Hello everyone, I am looking to start a play by post campaign on Tal’Dorei. I am looking for 5-7 experienced dnd players who will be able to post at least once per day, more when possible. You will be starting in the city of Emon, when each of you receives a mysterious letter offering an important job and great rewards. What I need from you is a character sheet (level 5, point buy, all official content and crit role content allowed), a short description of background, a reason why you are in Emon, and a plot hook from your backstory. All of this will be fleshed out more before we start. I will be taking applications for a few days, so take your time to make a good application. This campaign will take place on discord, so also include a discord account.
Short backstory description: Eletha was adopted by an upper class family of elves in Syngorn, finding her in a swaddled bundle in the Feywild. Unsure of who left the child here, mixed with the fact the parents yearned for a child that they unfortunately could not produce by themselves, led to their decision to raise Eletha as one of their own, originally naming her Luna after finding her under the light of a moon. As she grew up she discovered she had an inherent talent for magic and a deep connection with the primary moon Catha.
Reason for being in Emon and plot hook: One day her parents tasked her with delivering an item in a sealed container to an important figure in Emon. She was not allowed to open the container or know what was in it, simply deliver it and head straight home immediately. As she travelled though, she found the lands away from Syngorn to feel very peaceful. When she received a mysterious letter offering an important job with great rewards she felt rather excited and decided to see where it goes, figuring it wouldn't hurt if she took a little bit longer to get home, after all what was the worst that could happen if she was a bit late right?
I hope that all sounds good! I'm happy to change some stuff or flesh out some more things if my application is accepted.
Short backstory description: Osluf's first memories consisted of images of fire, smoke and screams! The shadowy shapes moved through his village, causing panic among the settlers. The young elf barely remembered the first rule his parents taught him because of his terror: "The sea is your refuge!" He dived off the bluff into the waters below and waited in the shadowy bay. And waited... no one came for him. The next morning, he returned to find the village in ruins with a few dispirited survivors. He was taken and raised by strangers who cared nothing about him until he ran away to the city, where he barely survived in poverty for years. He eventually met Rutger Meinhoff, a ranger who took pity on the young lad. Rutger took the elf on as an apprentice, teaching his trade.
Reason for being in Emon and plot hook: After his years of apprenticeship, Osluf spent many years as a bounty hunter, relishing the jobs that specifically went after raiders and those who harmed the helpless. He has arrived in Emon by happenstance, drifting about as he currently has no bounties.
Short backstory: Born in the year 530 PD in Molaesmyr, Trill was raised predominantly by his father, his mother spending most of her time as part of the royal guard. When Trill came of age he enlisted in the military, quickly rising to the top of his class. On the day of his graduation, however, the corruption hit the city. It swept through the city, quickly engulfing him and his family. The blight tore at Trill from the inside, but before it could finish him off something stepped in and protected him. Nearly 400 years later, Trill awoke in a forest on the other side of the world from his former home. His mind was foggy and as he stumbled out of the treeline his body was wracked with pain as he fell, coughing, whatever remained of the corruption slowly killing him.
Reason for being in Emon and Story Hook: After wandering for a few months, taking employ from various people to survive as he attempts to piece his story together and search for a treatment for his malady, Trill found himself in the city of Emon. He now searches for someone who could help him before he succumbs to whatever plagues his body, all the while searching for information on his past and trying desperately to make a plan for what he would do next...
Short backstory ( I will totally change it to fit the story)
Morbrukk was raised in a clan by a human father and orc mother. Their marriage was to seal the orc and human clan from fighting and become one giant clan. Morbrukk grew up fighting right out of the womb. He was taught that only the strong survive and that challenging strong monsters and foes is the best way to live life.
Reason of being in Ermon and story hook(Also totally able to change this to fit the story.)
Morbrukks clan was wiped out by a ferocious monster and Morbrukk was one of the only survivors. He then was found by traveling merchants who help him recover and in gratitude he became their bodyguard for a time. He then heard stories of the monster that destroyed his clan in the city of Ermon. He then departed the merchants to see if these stories had any truth to them about the monster.

The great and powerful Redbeard is known as "The Traitor" for many reasons. How Redbeard got this name is nuanced, undeserved. After all, Redbeard simply took on the pirates name when the former pirate wanted to retire, as the Redbeard before him did as well. Rain Dustoven, was sent on a pilgrimage when he was young, only to have his vessel captured by slavers. In a perilous moment of truth a mysterious cloaked figure offers a “sponsorship” to Rain in exchange for his life. Seeing no other choice Rain accepts, and is filled with power that he had never before known. Acting quickly, Rain proved himself to the slavers, and they recruited him. Eventually Redhbeard himself started to mentor him. In his heart of hearts, Rain just wanted to be free again. Years past, and that dream was forgotten as Redbeard the former retired and left the mantel to be taken. Not long after Rain (now renamed Redbeard) claimed his title. One night, a deadly storm struck annd the ship was sunk. Redbeard awakes and finds that he is on a strange Island that he is unfamiliar with. Not far off, he sees a city. Redbeard starts walking towards the city, and perhaps a chance at using his old name Rain, and having a fresh start. As Rain walks, he notices the cloaked figure that saved his life is walking with him. Rain hears a harsh voice in his head that says, “Lick your wounds little Redbeard, but don’t forget who made you. You’ll be hearing from me soon. For now I procured this letter of instructions for you to keep yourself occupied.” With that the cloaked figure vanishes. Rain walks on, a mixture of hope and fear wrestling for control in his heart.
Background/Reason for coming to Emon: Faith Yenstone grew up in the village of Palebank, in the far north of Wildemount. Faith displayed a natural talent for performance as a youth, and, being the daughter of a psionic sorceress and a bard, was encouraged to develop both her psi-skills and her love of entertaining a crowd. As her reputation grew, she eventually ventured south to Rexxentrum, solidifying her identity as a local celebrity. With the rare gift of conjuring psionic weapons, she traveled far and wide across Wildemount, performing fantastic revolver/gun tricks for all of the continent's major cities (I've re-flavored soulknife "psychic blades" to "psychic guns" with same stats--it's just for show).
On invitation, Faith has traveled to Emon to perform in various venues. As an accomplished sharpshooter, musician, and general entertainer, Faith's paid performance venues range from upscale taverns to private upper-class events. Remembering her roots, however, the half-elf spends a lot of her free time in the lower/working-class areas of the city, giving impromptu shows for local children and redistributing a little wealth. Though she's not a pickpocket or a straightforward thief, Faith has no issue manipulating or "charisma-ing" the wealth out of the rich to try to redistribute it to the poor.
Plot hook idea? Well, I think that Faith, being born into a poor backwater area, is a bit of a bleeding heart for any sort of story regarding the mistreatment of the weak by the powerful. Any quest or request to "right wrongs" that involve helping the "helpless" will prompt Faith to act immediately.

Honorary Leader in the Pixie Peewee Powderpuff Pals!
Clovis for a time grew up in Emon before being sent off to the continent of wildmount and the lands of xorhass where his family lived, himself on a pilgrimage to vasulhime (probably not spelt right) for his god and own personal reasons decided to stop off in Emon to relax oh his childhood and upbringing. Hoping to help out some of the poor members of the city and willingness to help out for coin for the right people and reasons. Plot hook bit
being a reborn human (as in the linages) Clovis doesn’t know what his life was before hand but understands he had a long life judging by his symbol of bahumat the platinum dragon he has, something to do with his past or with his god would spur him along but not knowing his previous life it could be anything that’s fits into the group.
Damn. Ticks all the boxes except I just can't gel with Discord. If your ever thinking of running the same game on the forums I'll be there in an instant. Happy Gaming!
Saregul is a changeling who was orphaned at a young age. His parents lived in a small town with humans and other species, but the locals were always suspicious of his changeling nature and did not want to look after him. So he ended up being given to a monastery in the nearby mountains and never found out what happened to his parents. At the monastery initially he served the monks but after some years was accepted as an initiate and eventually became a monk himself. Saregul is quite happy in the mountains and has few ambitions. He is happy enough with the simple monk's life. However, the order he has joined has higher goals, of recording history and in some cases trying to steer it. Why, or to what end, is knowledge well beyond the levels that Saregul is initiated into, and only the Abbott and other senior monks know these things.
Despite his enjoyment of the humble and quiet monastic life, Saregul has proved a useful agent and sometimes ends up getting send out on missions. He is becoming quite skilled is his martial arts, and combined with his unusual changeling heritage this makes him a useful asset for the monks order. Often disguised as a humble street sweeper or servant, he has been able to travel unimpeded and blend easily into different environments to gather information as instructed.
(Assuming DM approves:) Saregul's Monk Weapon is his broom - the same one he uses for sweeping the temple or the streets. (for game purposes, a standard quarterstaff)
Reason for being in Emon and plot hook:
A few weeks ago, the Abbott himself - whom Saregul had barely ever spoken to, but who is known to have dealing with many other organisations and even some powerful lords - called Saregul into his study and assigned him personally to an important mission. The Abbott received a letter regarding and important mission, and is sending Saregul as his agent. He is to enter the city of Emon and there to join a diverse group of people who are gathering. He is to accompany them and assist them with their goals to the best of his ability. The Abbott was very specific that Saregul need not know the bigger picture or mission at this time, but instructed him to be ready to receive further instructions, and only to accept instructions signed by the Abbott himself. Saregul therefore is bound by his order's instructions to go on this unusual and cryptic mission.
(I'll leave it to DM to decide what the Abbott/Order is up to, if he is even going to tell Saregul about the reward, etc. Saregul is not here for the money or reward, he sees this as another chore/assignment to serve the Order which has looked after him his whole life)
Backstory: Zanowar's early childhood was relatively normal, he grew up in the farmlands outside of Emon, where he enjoyed the simple life of fishing and farming. He never had any drive for adventure or anything else. That all changed when we was on the verge of being a teenager, when we discovered an ancient book covered in mysterious runes, upon opening the book his mind was flooded with eldritch horrors, he was trapped for what felt like an eternity, until he was offered an escape by an unknown fiend, in exchange for being gifted destructive power.
Reason for being in Emon/plot hook.
Zanowar was changed after he found the book, he spent a few years unable to control his power, and was sent away from home. Now he has returned to Emon in hopes of tracking down someone that can help him track down his still unkown fiend savour and curse in hopes of one day confronting him.
Short Backstory Description: Miranda was once part of a mercenary company that had been working out of Port Damali in Wildemount, however she left the company a couple hours after they were approached by a mysterious couple. Before completely leaving though she did try to convince the companies leader to reconsider the decision to join them to this city that she'd never even heard of, but upon hearing that he had already made up his mind she wished him luck and they parted ways on a rather disappointing note in her book. For a few years she traveled Wildemount looking for her next big adventure but nothing really felt the same and after another year and a half she found her way back to Port Damali, preparing for the next step in her adventure.
Reason for being in Emon and plot hook: Miranda was getting tired of traveling in Wildemount so she thought getting away for a while might be good for her. Although upon arriving in the city of Emon she can't help but feel a little out of place there on her own. When she receives the mysterious letter her sense of adventure is peaked a hundred percent and she decides to check it out, not because of the rewards but because she wants to know what this important job really is. Sure it might not be information about her old friends but she's sure that if they were there with her they'd take the job, and any way if anyone here knows anything about them they'd probably have mentioned it way before now... right?
Player background: I'm a fairly experienced player and absolutely loved CR1 (not so much love for the later seasons, I'm sorry Mercer & Co). Would love to play in the world of Emon! Open to playing other classes/characters if so demanded by party composition. I'm quite familiar with the necessaries of playing PBP via Discord, though it has been a while so it might take me a hot minute to get back up to speed. My discord tag is Ephemeral#0001.
Backstory: Liara is a genetically a wood elf, but what does that mean for one that grew up in a city? She's meant to be fleet of foot, but what for? Life is simple and easy, and she never had to learn to grow out of her natural clumsiness. It is so bad that sometimes, she thinks this is due to some fey curse that her parents never told her about. Her mother says it's because she always has her nose stuck in a book. The truth? Well, she only reads on days ending in Y, and most nights..., and so what if she forgets to trance sometimes. She can see the words perfectly fine! And reading at night is great, with no one to nag at her, and she can keep watch over everyone in the city from her bedroom window, and oh look -- aren't the stars pretty? No stars in the daytime, that's for sure.
Reason for being in Emon, plot hook: Liara could hardly avoid the tales of Vox Machina as she grew up in the streets of Syngorn. Epic battles in mad, fantastical places, places she had never seen before. She might know every street in her city like the back of her hand, but clearly, there was so much more to explore. So she set out, and promised her mother that she would write, and let her feet take her where they may. Finding joy and companionship on the road came easy, and where there wasn't any to be found, Selune kept her company in the soothing night. Her feet eventually took her to Emon, where her reputation apparently preceded her for some reason, and she found a thick envelope in her hand. An important job? (Translation: the start of her epic journey???) Great rewards? All the better! (With only 10 gold to her name, this bit was shamefully important.) Where does she sign up?
Born in an alleyway under the red glow of Ruidus Ren'Dala was off to a dismal start in life. Her drow mother's chagrin at Ren'Dala's insistence to be born that night never mellowed. Eventually, her mother, Meren'Issa, split their family apart, taking Ren's older brother, Vraximbar, with her so by the age of four Ren was living alone with her elven father, Tavraxal.
Her father was a travelling merchant and with no one at home to care for Ren, she found herself travelling with him. He would spend several months at a time in a town, maybe longer in a city, brokering wares or making trade agreements. These would be couriered back to his business partners to facilitate. It meant that Ren found herself being schooled in many places or missing out entirely for periods of her youth. What she lacked in structured learning or knowledge, was made up for in social interactions and adaptability.
When she was in her early teens, she made a group of friends in Rosohna. One was a drow male called Vraxgyr, and his similarly to her estranged brother set Ren aback, with an easy ice-breaker, Ren and Vrax became friends. She learned of Dunamancy from him, and the Dynasty's Echo Knight troops. Of an age where she could care for herself, Tavraxal would often leave Ren at home whilst he now ventured across Xorhas. She spent long hours in Vraxgyr's company and gradually fell in love with him.
Though Ren tried hard, every so often her origins and the superstitions around them would surface, as some of her father's trade rivals would see a chance to cast aspersions on the family. One such rival was a young trader that happened to frequent some of the same circles as Ren and Vrax, and realising the potential, rumours started to spread. Vrax was hurt that she had kept it from him, and she was adamant it wasn't really his business.
They parted from that argument on bad terms and Vrax was called up to aid in the ongoing Dwendalian conflict days later before the pair had even spoken. Ren discovered his departure after the fact and was stricken at the loss. She set about finding where he had been deployed, and set upon a plan to find him.
She signed on as a caravan guard, though weak she was fast and had some competence with lighter swords and staves from Vrax's casual tutelage. On their travels, the caravan was attacked multiple times, and Ren eventually found a growing confidence in her ability to fight. When they found their way to Bazzoxan, the suspertition struck again and she was dismissed from her duty as the caravan believed her to the cause of the attacks.
She sought work or funds to travel on and met a man who offered her his aid to 'deal with her dilemma'. Suspicious at first, he revealed he knew much of her situation and explained he too was born under the ill favoured moon of Ruidus. He spoke of how he was granted a power that trivialised people's concern about his birth, and how people's uncertainty and superstition had been decisively quelled. Lulled in by his words, Ren'Dala asked how he acquired this gift, and what she had to do. She pledged her service to <<@DM - happy to work with you on an appropriate patron for the 'Undying' here>> that very night as he spun a tale of power across the seas and the promise of a life where she was not feared for her birth...
Her transformation into the dread form shook her as much as it invigorated her. Understanding that she now had a power inside of her beyond what she had believed, she also understood what the words used to entice her had really meant - people would fear her for what she had become, not what she was. Coming to terms with her new powers, she travels onward following her patron's guidance, in the hopes that one day she will find her Vraxgyr and show him all the has become.
Appearance:
Reason for being in Emon: Ren'Dala's search has led her across Wildemount and Tal'Dorei to the coast furthest from her home. Following the breadcrumbs that her patron lays out, one clue at a time, she has landed in Emon and she wonders what could be of such interest here in this far off land.
A member of the Air Ashari, Wing is in constant motion never staying in one place for too long. His role as a roving Druid is to keep watch for new dangers and portals that could threaten the balance and he reports back regularly to the Ashari leadership.
Wing is well suited to his role, he has always been curious and tends to believe the best in people. He loves nothing better than seeing new places and cultures. A natural telepath he is surprisingly open to everyone he meets, however he has a tendency to always tell the truth which can land him in trouble. He is just as happy to talk to people in their mind as he is to use his voice, which can cause some surprises. This is especially true when he is in animal shape, which he often is.
A skilled healer he will often visit the poorer sections of any town and offer his services for free. Which can often win him new friends, despite his strangeness, and its a good way to hear news.
He can often be underestimated given his small stature, which he doesn't mind. More than one bully has picked up a 3ft Halfling only to find themselves holding a 9ft bear.
He has come for Emon because he has heard troubling rumours that may affect the balance and wants to investigate them.
Only daughter od Thindulas Fei'lia and Ardenthal Fei'lia and heir of House Fei'lia a noble house of Syngorn. Her father was appointed as an embassador in Emon but in one of the travels between the two capitals their convoy was attacked by demons. The guards were slaughtered, her parents tried to protect her and help the guards, but to no avail. With only seven years she took her mother's sword and tried to fight the monster that had kiled them. Fortunately for her, a blood hunter was behind the demon and was able to reach the convoy just when the creature had finished laughing at the little girl and was about to kill her. Duncan Malory, was impressed by the courage of the child. She begged him to teach her how to kill those creatures. He took her in and trained her.
Meanwhile his uncle, Femrud Fei'lia took the leadership of the House and he was not specillay happy when, thirty years later, she reappeared in Syngorn. She hasn't reclaimed the House leadershop yet, but the situation is tense.
She has come to Emon because she had recieved a message from her former mentor and friend, Duncan, asking her to join him at the Laughing Lamia inn. The note didn't tell her many details but that's Duncan style after all.
Character: Asher Goldheart is a a ranger (drakewarden) strongly dedicated to healing and herbalism... Character Sheet
Short backstory description: Asher is the last one of a family of four kids and has always been one with the Nature. Since a young age, she used to run in the Torian Forest for hours - to the despair of her parents whom were scared of owlbears and packs of wolves. But with the years, her love for the nature didn't fade and she befriended the shaman of the village, who taught her everything about the properties of the plants. Woodland beasts did not scared her and she ended to know quite well their behaviour , fighting them became easier with time. A few years ago, while looking for fresh herbs, she encountered a wounded Amethyst Dragon Wyrmling and managed to stabilise and heal her. The dragon, thankful for her benefactor, gave Asher a marvellous small purple crystal and promised her a bright future.
Reason for being in Emon and plot hook: She placed the crystal inside a small pendant that never leave her neck but always wondered what the dragon meant and decided to join the Alabaster Lyceum in Emon to learn about the majestic Dragon species and magical healing. Years have past now and because of her skills in nature and medicinal plants, Asher is now working for the school as the assistant of the herborist - Miss (insert name). But Nature is still calling her and she longs for amazing adventures out of the city of Emon.

Walks in [insert absurd situation].
Honorary Leader in the Pixie Peewee Powderpuff Pals!
Character Clovis burnsteal
background/Reason of being in Emon

Character: Saregul, Monk 5
https://ddb.ac/characters/96745384/9dhfw3
Short backstory description:

Shadar Kai Warlock

Character: Miranda {A human fighter}
Character Sheet: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/98574726
Sure it might not be information about her old friends but she's sure that if they were there with her they'd take the job, and any way if anyone here knows anything about them they'd probably have mentioned it way before now... right?

Liara, Cleric of Selune (Twilight Domain)
Name: Ren'Dala (DDB Sheet)
Backstory:
Appearance:
Reason for being in Emon:
Ren'Dala's search has led her across Wildemount and Tal'Dorei to the coast furthest from her home. Following the breadcrumbs that her patron lays out, one clue at a time, she has landed in Emon and she wonders what could be of such interest here in this far off land.

Wing: Ghostwise Halfling Moon Circle Druid
