I've been playing around with the notion of running a modification to CoS in a pulpish sci fi setting. Here’s the outline:
CURSE OF THE RAVEN STAR
In the distant reaches of the cosmos lies a dreaded star system known as Barovia, shrouded in darkness and ruled by the malevolent vampirate warlord, Count Zarkon. Legend whispers tales of a tragic love that bound Zarkon to the cursed Barovian system, where two stars orbit a relentless black hole, ominously dubbed the Raven Star.
Long ago, Zarkon made a desperate pact with dark cosmic forces to save his beloved, but the treacherous bargain condemned him to an eternal fate. Forever imprisoned within the Raven Star's grasp, he was doomed to bask in its light while forever yearning for the touch of his lost love, trapped in a quantum prison at the heart of the cosmic abyss.
Through the passage of centuries, Zarkon's anger and boredom grew, until fate intervened with the arrival of a starship from the Star Guardians, an esteemed group of intergalactic peacekeepers. Seizing an opportunity for amusement, Zarkon devised a wicked game toying with the lives of these brave mortal heroes.
However, unbeknownst to Zarkon, the cosmic soothsayer, Madame Stardust, crossed paths with the Star Guardians en route. Her gift of foresight allowed her to glimpse the darkness lurking in the shadows and the impending peril that awaited the heroes.
Guided by Madame Stardust's cryptic insight, the Star Guardians are thrust into a cosmic quest, where they must gather the scattered elements essential for Zarkon's defeat. As the heroes embark on this perilous journey, they will encounter alien wonders, face deadly challenges, and uncover ancient cosmic artifacts holding the key to Zarkon's vulnerability.
Can the brave Star Guardians decode the riddles of Madame Stardust's visions and unravel the enigma of Zarkon's curse before he annihilates them? Will they triumph over the vampirate warlord, releasing him from the Raven Star's relentless hold, or will they be mere pawns in his malevolent game?
As the cosmic tides swirl and destinies intertwine, the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance. Only time will reveal if these heroes have the mettle to overcome the cosmic obstacles and emerge victorious, banishing the curse of the Raven Star once and for all. Embark on this epic journey as the Star Guardians face the vampirate's wrath, unmask the mysteries of the universe, and dare to shape the destiny of the stars themselves!
I'd run via Play by Post (haven't decided if I'll do Discord or run on these forums).
Is that something that there would be interest in from this community?
I'd be interested and would like to hear more although I would prefer play here on the site instead of Discord but I might be open to Discord, something I would have consider once more info is available.
It does sound interesting, even though I am not really familiar with Spelljamer as such - would that be a problem for you?
It might even be fun as a character quirk - the character of the one player who is not acquainted with the material ends up stranded in that setting, pulled from the more traditional Sword Coast and the character itself ends up beign totally lost in all the marvel this new world holds.
I myself only have a very vague knowledge of Spelljammers but I did purchase the online version but haven't had a chance to really look through it yet. I'm mostly into and experienced with Forgotten Realms and Eberron but what you are looking to do so does sound interesting to me. So same goes for me that stipeftw said above... if you don't mind my not being knowledgeable with the setting, I'm good.
