowed it.
“Try to rest young Dalenthar. You have done well. Very well. “ the voice of the Head of the White Robes, Par-Salian was reassuring. He gave a mug with a bad taste and strong smell to her indicating that she should drink it all.
“You have a great responsability now “ said the old man after a couple of minutes in wich she tried to drink the potion without choking “Wich color will you choose?”
She let a low laugh that causes her pain in her ribs. “ After covering that child from the fireball with my own body do you still had to do that question? “
“ The boy had robbed your spellbook before, with it you could have another defense ready.... “
“ He didn’t know what he was doing. “ replied Shanryar closing her eyes “ he was trying to feed their family. “
Seeing that she was falling asleep the old wizard decided to leave the room
”Master “ she said whith her eyes still closed, he stopped and turned to her “ next time try to warn the candidate that the Trials had started. I had passed the last five days doing it, and I have an appointment back in Solace “ he was about to reply but then notices that she was joking, and had fell asleep.
“Grab him!” “Stop him!!” “To the thief!!” Nashleroot Hypckwood looked around in case that he could detect the thief and help aprehend him. He was truly amazed when the three guards surrounded him and pointed their weapons to him ordering him to stop.
“Excuse me, this must be some kind of mistake. I didn’t steal nothing... “
“Don’t believe him!” The ugly and old merchant of the Market of Haven came running behind the guards. Nash had a difficult time trying not to laugh for him looked like the porks that Were hanging in a close post. “He had stole one of my trinkets!! I saw him!”
The face of Nash was of the purest innocence
“Me? But... I don’t know what are you talking about! You have very interesting trinkets and rings and.. things but I a m no thief!”
“Empty your bags now!” Asked one of the guards menacing him with his sword. Nash looked at his eyes. Haven had certnaly changed since the last time he was in town. “Less-hospitalary” was his impression. All the people looked angry, and those strange clerics that lurked in the streets, who gives him the creeps.
“Alright alright “ he said “ you could see that in my bags there is only my maps, a couple of colored stones, a phoenix feather.. did I mentioned you how I obtained it? I helped the creature to avoid his own death at the hands of a manticore, noble creatures you know, the phoenix not the manticores... ok ok “ he changed to another bag “ a ring... “
“That’s mine!” Said one of the guards
”Really? Here take it you should be more careful with it, thanks that I found it “ said the kender while continue to empty his bags “ what do we have here? A comb? My comb! I lost it past week you know... and here... “
“ My trinket!!” Yelled the merchant taking it from the hands of the kender
”how you dare?! That belonged to my mother!!! Bethalya Prefteed and was given to her by her mother Phillipa Pretfeed!” As he was talking he was collecting all his things that were disseminated on the floor. “ Great grandmother Phillipa she travelled as far as the Red Sea she did! And no pig nose, ill tempered and... how did you called him?” He asked to the guard that had claimed his ring before “ oh yes! Fish-stenched merchant will acuse me of... “
“What did you called me?” The old man turned to the guard wich turned to the man “ me?! I didn’t say anything...”
“Well” interrupted other guard “ the other day you said that his tent smelled like rotten fish...”
“What?! I did not!”
The kender shrugged his shoulders as the merchant and the guartds started a fight and seeing that he wasn’t required and that probably the thief they were looking for was long escaped he resumed his journey back to Solace.
I described him as a minstrel for that reason. Mechanically the bard still has quite a few abilities that would be helpful. Would the bard still get bardic Inspiration and song of rest? I would think they would.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I would love to get in on this run. i am open to build any void in party. just drop me a line to let me know whats in party and what you would like to fill.

Dragonlance:
For some reason, I have always loved this setting. I blame it on the authors Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis who wrote tons of marvelous novels. Dragons of Despair was one of the first adventures I DMed, ages ago it seems.
Dragonlance is a saga about courage, friendship, love, faith, honor, life, and death. It's setting, Krynn, is a world ripped apart by several destructive wars, where Gods of Good and Evil fight among themselves since the beginning of Time, and in which normal people can become legendary heroes.

Most standard player character races can be used without difficulty. Humans, making up the majority of the residents of Abanasinia, are the obvious choice. Half-elves and kender are almost as easy to work in.

Love both. They are very different so it's hard for me to decide.
