Hey all! I've been running a campgain here on the forums called Domain of the Raging One for about 10 months now, and recently we lost one of our players and are looking for a replacement. It's a Forgetten Realms campaign loosly based on some of the lore from the Dragon of Icespire Peak campaign series, running from a thought experiment of what would happen if the Cult of Talos was victorious and their god dominated the realm. Commitment level is roughly a post per day, though at times it has been slower than than that, and particularly long posts aren't needed (though more detail is always welcome). The campagin is also a bit of a back-to-basics game, with player characters built using only content from the Basic Rules, PHB, DMG, and Elemental Evil Players Companion.
In response to Talos's domination of the realm, many of the other gods have formed a coaltion to stop Talos and free the realm from his control. While they cannot enter the Material Plane directly, they have chosen champions to grant power to in order to complete this quest. These champions are our party! Here's our current party of champions:
Half-Elf College of Lore Bard, champion of Tymora (Trickery Domain)
Earth Genasi Oath of Vengence Paladin, champion of Tempus (War Domain)
Variant Human Divination Wizard, champion of Mystra (Knowledge Domain)
Half-Elf Circle of the Moon Druid, champion of Mielikki (Nature Domain)
Dragonborn Hunter, champion of Semuanya (Life Domain)
The player who left was a Light Domain Cleric of the god Lathander, so I'm looking for another player willing to be champion of a god of light! If you are interested, here's some more details and the application format:
-Your character will start at Level 6 -Ability scores: roll in thread, no rerolls for 1s. Roll two sets and choose which one you want to use. If you like neither, you can use point buy or standard array -Use either fixed or manual for HP rolls, no encumbrance -As mentioned above, only content from the Basic Rules, PHB, DMG, and Elemental Evil Player's Companion is allowed for creating your characters
Character Name: Patron God (Choose any Forgotten Realms diety of Light other than Lathander - gods and their domains can be found in Appendix B in the PHB): Alignment: Race: Class/Subclass (Could be Light Domain cleric or anything that you feel thematically fits a champion of a god of Light!) : Backstory (before becoming your god's champion, 3-5 sentences): Why did your god choose you?: Character Sheet Link:
In addition, here's a few homebrew rules that the campaign uses:
Most adventuring pace rules are ignored, and the PCs are assumed to always have enough food and water unless otherwise specified
All spells that require inexpensive material components no longer do
GP and other forms of currency will for the most part be ignored, as there are no real shops in this world after all of the destruction. Gear will be earned through combat rather than bought
A Nat 1 always fails, and a Nat 20 always succeeds (in some way), regardless of other factors or modifiers
All characters without a Channel Divinity naturally get 1 use of the Channel Divinity of the domain of their patron god per long rest. In your case, that will be Raidance of the Dawn The ability will use your level in your starting class. Paladins simply add this Channel Divinity as another option among those they have already, and clerics instead get 2 uses of Channel Divinity and recharge 1 each short or long rest. We have a homebrew feat that I'll add to the character sheet of the person I choose that will impliment this for you
Here's a bunch of information that might be useful to you in building your characters. There's absolutely no need for you to read all of it, but take a look as as much as you personal find useful, though reading the TL;DR of the campaign so far is highly reccomended
Quick lore from before the start of the campaign:
Since the victory of the Cult of Talos, the roiling, stormy ocean has flooded inland, decimating the city of Neverwinter and the town of Leilon in the process. The coast now lays at the border of the Neverwinter Woods and up to about where Phandalin is south of that, with the ocean now curving around the westernmost peaks of the Sword Mountains. The canyon running between the lower half of the Sword Mountains and the hills above is also now filled with water. The city of Phandalin lays in complete ruin, decimated by the now fully grown white dragon Cryovain, who rules an icy domain atop Icespire Peak (centermost peak of the northern ridge of the Sword Mountains). His relationship with the Cult of Talos is unclear, but the followers of the storm god certainly give him a wide berth. The Neverwinter woods are overrun by acolytes of Talos, and the area as a whole is tormented by the constant danger of the rampant water and air elementals that Talos has let loose on the realm. The forces of the Elemental Planes of Air and Water themselves are now felt here, and the damage caused by them is immeasurable. The whole region is coated in a constant storm, and the lighting and harsh winds are at their worst in the mountains around Mount Hotenow, now rendered uninhabitable by the extreme weather.
It is a terribly bleak situation for all of the races of Northwest Faerûn, as every major human settlement has been decimated, most wood elves have been driven out of the Neverwinter Woods, and many of the mountains and hills where dwarves and gnomes once thrived now are impossible to live comfortably in. The Air and Water Genasi are perhaps having the most fun, now being closer than ever to their ancestral planes, but even for them the destruction is far too much. Talos has been ruthlessly unforgiving and destructive, paying no regard in what he decimates to protecting his former cultists. As such, many of the human cultists of Talos were killed by the savage elements in the same numbers as everyone else, while those who survived and cultists of races more suited to the new conditions continue to serve him with complete devotion. While some brave heroes still live dangerous lives elsewhere, most settlement has moved to the southernmost areas of the region. Elves live mostly now in the Kryptgarden Forest, with small human and halfling settlements scattered both in the forest with the elves and in the plains below it. Dwarven and Gnome settlements span across the southern hills, the southern half of the Sword Mountains where they are far enough away from Cryovain to be safe, and in the Starmetal Hills. Most major authority structures have collapsed, and those of all races prefer to live is small, mobile bands that can avoid the rampaging dangers of the region, as even these safter areas are not completely secure. Talos himself cannot maintain a permanent physical presence in the Material Plane, but his influence is certainly felt here as destruction, storms, and danger wreak havoc on the region and its inhabitants.
TL;DR of the Campaign so far:
The champions convened in Sigil, the city of doors, where they met thier patron gods. After the gods disagreed on how best to begin dismantaling Talos's control over the realm, the champions followed the advice of Tymora and went to explore some strange occurances in the flooded area that was once the Mere of Dead Men, possibly in hopes of finding allies against Talos. On the way, they ran into two dwarves being attacked by undead and joined them in orded to help free the lost city of Axeholm, their ancestral home, from the undead that were infesting it. Cheif among those was the banshee Vyldara, and old even ambassador that had betrayed the city of Axeholm and was now haunting its halls. The city had been lost long ago, and the two dwarves wanted to re-establish it as a safe haven for themselves and their fellow dwarves in this time of chaos. After fighting off attacks from many forms of undead, the group reached Axeholm and sqaured off in a lengthy battle against Vyldara and her horde of ghasts and ghouls.
After finally defeating her, they confirmed another thing they had heard along the way: that sometime between when Axeholm was lost and now it had been used as a base by the cult of the death god Myrkul, though the cult had been decimated by the followers of Talos. Exploring the castle, they learned that the cult was lead by Ebondeath, the spirit of a long-dead dracolich that possesses dragons, and learned that he possessed a young black dragon and lead the cult in battle against Talos in the initial (unsuccesful) war to stop him and his cult. The party then descended into the basement of the castle, where dragon bones had clearly been dug up from the ground, and after finding and re-assembling a portal, left Axeholm in the hands of the dwarves, brining a singular dragon bone they had found in the basement with them. The portal transported them into the ocean that was covering what was once the Mere of Dead Men. Upon discovering a strange area where the water was being repelled by some sort of magic, the bone was torn from the party's possesion and joined the rest of the skeleton, which was laid on the ocean floor there, where the cultists had clearly been transporting it
When the skeleton was complete, Ebondeath was released, revealing that after Talos and his cult was victorious, the storm god trapped Ebondeath in the bones of his last host and scattered the bones to the wind. The party, having completed what the death cult started, set him free. Seeing the party's Dragonborn, Ebondeath possessed him, though the dragonborns's power and blessing of his god meant he was not fully possesed and instead shares control with Ebondeath. Realizing their goals are similar, the party struck an uneasy alliance with Ebondeath, who informed that Talos was able to exert so much influence over the realm because of open portals to the elemental planes of Water and Air, which were alsso the cause of the elementals that were flooding the realm and causing destruction. The group located and made their way to the portal to the Plane of Water, where they are currently fighting off some elementals and trying not to get pushed over a waterfall

Character Name: Rylan Thorne Patron God: Helm (Light Domain) Alignment: Lawful Neutral Race: Variant Human Class/Subclass: Cleric - Light Domain Backstory (before becoming your god's champion, 3-5 sentences): Rylan was born in the small frontier town of Phandalin. When he was young, a cleric of Helm saved his family from an orc attack. That inspired him to travel to the nearby city of Neverwinter and dedicate his life to the service of Helm. When Phandalin was destroyed, his family was killed, and now he seeks vengeance and to protect others from meeting the same grisly fate. Why did your god choose you?: Helm chose Rylan, because he is uniquely dedicated to the protection of service of others, wanting to save as many people as he can, because he feels guilty that he didn't save his own family. Class/Subclass: Cleric (Light Domain) (If multiclass avaible, and possible, she will multiclass Cleric (light domain) 4 / Paladin 2 ( devotion on next lvl)
Backstory: Raised between Baldur's gate (were her family is from) and Neverwinter, due to her family business there she deeply felt the fall of the city when the Cult of Talos released the tempest wrath God upon the world. She aided refugees to reach the relatively safety of Baldurs Gate and other cities in the south but it wasn't enough. She prayed and prayed and the God answered, telling her that she will be tested. She was and passed. Now, she has been set on the path she had prayed for, to throw Talos away from Toeril and to destroy its Cult.
Why did your god choose you?: Devotion and willingness to put herself in danger to protect others. Helm had made his choice long before she kneeled at the temple in Baldur's Gate, still he tested her. She overcame the test by her force of will and commitment.
Character Name:Theomir Verendarin Patron God: Helm Alignment: Chaotic Good Race: High Elf Class/Subclass: Paladin Oath of Devotion Backstory (before becoming your god's champion, 3-5 sentences):
First born to a wealthy noble, Theomir was set to inherit his fathers title and wealth. Through most of his life, he didn't question his destiny. His family seemed to get along quite fine, even his younger brother never seemed jealous of his higher status. However, as time went on, Theomir grew more and more uncomfortable with his current way of life. As a first born noble, his family's priority was always to keep him (and themselves) safe no matter how many lives were put on the line to do so. He hated feeling useless, and he hated knowing that if it came to it, many of his people could end up giving their lives for him simply because it was their job. The line was crossed when his younger brother Thayos, was sent off to become a war mage. Despite his parent's disapproval, he vowed that if the people of his fiefdom were to protect him, he would protect them, along with all who could not protect themselves, as well.
Since then, he has devoted himself to the protection of not only his fiefdom, but to anyone else who he deems needs protecting. His family has accepted this as his way of life, and have even begun to encourage him and his efforts after seeing that he has earned his people's favor. Theomir himself is still unsure if he wishes to become a lord in his father's place, but he has cast the thought from his mind thus far. With the elven lifespan, surly that decision is far off.
Why did your god choose you?: Helm found Theomir's devotion to his people and determination to better himself moving. Who better to be a champion of light than someone willing to put his title on the line simply because he wants to protect those around him? Character Sheet Link:Theomir
(PS: May flesh the (why did Pelor Helm choose him part) out a bit more if I have time. Also, sorry the backstory is longer than 5 sentences!)
(Did a tiny bit of research and Helm seems to fit this better. Not to mention I'm not sure if Pelor actually fit the retirements...)
Character Name: Zari (Compassion) Graceheart Patron God: Apollo (Light Domain) Alignment: Neutral Good Race: Tiefling Class/Subclass: Sorcerer/Cleric, Wild Magic/Light Domain (If Multiclassing isn't allowed I'll stick with Sorcerer) Backstory (before becoming your god's champion, 3-5 sentences): Zari grew up orphaned and physically flawed in the outskirts of Daggerford during the tempest, all the while being shunned by every race for her 'devilish' appearance. She never knew anything about her 'gift' which allowed her to manipulate the elements to restore and heal other living beings and her obsession with the Greek god Apollo was due to her sneaking into a shrine and becoming fascinated by what the preachers had to do when worshipping the god. Despite her appearance, Zari had no bloodthirsty thoughts against the people who belittled her; Instead, she assisted those who she thought they were in need without them asking first. That's what makes her have a sense of purpose in a world who dislikes her: That people can help get back on their feet because of her spontaneous acts of kindness. Why did your god choose you?: Daggerford during the outburst was littered with thousands of injured people, both combatant and non-combatant. And yet there were insufficient medics that could up treat most of the victims to near recovery. Zari wasn't a trained medic, however. When she would spot the injured lying about, all she would do is approach them and heal them with her gifted powers without providing any repayment. That's it. It was due to this random act of kindness that when she visited the shrine alone, Apollo remarked at her selfless personality and asks her to aid those who are joining the fight against Talos, to which she agrees, as long as no one else is willing to live the lonely life she had to experience Character Sheet Link: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/89608666

Here's a different take on a Light-themed character, a Fire sorcerer!
Character Name: Mur Patron God: Kossuth (Light Domain) Alignment: Chaotic Good Race: Human (variant) Class/Subclass: Draconic Sorcerer 6 Backstory (before becoming your god's champion, 3-5 sentences): Despite being a descendant of dragons, with magic power literally flowing though his veins, Mur struggled to learn to harness his power and sought out an experienced wizard to teach him. Though highly intelligent, he was dismissed by multiple Masters for his free-wheeling nature which resisted book study and pyromaniac tendencies. Just as he had found one who might have taught him properly, an evoker, Talos staged his takeover and the mage perished. Character Name: Tandis Feday Patron God: Sune Alignment: Chaotic Good Race: Human Class/Subclass: Light Cleric Backstory/Why did your god choose you?: Born with a full head of red hair, it seemed his destiny that Tandis would be chosen for the temple, though fortuitously, at a young age, he found herself there after running across an older woman in the woods as a child who introduced him to Sune. Tandis has now dedicated his life to the temple, which has now been nearly overrun, and has had to go into hiding after Talos and his damned followers overran the coast. Still, a man who cannot help but help those in need, he received his god's blessing in an unusual way. Not long ago he came across a follower of Talos in need of help. He was injured and scared of what might happen to him if he did not return with the news he held for his superiors. Hoping to ease the man's pain, Tandis cast a simple healing spell, though his thoughts were clouded knowing of this man's mission. As he cast the spell, he felt Sune's presence in his magic, and afterwards, though the man was healed, he also somehow had been stripped of his memory of his mission. No longer afraid of what would happen to him, he dashed off to return to his camp, leaving behind what we was to deliver. Tandis helped the man, though perhaps not in the way he anticipated. He's now been given the image of a group of champions on the Ocean of Dead Men to find, and to take with him what was left behind.

(PS: May flesh the (why did
PelorHelm choose him part) out a bit more if I have time. Also, sorry the backstory is longer than 5 sentences!)(Did a tiny bit of research and Helm seems to fit this better. Not to mention I'm not sure if Pelor actually fit the retirements...)
Character Name: Zari (Compassion) Graceheart
Patron God: Apollo (Light Domain)
Alignment: Neutral Good
Race: Tiefling
Class/Subclass: Sorcerer/Cleric, Wild Magic/Light Domain (If Multiclassing isn't allowed I'll stick with Sorcerer)
Backstory (before becoming your god's champion, 3-5 sentences): Zari grew up orphaned and physically flawed in the outskirts of Daggerford during the tempest, all the while being shunned by every race for her 'devilish' appearance.
That's it. It was due to this random act of kindness that when she visited the shrine alone, Apollo remarked at her selfless personality and asks her to aid those who are joining the fight against Talos, to which she agrees, as long as no one else is willing to live the lonely life she had to experience

Here's a different take on a Light-themed character, a Fire sorcerer!
Character Name: Mur
Patron God: Kossuth (Light Domain)
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Race: Human (variant)
Class/Subclass: Draconic Sorcerer 6
Backstory (before becoming your god's champion, 3-5 sentences): Despite being a descendant of dragons, with magic power literally flowing though his veins, Mur struggled to learn to harness his power and sought out an experienced wizard to teach him. Though highly intelligent, he was dismissed by multiple Masters for his free-wheeling nature which resisted book study and pyromaniac tendencies. Just as he had found one who might have taught him properly, an evoker, Talos staged his takeover and the mage perished.

Character Name: Tandis Feday
Patron God: Sune
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Race: Human
Class/Subclass: Light Cleric
Backstory/Why did your god choose you?: Born with a full head of red hair, it seemed his destiny that Tandis would be chosen for the temple, though fortuitously, at a young age, he found herself there after running across an older woman in the woods as a child who introduced him to Sune.

Withdrawn as I am obviously an idiot, not realizing "Celestial" was not part of the PHB.
