The broken hull of a ship rises from the sea as gushing waterfalls cascade from gaps between the rotting boards. You awaken, not to life but to undeath. A black flag flies overhead, and a white-robed figure beckons from the helm for you to rise. Its raspy voice fills your mind. “Settle your unfinished business. Find rest, revival, redemption, or ruin.” A skeletal finger sticks out of the robe toward a backwater village on the horizon. Saltmarsh.

I’m seeking four players to play undead (ghost, zombie, wraith, specter, shadow, etc.) versions of the other races. You will choose your normal race and then add one of the features of the undead creature you choose to your sheet.
Players are asked to post at least once per day. If life gets in the way occasionally, let me know so you can enter NPC mode.
PM me with your character sheet, a one-paragraph background, your unfinished business, and your top three requests for an undead feature. Your unfinished business should include something related to Saltmarsh or someone there. You may invent an NPC to include in the setting.
Start at level 3 with Milestone XP, standard array, and fixed HP. Pick starting equipment and set your gold to 5 gp.
Agug wakes on a cold wet deck of what seems to be a ghost ship. Oblivious to the talking skeleton and confused by his surroundings, he looks around. Complex rigging of halyards, and downhaul lines all securely tied in place with well crafted knots and lashes tower overhead. "This tub is nothing but twine and bed sheets" Agug grumbles. He has a tendency to oversimplify things that he doesn't understand. Being a solider, and not a sailor, Agug doesn't remember why he was on this ship. Perhaps he was being transported, or was he a prisoner? Agug looks around in his disorganized way for something that might give him a clue, poking at things randomly and shaking things.
Mergrim, a tall man with pale white hair and paler skin but pure black eyes, wakes on the deck of this ship, whispers of his last words still on his lips, “Please let me live, I need to...” As he becomes aware of his surroundings he stops and looks around, rising to his feet, taking notice of the skeletal figure and its message, “Thank you for this opportunity, whoever you are.” Looking to the other “survivors”, “Who are you, what is this place?”
Confused and down on his knees, Azghai, a young "man" with deep black hair, white skin, blue eyes and a dead serious gaze look towards the sky, remembering the last moments of his past life, remembering the moment where all his convictions and dreams crumbled. Deep in his heart he felt a vengeful and sorrow spirit coming from the inability to fight back for all the things that he believed in.
Recomposing himself, he stands up, and finally, those around him can clearly see that Azghai was wearing a heavy armor, and, in his back, he had a sword as big as his own body. He remains silent, looking around the deck of the ship for the figure that granted him new life. Before his demise happened he was a overbearing and confindent man, but right, destiny taught his lesson really well to him.
Once he located that figure with slender and bonny fingers, he couldn't help but focus his gaze on it and ask...
Miwyn, with deep red hair, red skin, bright red eyes, and a horn coming out of each side of his forehead and curving backwards wakes, confused. He vaguely remembers being on a hunt that took him towards Saltmarsh, but he doesn't remember much else.
Hearing Megrim ask a question, Miwyn looks towards the tall, pale man and replies, "I'm Miwyn. I'm a ranger from the area. I was on a hunt one minute. The next, I'm waking up here." After pausing for a brief moment, he continues, "Who might you be? And does anyone know what we're doing here or what "bony fingers" is talking about?"
The water genasi wakes on the beach with the other strangers and peers up at the bony figure in white. His skin is teal and his eyes bright yellow, his red hair hidden mostly under a tan bandana. He wears black trousers that are rolled to just below his knees and a loose fitting, partially unbuttoned white shirt that only partially hides a brass holy symbol of a waterfall pouring into a still pool, his symbol of Eldath, Mother of Waters.
Sitting up the genasi looks into one hand to find himself clutching a second holy symbol, a hammered iron symbol of a cloud and three lightning bolts in honor of Valkur, Captain of the Waves. He puts this one around his neck as well and looks around to survey the scene. Seeing a battered but still lit bullseye lantern at the edge of the water he hurriedly crawls over to it, grabs it, and clutches it tightly against his chest.
After a few more moments of silence the genasi looks around at the others and says "I am Surge." "We were betrayed, our ship attacked in the night. I fear all were lost.." Surge puts his hand right through his ghostly chest and pulls it back out again. "How are we....? This is not the work of the Mother. Who...?" He gazes back up at the figure in white.
The robed figure rasps, “In time, you will know. It is forbidden to guide you. Your purpose cannot be clouded.”
On the northern horizon, Saltmarsh sits low in the waves while the cliffs around it cradle the village. Fishing boats rock gently at the docks, and a royal guard ship creeps along on patrol. To their side, the sun sets with a purple sky reflected on the sea.
A rowboat in severe disrepair hangs at the side of the ship, and after the undead creatures turn to see it swings noisely with the wind, they turn back to find the robed figure is gone.
Surge stares off at Saltmarsh for a long moment, trying to comprehend what has happened and what he can do next with this...odd... opportunity. Stowing the lantern for safe keeping he begins to scour the beach for any more of his personal items or anything else useful, especially a replacement for his rapier.
At one point the water genasi pauses to look at the others and asks "what will you do with this chance?"
(Normally I'd ask if I can roll here, but for the sake of Play-by-Post I'll roll and the DM can ignore it if that is best. ( 2 , add 5 for Perception, subtract 1 for Investigation)
Azghai didn't beat around the bush knowing that the mystical figure disappeared just as he made them all appear on the deck of the ship. He directly threw a gaze around his surroundings, trying to grasp the situation a bit better. 12(Perception) After examining his surroundings he checked the condition of his body, which, because of the shock that he felt when he was "revived" didn't check. ¿It seems he had aditional powers...? or at least, that what he thought at first glance.
"I'll return to the land where I was raised, Saltmarsh. My head it's still muddy after this... this situation is a difficult one to digest."
After that he took a walk, checking the deck of the ship in search of anything useful (alredy threw perception...) and got close to the boat, with the intention of going back to the island.
From this far away, Surge can’t see if the beach offers any equipment for the taking. As the others look around the broken ship for clues or anything of use, they find that it only carries them.
When the lost souls check their coinpurses, they each find five gold coins, each with a different symbol—a kraken, a dragon, a beholder, a devil, and a demon.
Azghai took his decision, he was just about to get into the boat and row to the beach, but before that, he noticed the given coins with different symbols. He took the ones that held the figure of a demon and a devil and took a closer look to both of them. Reflecting about his past life and the facts that surrounded him now, he tossed the coins to the air and catched them with his hands with a resolute gaze.
"¿Anyone is joinning me?"- He asked, as he started to undo the ropes that held the boat to the ship.
(My bad, forgot we aren't on land yet. Apologies.)
Not finding anything particularly useful on the ship, Surge decides to test his magic. He waves his hand around towards the water causing a small volume of it to rise up and form a few dolphins no larger than his forearm that begin to leap one over another as if swimming. He releases the water back to the sea and says to himself "at least the Mother is still with me." (Shape Water)
Making his way over to the rowboat the genasi inspects the damage and see if reapeated castings of his Mending are enough to repair the boat, or if it needs more serious help.
Miwyn moves towards the rowboat and, looking at Surge and Azghai, he says, "Well, I'm not staying on this boat. I was on my way to Saltmarsh anyway. Whenever you all are ready..." Then, Miwyn helps with the ropes where he can to get the boat ready. When the boat is ready, Miwyn will get in.
When Azghai saw the repaired boat he didn't take a second word. He just jumped into the boat and threw another gaze to the people surrounding him, signaling them to hop in as he started to undo the ropes that were holding the boat to the ship.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Agug takes a minute to let the situation sink through his thick skull. The shipwright Azghai has abandon the Ghost Ship. Priest Surge, with the ability to summon wind, seems soon to follow. Agug leaps into the boat and attempts to grapples Azghai and pin him to the floor of the boat. "You better be right about this. If we sink, I'm going to come back from the dead... again... and kill you." Agug growls.
Mergrim will help undo the ropes before joining them in the boat, "For now, I am called Mergrim. But I think we should save most of this discussion for when we get on solid land." Seeing Agug attempt to grapple Azghai, he'll try and intervene, helping Azghai throw him off (help), "Knock it off! Don't waste what we've been given on petty nonsense."
As its getting darker as the sun sets, he'll also cast light on the boat to help everyone see and to help them be seen by anyone else out there, then take an oar to help row to shore.
(The rowboat can fit all of you. You deduce that Saltmarsh is about two miles away. The ship might be able to sail. You can make an investigation check to learn more. Azghai can roll athletics or acrobatics with advantage against Agug’s grapple since you have Mergrim’s help.)
