Within the Dwendalian Empire located in Western Wynandir there is Hupperdook an industrial city responsible for manufacturing war machines for the empire. Most of the 12,576 souls living here are gnomes with a smattering of dwarves and humans. The city itself is carved out of the eastern terminus of the Silberquel mountain ridge.
In the Lower Tier are a hundred or more dark workshops and towers that billow smoke from chimneys and stacks. Oversized cannons and mobile siege towers are placed in the open spaces between these towers. The colors are fairly drab: browns, greys, and dark graphite metals. On the ground there is a faint layer of soot from the constant smoke. Long days of hard work in the forges and scrapyards end with evenings of extensive celebration and debauchery. Then in the morning the inhabitants drink some Fuse, a hangover curative, and gets back to work.
Hook
You find yourself indebted to the city’s Watchmaster, Bram Gulchswattle, a gnome of middling age, who is notorious for being short-staffed. Consider what form of debt you have. Perhaps helping the Watchmaster will finally wipe your slate clean, or you owe him a favor. As of late there have been stirrings of a possible spy ring and he needs your help ferreting them out. Getting the stationed military Crownsguards involved would be more trouble than it's worth as they have a habit of kicking in doors and dragging civilians to be interrogated for days or thrown in a dungeon to be forgotten.

Brief Backstory: (Include how are you indebted to the Watchmaster)
Brief Backstory: As a child he lived on the outskirts of a village in the sorest beyond. A plague struck the village, and naturally they blamed his mother, a hag. They came with torches and weapons to their cabin. He was hushed out the back on the house as his mother confronted the hoard of villagers. He remembers running, the flicker of fire between the trees. He doesn't remember when he stopped.
He woke to a number of people standing over him. One held a device, like a pocket watch, it whirled and chimed. The man closed it, giving a nod to one of the others before pocketing the device once more. They offered him a choice, to stay here, or come with them. With the promises of room, board, and education, he saw very little reasons to refuse at the time. If his mother lived, she would come for him eventually. He was taught the basics of magic, which he picked up quickly due to a natural inclination. But things progressed, transferred to advanced classes with Trent Ickathon. In reality it was much more than that, experiments to expand his magic, to make him a proper pupil of Trent's, a volstrucker. His body is marked with countless scars from experiments and the implantation of focusing crystals beneath his skin.
The watchmaster was quite helpful in completing a past mission that Laine was tasked. It was a desperate action, as he feared what kind of example would be made of him in the face of failure. He is now returning the favor, it's better to get it over with quick, instead of looming over his head.
Name:Nathaniel Mortmaigne Race: Tiefling (Winged) Class: Warlock (Celestial) Background: Criminal Backstory: Nathaniel was born a true infernal bastard of his noble mother Lady Mortmaigne but sent far away from the Martmaigne estates to a simple orphanage in the city of Hupperdook to be lost and forgotten, but he quickly took his refuge to the streets and backalleys of the lower tier, stealing and conning people for a living. While still young the Watchmaster himself caught him trying to pick his pocket but decided to let him go with a promise to be of service one day, a day that now has come. Recently Nathaniel has had dreams of a radiant angelic being claiming to be Ezekiel, his guardian angel, connected to a talisman his mother sent with him. Ezekiel has granted the young man some celestial powers but expects the young scoundrel to turn his life around, something Nathaniel has no real interest in doing, but just maybe working as a spy catcher for the Watchmaster will make the young tiefling realize that doing good can be an entertaining way of life too.
race: Minotaur (can change to Goliath/Half-Orc if needed)
class: Cleric (War Domain)
Backstory:
In the war-torn region of Wildemount, amidst the chaos of the Battle of Crimson Fields, a towering minotaur named Kaelen emerged as an unlikely beacon of hope. Born into a nomadic tribe of minotaurs known for their resilience and strength, Kaelen possessed a deep connection to his ancestral roots and the gods. Despite his intimidating appearance, he was kind-hearted and deeply devout.
During the battle, Kaelen's family, revered healers within their minotaur community, courageously tended to the wounded soldiers from all sides. Their selflessness inspired Kaelen, solidifying his belief in the gods' guidance. However, tragedy struck when a ruthless warlord targeted his family, seeking to eliminate their healing prowess to cripple the opposing forces.
Witnessing the sacrifice of his family, Kaelen's faith was tested but ultimately strengthened. Embracing the Dawn Father, he vowed to protect others from the horrors he had witnessed, channeling his grief and determination into becoming a cleric of the war domain.
Kaelen's journey led him to the city of Zadash, where he joined the clergy of the war domain. Under the guidance of his mentors, he mastered the art of healing and warfare, becoming a formidable force on the battlefield. Despite his imposing minotaur stature, he found acceptance and respect within the diverse community of Zadash, proving that bravery and compassion knew no race or form.
During a dire threat posed by a deadly cult, Kaelen, with his fellow clerics, joined forces with Watchmaster Bram Gulchswattle and his guards to defend the city. Their combined efforts repelled the attackers, saving countless lives and ensuring the city's safety.
In the aftermath of the battle, Kaelen's gratitude toward Bram knew no bounds. He recognized the Watchmaster's strategic brilliance and leadership, understanding the importance of their alliance. Bound by honor and camaraderie, Kaelen pledged his divine assistance whenever Bram or the city needed the intervention of a cleric skilled in the ways of war. Together, they stood as a testament to unity, proving that even in a war-torn land, diverse beings could find common ground in their shared pursuit of peace and protection.
Physical Appearance:
Standing tall and broad-shouldered, he embodies the strength and resilience of his minotaur heritage. His fur, a rich and earthy hue of deep brown, is well-groomed and highlighted by subtle, natural patterns that accentuate his powerful muscles. His eyes, a deep and contemplative shade of amber, exude a quiet wisdom and kindness that contradicts the fierce reputation often associated with minotaurs.
Upon his head, a pair of magnificent, intricately curved horns curl proudly from his temples, their tips sharpened to a subtle point, a testament to his lineage's noble heritage. His face bears the marks of experience, with a few well-earned scars that tell tales of battles fought and won. Despite the severity of his scars, there is a gentleness in his gaze that puts others at ease.
Kaelen's attire reflects his cleric status, adorned in a set of sturdy, well-crafted plate armor that gleams in the light. Intricate engravings depicting symbols of his deity adorn the armor, emphasizing his unwavering devotion. Around his neck, a holy symbol hangs, a token of his faith and a source of divine power.
In battle, he wields a massive warhammer with practiced ease, each swing a testament to his skill and determination. Despite his fearsome appearance, Kaelen's demeanor is calm and composed, exuding an aura of quiet confidence and inner strength. His presence is a reminder that bravery and compassion can coexist in the most formidable of forms, making him a beacon of hope and inspiration to those who stand alongside him.

Name: Sahir Dayie
Race: Eladrin (could be a drow exile from Krynn if that helps the campaign)
Class: Wizard, School of illusion
Backstory: A traveler from a distant nation, Sahir was raised in what he thought was a school of wizardry, but what turned out to be a training school for illusion-based thievery, so he left, or more accurately, escaped, because nobody is allowed to leave the School of Dancing Lights, and has made his way to this strange land. Watchmaster Gulchswattle patched him up after a run-in with some local thugs, and in return, he's in the Watchmaster's service until the medical debt is paid.
Character description: A young, slender man with olive (or purple-black if drow) skin and short dark hair. Quiet and slow to trust, but he's interested in finding something to believe in after being raised in a world of deception.
Brief Backstory: (Include how are you indebted to the Watchmaster) Nisha grew up everywhere and nowhere in particular. Were her parents killed? Did they dump her because they didn't want her? No idea. Nobody knows. It's clear one of them was an elf and the other was a human, but that is how much she knows of her family. She was raised by a rogue going by the name of Sleek - a tabaxi, with paws as quick as they were deadly. He was starting to get old and probably decided he could get someone young and naïve to do his bidding, so he took the girl in and gave her the name Nisha. Sleek taught her well, introduced her to the world of espionage, seduction and intrigue and trained her in the arts of deception, stealth and persuasion, moulding her into a perfect asset for his secret operations. For years, they have travelled from city to city, spying, stealing and scamming people off their possessions. Finally, their travels led them to Hupperdook. The tabaxi had some 'insight information' about some extraordinary piece of arcane machinery and he believed it was the heist of a lifetime. Long story short, they got ambushed by a group of guards as they were attempting to relieve the city of the special item. Sleek managed to escape, but Nisha was captured. The audacity and skill displayed by Nisha and her companion in their near successful heist left an indelible impression, so Watchmaster Bram Gulchswattle decided to give her a choice - work for him to repay her debt or face imprisonment... or worse. And now he practically owns Nisha until he deems her debt repaid.
Character Description or art piece: Sleek often jests that Nisha is a living embodiment of opulence, with her eyes, the colour of molten gold and her long hair that flows like liquid moonlight, framing her fair face and shimmering like precious strands of silver spun by the gods themselves. Veiled in a robe of deepest black, Nisha moves with a grace that is both enigmatic and beguiling. In her presence, one can't help but feel as though they are in the company of a living tapestry, where the interplay of silver and gold paints a portrait of a mysterious and alluring figure, whose very essence seems touched by celestial enchantment. Still, it is rare of someone to actually see her face, as she likes to move in the shadows and keeps her features well concealed.
Oh my, I've been curious about Wildemount for quite some time! I'm already seeing a seedy minor artificer noble tied to the war machine factories ... perhaps loves her gambling and lost to the Watchmaster one too many times? Anyway, dropping in a placeholder until I can work out the details

Most gamblers make their money off cards or dice. Aegis Falchion wins and loses fortunes across the tangled squares of a dragonchess match.
Most mid-level shift technicians in the factories of Hupperdook are not war machines themselves. Aegis Falchion might well have been painstakingly assembled in one ofvery factories that grace the city she now calls home.
In many different ways, Aegis Falchion is a contradiction and a mystery. A Warforged who not only embraces the messy emotionality of being a sentient being with verve and delight, but is somehow able to integrate that with the absolute precision of mind she needs to be a skilled artificer herself. Her taste for gambling perfectly balances these two aspects of her personality; unfortunately, this means that she pursues it with even more verve and abandon than she dedicates to other aspects of her life. And that damned Watchmaster just kept getting @@)(&_#*$&@( LUCKY! Maddeningly lucky, goadingly lucky. So lucky she couldn't help herself. She just HAD to win.
Instead, she finds herself, a noble of the Dwendalian empire ... if a rather scorned and despised one ... in the humiliating position of owing a common gnome SPY a FAVOR!
Class: Artificer
Background: Gambler
Character description: Aegis Falchion's original form is no longer visible thanks to the services of an understanding cosmetic artificer, and even she does not remember most days what she used to look like. In the present, her form is very clearly a feminine one designed for grace as much as precision of movemnt. She instructed the artificer to make her form neither too well or too scantily endowed, tall and lithe with silvery skin and reflective pure black eyes that she can change in transparency from pools to mirrors at will. She is able to change the refractive properties of her "hair" so it can appear any color she desires within the range of reds-to-browns, and customarily sets it to a deep copper hue.
Name: Gilda Gearspindle Race: Custom Lineage (with Gnomish heritage) Class: 1st-level Rogue Brief Backstory: Gilda Gearspindle was discovered as an abandoned child on the streets of Hupperdook, the industrial heart of the Dwendalian Empire. Her origins are shrouded in mystery, known only to herself and the enigmatic mentor who took her under his wing. This mentor, a rogue-wizard, saw potential in the young Gilda and trained her in the ways of subterfuge and illusion. As she grew, Gilda became proficient in rogue skills, mastering stealth, lock-picking, and deception. Her mentor emphasized the importance of concealing true intentions and navigating the complex power dynamics of their city. In her formative years, Gilda became indebted to Watchmaster Bram Gulchswattle, though the nature of this debt remains a closely guarded secret. Whether it is to clear her slate of debt or fulfill a favor owed to the Watchmaster, Gilda finds herself aiding him in the investigation of a potential spy ring within the city.
Character Description: Gilda stands at the average height for a gnome, her form exuding an air of both curiosity and cunning. Her eyes are her most striking feature, one the color of forest green and the other a deep shade of indigo, reflecting her mixed heritage. These eyes constantly assess her surroundings, akin to clockwork machines analyzing their gears. Her auburn hair, often hidden beneath a practical hood or cap, hints at her dual ancestry, with both gnome and non-gnome influences evident in her features. Dressed in earthy tones that allow her to blend seamlessly with her surroundings, Gilda can adapt her attire to suit any role, from a simple worker in the forges to a shadowy figure in the Lower Tier's labyrinthine alleys. She moves with the grace of a rogue, her steps silent and deliberate, and she has a keen sense of observation, always ready to spot hidden details. While her current abilities as a rogue are honed to perfection, Gilda's innate curiosity and her mentor's guidance have sparked an interest in the arcane arts. Though she is in the early stages of her training, her future as a spellcaster appears promising, adding another layer of intrigue to her enigmatic persona.
Backstory: Laren was exiled from his clan for unceasing thievery and made his way to the surface. He deeply resents his banishment and he dreams of going home and exacting his revenge one day.
He has wandered the kingdom and was treated with suspicion and prejudice in the countryside so he made his way to the city. The entrance tax cost him all the coin he has collected but he gambled that he would be able to steal back that coin and more once he made it in to the city. Sadly he never was able to earn a stake dishonestly and he began to run into arrears on his residency tax.
He has started to realize that earning money closer to the top of the table may be a better way to earn his stake. And he has realized that thievery alone will not achieve his goals so he has considered nurturing his magical talent, but that too costs money.
He has also realized that he can't do it all alone and would like to recruit others to a team but he is sorely lacking in charm so he hasn't achieved yet either but he still plans and hopes to.
He has been a little more successful running dice games in taverns but he was nabbed by the city watch and now he owes the watch Master too. He asked the watchmaster if there is anything he can do to clear his debt and maybe earn a little coin. Anything to start building his stake.
I will likely submit an application regardless, but will there be content sharing? I mostly only have the free content, so it would be helpful to know if I would be able to access more options.
Brief Backstory: As a librarian, Gavyn easily fostered a love of military and a battle tactics. Histories of the winners and losers of past wars and the dry tomes of tactician scholars became his specialty. It was one thing to read about it but another to experience it. That's what Bram told him over a pint one fateful day. It wasn't as if Bram was offering a true wartime experience but it was something more real than the dusty old tomes that Gavyn clung to. Naturally the tortle was reluctant to put his life in danger. The safety of the shelves were what he knew. But the conversation did encourage Gavyn to pick up an axe and shield and try his claws at learning the basics. Nevertheless, Bram's words had lodged in the back of his mind. The battles and strategies he read about took on a new dimension in his mind, as if he were really there witnessing the chaos, smoke, and blood of war.
Bram did not forget the conversation either. Over another pint, months later, he pressed Gavyn to consider his offer again. Even a novice fighter like him would be of use. Gavyn wavered, of course, which was enough for Bram to push the tortle to the tipping point. He offered a wager. One round of dragonchess would decide Gavyn's answer. The result was a foregone conclusion after the third move. Gavyn was about to find out what his knowledge of tactics would really do for him as he joined the Watchmaster's ranks.
Had another idea. A gnome city needs a gnome artificer, doesn't it?
Name: Kidd Herodsson
Race: Forest Gnome (could also be a drow exile from Krynn if that helps the campaign)
Class: Artificer, Artillerist
Backstory: Kidd grew up in Hupperdook, apprenticing to his father's shop until a terrible accident burned it down, consuming his dad in the fire. Watchmaster Gulchswattle found him in the rubble and took him in, telling him the fire wasn't an accident, and that if he became the Watchmaster's apprentice instead, he'd learn what it took to exact his revenge someday. So Kidd's heart turned dark, and his tinkering turned from clockwork toys to clockwork weapons. Is the Watchmaster's story true? Kidd hopes so, and knows that someday, someone's going to pay.
Character description: A wiry, eternally-sooty gnome, Kidd's permanently disheveled hair and ever-present sneer guarantee he's either ignored, pitied or feared. Currently it's the first two, but someday it'll be the third.

Name: Gilda Gearspindle
Race: Custom Lineage (with Gnomish heritage)
Class: 1st-level Rogue
Brief Backstory:
Gilda Gearspindle was discovered as an abandoned child on the streets of Hupperdook, the industrial heart of the Dwendalian Empire.
Character Description:
Gilda stands at the average height for a gnome, her form exuding an air of both curiosity and cunning.
Name: Laren Mindbender
Race: Deep Gnome
Class: Rogue ( will multiclass wizard)
Background: Criminal
https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/109929547
(No, I don't have content sharing)
Thanks for letting me know, I should still submit a character soon.
Name: Gavyn
Race: Tortle
Class: Fighter
