Tom takes you out of the Barracks and into the crowded streets of Waterdeep. At this time of the day, merchants and potential buyers are vying for gain. The city is bustling with activity.
Though you all know the streets of Waterdeep rather well you are impressed by how well Tom navigates. He seems to know exactly where to go and where there are fewer people.
You enter the Sea Ward and its tall mansion and rich houses. Patrols are more frequent here and the City Watch is rather well dressed compared to the other Watchmen.
Tom explains as you walk down the streets.
" So,... " he stammers trying to find an angle, " Sorry the Sarge couldn't properly introduce you to the rest and explain what is expected." He lets out a big breath then starts again. " You are now Grey Clocks, the men and women the Watch calls where they are out of their depth, though they are never going to say it, and you ll have to wear those pins, " he gives you each one, they look like an open hand in dull metal, " We, well you, are here to help and assist and they usually let you handle things once you take on a problem but you need to play nice because the Grey always gives the credit to the Watch. Ho and I'm quoting the Sarge, No unnecessary killing."
"For this case, we are heading to the Alona Mansion. They are an old and noble family. One of their sons has been found dead in the inner garden of the mansion."
"Feel free to ask any questions. I ll try to answer but I haven't been privy to much. Lieutenant Grave, of the Watch, will tell you more once we get there."
Kendil was marching as the head of the suddenly formed unit and listening Toms explanation with professional attention: "Why did the Watch sent for Greys? When did the murder happen? What is so special about it?" He put the new pin on place of his formal Guardsman insignia.
"Like I said. I don't know much more. The Watch usually calls on the Grey when they need some special expertise or muscle." he seems to look for words, "Or when it's politically problematic."
" The body was found this morning by the maid." he adds, in a rush to change the subject.
Tom shrugs. "i used to live in those streets. I was on the wrong side of the law for a long time. And before that I was on my own. I m not proud of what I was but I am proud of what I am becoming."
"As for the murder I m sorry but I can t tell you more. You ll have to talk to the Matron and the lieutenant."
As he finishes he leads you around another corner and you see before you the large house of the Alona. There crest is a white horse on a green field and it flyes proudly over the mansion.
Two men are arguing on the porch. One is wearing the Watch tabard and the other is a young and undoubtfully drunk noble.
Several Watchmen stand around blocking the path to the house
The watchlen let you go through easily but you are not sure it is because of the insignia or because of Toms presence. They sneer at him but Tom seems oblivious.
The lieutenant is the one arguing with the drunken noble.
It seems the young man doesn't want the Watch to go inside. Seems they have history and he says rather loudly that the last time the Watch came some very valuable things dissappeared. The argument is not well received but a few onlookers nod.
The young man is called Aril Alona one of the younger sibling.
"Aril Alona, I am Kaylyn Lightsorrow of the Grey Hand. We are here to help with the investigation. "
She turns to the Lieutenant.
"Lieutenant, the Grey Hand is here to assist. If you are able to secure the perimeter we will aid this young noble. We'll get to the bottom of this and see that both justice and the needs of this nobleman are met."
Kaylyn has a take charge attitude yet speaks with respect to both the young noble and the Lieutenant.
A noble hose of any esteem was never the place Kendil's horns were welcomed. He awaited for Alona's decision with the perfect expression of exemplary soldier on his face.
"Well," began Kendil dropping his silent solder attitude, "could you tell us what exactly happen? The Watch was very light on details. All we know is that your brother is dead - my sincerest condolences - and that his death was not of natural causes".
"I guess my older brother has made to many mistakes and has paid the ultimate price" he stares in space for a second then shakes his head.
"Derek, my older brother was found dead late last night in the inner garden. That's about all I know for sure. My mother wont let me see his body and all the servants are close mouthed about it."
As he speaks you can all see his anger rising.
"I m now the heir of this family and they still won't recognize it."
"Derek was doing some shady things I m sure, trying to" save" our family, but I think he got in way over his head."
He stars to say more but a harsh voice cuts him off.
" That's enough Aril, go take a bath and let the grown-up talk. We will call upon you if you ever decide to become something else than a lazy drunkard. " A gaunt woman enters the room. Dressed in black silk and with her drawn features she makes a striking figure.
She let's nothing transpire as she waves Aril protest away nonchalantly.
" Sorry for that. He doesn't know any better. Who are you and what do you want?"

"So is this one politically problematic? What's the story on this family that we should be concerned about?"
Kaylyn asks as they walk along.
"Tom how do you know these streets so well?"

The two, Aril and the lieutenant, are very surprised to have you interrupt them.
The noble youth shrugs after a second and leads you in. " As long as it's someone that isn't part of the Watch I m sure my mother will agree."
He leads you inside and to the right into a large room with a table and some chairs. He mentions for you to sit down and rings a bell.
When a servant arrives he says, " Call my mother and ... bring me a cask of watered wine, " he looks at you all.. " Might as well start light."
"Ask your questions while we wait."

Aril chuckles but it seems forced.
